How can I find a good voice teacher?

Use Thumbtack to find a good, top-rated voice teacher near you. With Thumbtack, you can view the teachers’ profiles, read their client testimonials and check their ratings. To ensure you hire the best instructor, ask them questions about their credentials and success with other students. What is a good age to start vocal lessons?

Whether you’re a novice or experienced singer, it’s never too late to start taking vocal lessons.

If you’re thinking about signing up your child for voice lessons, keep in mind that some instructors recommend waiting until their voice settles after puberty. Talk to voice coaches near you to find out if now's the time for you (or your child) to start taking lessons.

What are singing lessons like?

Every voice coach may have a different style of teaching, but here are a few things you'll likely experience during a singing lesson:

  • Explaining to the instructor what you want to improve on.
  • Going through a few breathing and riff exercises.
  • Receiving constructive feedback and criticism from the instructor.

Before your first voice lesson, you can ask your instructor what you should expect and how to prepare.

Working with Mr. Williams has been exciting. My first voice lesson went very well and I learned a lot about my voice. Mr. Williams worked with me and didn’t make me feel embarrassed when I couldn’t get something right. I look forward to many more lessons and seeing all the improvements in my voice. I would definitely recommend Dreamer Records Inspirational Gospel Studio.

Our daughter had her first voice lesson today. She started by asking questions and observing our daughter’s habits and instructed her on proper mechanics. Anna has a way about her that helps to encourage and empower her students.

I have decided that my guitar and singing lessons would be more effective for me as in studio lessons. I will be signing up for a series of in studio voice and guitar lessons here in San Antonio. I appreciate you working with me. From my standpoint Skype just has too many draw backs. These include the inability to have both people speak at the same time, difficulty effectively seeing and correcting hand positions on the guitar, numerous signal freezes, poor audio quality and small viewing screens.
