50 sq ft of tilt over 2 layers of linoleum. Eddie bought the tile, removed the 2 layers, installed new tile. He was prompt, professional, showed up when he said, got paid before the grout was applied. He returned the next morning, grouted and the job looks great.

Maury and Melissa were wonderful. They replaced a 72" sliding glass door for us and the install went very smoothly. They are awesome folks and would definitely recommend them for a project. Great job, and we love the new door!

The quote was very good and was what I ended up paying. If I had wanted something fancier, it would have cost more. I settled for a simple 2-post roof/cover over my small patio. The first rain resulted int leaks from the roof on one end and at the center where the ceiling fan hung. Mr. Gay came out and identified the problem and fixed it. After several rains, still no leaks. I was concerned about some vertical cracks on the posts. Mr Gay came out and examined them; he explained that was normal and would not cause any problems; but he said if any problems developed, to call him back. I did not have to call him back. All and all, very satisfied with the work -- took 3 days over a 5 day period. Mr Gay was reasonable and for the most part efficient. I bought an outdoor ceiling fan specifically for flushing with the ceiling. Unfortunately, he was unable to get the fan to hang flush with the ceiling; that was my only disappointment. I will have to hire someone who is an expert in hanging ceiling fans to hang it the way I want it to hang. I would recommend AOS to anyone needing a simple roof installed over their patio.

Door installations, repair: If anyone has any sort of needs regarding doors, Cory is the guy to contact. His knowledge and great professional experience covers doors, windows, and general construction. We contacted Cory to replace two very old exterior doors – he did a beautiful job with both of the new doors. He also remediated a door that had been poorly installed by another company -- Cory fixed everything that was wrong with the door. When we’re ready to replace our front door, Cory will be the one we call. He is very professional, well organized, and wonderful to work with.

Joe, Steve and Chris were nice, professional, and hard-working. They helped us with a variety of home projects including installing overhead garage shelving, light installation, electrical wiring, mounting a television and accessories on the wall, and repairing a crack on wall next to the stone fireplace. We would recommend them and hire them again.

Jason Yanes was fantastic! I live out of town and used Jason for several projects on my house that was for sale. He listened to each of the needs and gave a very reasonable price estimate. He kept me informed along the way about the progress they were making and always asked permission before troubleshooting a problem if there would be an additional expense. His team was flexible and friendly. My realtor also enjoyed working with him and plans to use him in the future. It was clear that he can accomplish just about any project you would need. When it was finished he sent me pictures of all the work completed just like I asked. I highly recommend Jason Yanes Framing and Construction. This is a company you can trust.

The windows installation went smoothly and upon completion and inspection, all windows worked perfectly. The premises were left in perfect order with all debris removed and swept up inside and out. I had obtained 4 bids which were quite variable but Cool solutions provided quality windows as the best bidder and which was followed up by personal and extra attention by owner Dennis Harris. In fact, they cleaned up my garage and painted the garage floor at no cost even though offered!! Hard to believe in these days of hit and run vendors. I have reviewed other remodeling jobs by Cool Solutions (Kitchens cabinets etc) and plan more work with this company! Nicholas D. Ricco 214 293 3606

Eric did a great job on our under/over counter LED light and switch installation. He was on time, very cordial, professional and very detailed. He took the time to answer all of our questions and even provided small supplies out of his own inventory. I would definitely recommend him for anyone desiring electrical work with the above characteristics and work ethic. We will be hiring him again for future electrical projects. David & Christina

New to the state and bought a home that needed updating and repairs. Started out with popcorn removal. NTW came right out to the house and gave me an estimate at a great competitive bid, started within 2 days and finished on time. Either Mike, John or Jimmy were at the house every day checking on quality and progress and answered many many questions. I'm so glad I found them because I have them doing everything on the inspection report now - from roofing, plumbing and electrical to door replacement and painting.

My husband and I just recently bought another rental property and needed several repairs on the duplex. We found that we were going to need 4 different people, at 4 different times to make-ready. Fortunately, we found Mitch and he was able to repair everything himself. He worked on some electrical issues, on both bathrooms and repaired both bath tubs. He repaired the baseboards in the kitchen and installed a new dishwasher. He did some work on the roof and backyard as well. Overall, he did an amazing job with everything, and best, we got all our repairs taken care of at one time, instead of 4 different people at 4 different times. I would highly recommend using Mitch for your home repairs. He's professional, accommodating and does an amazimg job!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
