Mike was great! We had him come out to install a kitchen sink faucet. It was a tight space as we have a very deep sink and a reverse osmosis system under there. He got the job done quickly and with great results! While he was here I also had him install an outdoor patio fan. It was a very large and heavy fan but he was able to take care of it. Fan looks great and runs perfectly. His prices were great and his communication was super responsive. We will definitely be using him again when we have some cabinet hardware to install and other projects!

Carl's Repair Service was outstanding! He arrived on time (twice), did what he said he would do and charged a fair price. I asked him to disconnect sink plumbing prior to countertop replacement, then install a new faucet and garbage disposal. He demonstrated practical advice AND integrity--an unbeatable combination. I'll definitely use again!

Kevin came to our office to help verify that we could install a portable dishwasher in our kitchen. He was very friendly and not only gave us the go ahead to install, but also gave us tips for installation in case we decide to do it ourselves. I'd recommend Kevin!

Installed 3 fans and swapped out two chandeliers for us. Was nice enough to also install some decor above fans and fan remote control. Right on time, probably a first from any contractor we have worked with on Thumbtack!

Mr. Carranza & wife did an excellent job - going beyond what was expected. They had to put ply wood in the ceiling to install the fan. The repair of the ceiling drywall in the other bedroom was perfect.

Okay so the job I asked for was admittedly simplified, but when Bill and Tony showed up they immediately sized up the job and began work immediately. They removed the existing cabinets and placed them in my garage for later use. Then they installed the new light fixtures, patched and painted the wall and installed the new cabinets. I was impressed at this point, but when the Master Electrician came to inspect the electrical work, I was amazed! My wife is so happy with the work that I have been given permission to hire Fixed again to install the old cabinets in my garage! Stay tuned, guys! And great touch with the door mat and shoe covers! That was the icing on the cake for my wife! Thank again!

Frank saved Thanksgiving! My new range was delivered at 2 the Sunday before Thanksgiving. I had originally planned on hooking it up myself but chickened out at the last minute...screwing it up would put my family’s life in danger. Nope! I posted on Thumbtack and Frankie’s Appliance Repair was the first to reply...within minutes! He doesn’t usually work on Sundays but I thank my lucky stars he was today! Good luck getting anything appliance-related done Thanksgiving week, you know. Frank was at my house and my appliance was installed and ready to cook by 4pm. Thank you, thank you. Frank was able to troubleshoot my funky gas line location and performed some serious contortion skills. He’s a nice guy too.

Bob coordinated our install for Refrigerator, Washer and Dryer. Damon was excellent and he made sure everything is properly installed. Also cleaned up the mess and tested the appliances. I did have a delay in W/D delivery. Bob was happy to send back Damon the next day to install the remaining appliances. Very happy with Top Notch!

We hired Felipe to help us remodel our bathroom. We wanted to remove the tub unit and install a standing shower. We hired Felipe based on his sheer honesty about the cost of the project as well as his ability to begin the project as soon as possible. He charged us only for the labor of removing the tub unit (and hauling the pieces away), and the installation of the new shower, including the tiling. All of the expenses came out of our pocket, so we purchased the tile and door on our own time. Any of the other materials needed (concrete, siding, grout, etc) Felipe purchased and billed us for later. He showed us every single receipt for anything he bought at the time of reimbursement. It was all at retail prices (he bought everything from Home Depot). He also picked up the door from Home Depot for us, as it was unable to fit in our car, at no extra cost. At the end of each day he told me exactly what he and his son (the only people working the job) did and exactly what his plans were for the next day. If there was going to be a delay of any kind, he let us know right away and made it known that it was not going to change the price that we agreed upon at the beginning of the project at all. If you are having any bathroom work done in your home, I HIGHLY recommend this man. We are extremely satisfied with the completed project and the entire process. We will definitely be hiring Felipe in the future should we want to remodel our second bathroom.

I had a very good experience working with Tom. He is very detail oriented and do the things in a right way. He helped me with a couple of things in my house and all are working great and no complaints 1. I got the sprinkler system leak repaired. Tom even fixed the Sprinkler wire connection and it was not a easy task to start with. 2. Helped Cut the unwanted tree in my backyard. 3. Replaced disc brakes for my honda civic 4. Fixed my drill (Tom didn't charge anything) 5. talks are in progress with Tom to install recess lighting in my living area. I'd definitely recommend getting things fixed by Tom.

Ben offered me options on fixing the unit and answered every one of my questions so I could make an informed determination on which route to take. I had my cabinets repainted and a repair to my ceiling. I also added on a custom shelf and some other repairs and items. Joe and his team did an awesome job including custom mixing my ceiling paint and were always willing to take on the next project I added to the list. They were always prompt and courteous. I plan on using them for more projects in the future and definitely would recommend them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
