We were so lucky to find Doug Carter to be our wedding photographer! We looked for a while and most photographers charge so much for their packages. But then we came across Doug and we are so grateful! His fees are very reasonable and he is definitely very experienced. Doug arrived early to our venue, he stayed for the entire ceremony/party (no extra fees for staying over 6 hours), he was very friendly and easy to work with. A couple of weeks after the wedding we received 2 CDs with about 700 pictures. He captured every single detail! We did not have a videographer, and to be honest we did not need it. We can play a slide show of all the pictures and it's like having a movie! The pictures are great, it will be really difficult to choose the ones we want to print. So many details and emotions were captured through out. Thank you Doug!!!

David and his crew were awesome and very professional at my daughter's wedding at the Hofmann Ranch in Castroville. The set up was perfect, he set up the booth in a great location at the venue. Everyone at the wedding enjoyed taking photos and there were a bunch of props to use. The kids absolutely loved taking photos in the booth. Everyone was excited to get the awesome prints right away and alot of people loved that there was an opportunity to buy an enlargement of the photo of their choice on the spot. There is nothing that David could of done better, only thing I regret is that I didn't take all the photos I wanted to because I was always getting pulled away by guests. I highly recommend photo video services to anyone who is looking for a great photo booth and a great crew.

I can't say enough good things about our experience working with DeeDee. Not only did she take wonderful photos of our surprise wedding, she was just a pleasure to work with throughout the process. She met us shortly after being booked on Thumbtack so we could talk about our event in person, and then communicated regularly with us from there on out. Every single aspect of the process was handled professionally, from the contract to the invoicing, to making sure she had the schedule of events ahead of time. She (and her helper) were on time, fun to work with, and made a point of confirming we had all the photo shots we wanted before wrapping things up. She sent us the watermarked photos to review within the agreed upon timeframe, and even went out of her way to put together a slideshow for us. We're just so happy with how they turned out just had a great overall experience. It was so important to us to have our special day captured by a professional photographer. So very glad we found DeeDee on Thumbtack!!

My husband and I were recently married and we booked Jodi Daniel Photography for our engagement session and our wedding day. From start to finish, she was extremely professional and so much fun to work with! She is open to suggestions and I loved that she challenged herself when my husband and I asked for something unique and different. Her enthusiasm and playful attitude put us at ease and we were incredibly pleased with our beautiful photos. She has a great eye for detail and was able to capture the best moments of our wedding day. I highly recommend Jodi Daniel Photography for anyone in search of a wedding photographer.

My daughter's wedding is looming on the horizon and one of my biggest fears was the father/daughter dance. Jenna from Fancy Feet Ballroom answered my request quickly and professionally. Jenna was very informative about wedding (and dance) etiquette. She taught me several dance steps that I will possibly experience at the wedding. She has given me the confidence to dance with my daughter and my wife (who I have only danced with a couple of times over the course of our marriage). I highly recommend Jenna and Fancy Feet Ballroom.

Reno did an amazing job accommodating with our engagement/ pre-wedding photo shoot! He is very professional and kept in contact with me throughout the process. The day we had our shoot the weather in San Antonio was not great but we made it work by changing locations and it actually worked out better for us. My fiancé and I are eagerly waiting for our photos which I'm sure are going to be great! Thanks Reno for a great experience. I would recommend Reno if you are looking for any of your photography needs.

I’ve worked with Danielle on a couple of occasions. She did some professional shots for my husband and me, and my daughter's wedding in Mexico. She is the consummate professional! She took SO many photos, which is fantastic because you have lots of options. She is easy to work with and isn’t disruptive to the event like some photographers are. She has an eye for capturing fun, unique, and special moments.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
