Mike did an unbelievable job. He was very timely, was very honest with his pricing and was very professional. His main focus was ensuring quality work and did his due diligence to make sure each job was completed the right way. We had Mike mount a 65" tv using a huge mount. He was able to do so even though he found out the building had metal studs rather than wood studs (making it a tougher job). He also put up Elfa shelving behind my washer dryer and hung all of my artwork. I would recommend to anyone looking for a handyman

Angel was awesome! I had an accident where I left my car in drive while pulling out the trash on a Friday morning. My car hit my house making the door to walk from my garage to my house unusable. I needed it fixed ASAP. He was there Friday afternoon to see what materials he needed and started work Saturday morning. He completed the project that weekend and we are good as new!!! Seriously it’s like it never happened. He did amazing work and can tell he really cares about what he does. He will be our go to guy moving forward!!

He gave me very reasonable quote out of 10 other quotes i received. He really came through fine and kept informing me and always returned on time when he said he would come back to finish the job due to bad weather. Though i hired him for my fence my neighbors also saw how well he power washed my fence (2 yr old never stained fence he washed so clean it looked new) they met him and got quotes and hired him as well. More than 7 other home owners in our community already hired him for the fence painting job after they saw the work he did at place. Over all very happy and going to hire him for more indoor house work (sheet rock and carpentry) as he seem to do more than paint.

Ezequiel was quick to respond, easy to work with, and did a great job! I hired him to install a set of doors, which looked wonderful when he finished. I also ended up asking if he could build a staircase up to the new doors. He did a great job on those too. He arrived when he said he would and completed both jobs quickly and efficiently. He has very fair pricing as well. If I need any more work done in the future, I will definitely call him first.

I recently had Manuel complete a project in my master bedroom. He framed out a new closet, installed new doors, hung sheetrock and repaired all walls throughout the room. Manuel was very responsive and easy to work with and I now have a much better space for my bedroom. I look forward to working with him again!

I needed someone to paint the exterior of our 1940 house. I wanted a contractor willing to remove as much of the old, peeling paint as possible, and the big painting outfits are just not interested in doing this amount of prep work. I got five bids, and Fina Ross of ROSS Painting Contracting stood out to me from the start. As we walked around my house the first time, I noticed immediately her extreme attention to detail. She expressed concern about the various ways our house wasn't sealed against water and educated me on how she suggested correcting this prior to painting. Although I was also very interested in one other contractor, I chose Fina because she said she "really wants to give people what they want." I believed her, and she delivered on this promise. Fina worked hard to organize crews to powerwash, scrape, and sand the original wood siding. She made sure her guys filled every nook and cranny before painting. I also had Fina replace the trim around the windows. When the old trim was removed, Fina discovered that there was no insulation around any of the windows. She paused in the work to purchase what she needed to insulate the windows before replacing the trim. Once Fina addressed this unexpected need, it made a huge difference in reducing the street noise coming into our house. Throughout the project, we ran into unexpected bumps, and Fina did an excellent job of proposing the most cost-effective solutions that would also retain or add value to our home. I will not hesitate to hire Fina again for other home projects.

Erwin & crew did a fantastic job collapsing and filling in our swimming pool and building a new fence for our backyard. Erwin kept us well informed of every detail during each step of the project and made sure the job was completed to our satisfaction. I would definitely recommend TUR and look forward to working with them again on future projects!

Wow.....Where have you been all these years JJ? I want to let anyone who is looking to get a professional, ontime and fair priced job completed, you need to call this guy. JJ came out to look at a deck leveling project for me after I had several other companies look at the project. JJ explained in detail of what they needed to do, approimate time it would take to complete the job and what building materials were needed. Then he gave a fair estimate to complete the job. I have to tell you that this was completed ahead of schedule. Five stars for JJ. Then I needed a section of my deck roof repaired. JJ to the rescue! Once again, he did a fantastic job. He eve proviudes pictures of the areas (under the deck and on top of the roof) needing repaired. JJ has it going on. He will be my go to guy for all things that he is capable of doing. That is one more thing, if JJ isn't schooled on a specific job, he will tell you that and pass on the job rather than try to do something that he is not capable of doing. Best, John H.

This guy knows his work! I just love my patio and deck! He was the most affortable and the best, I must say! He is now building me a playhouse for my daughter for the backyard and said he could paint it as well! Love it!!!!!!! I highly recommend Affortable Outdoor Structures! He is willing to make anything your heart desires! Oh, and he also fixed my crooked door inside by replacing the whole frame at a fraction of the cost as what Home Depot and others would charge! Wish I would have found this company when we bought our older home!!!!!!!

Bill and his teammate, Cody, built a staircase to lead to our upstairs attic bedroom to replace a spiral staircase that was quiet dysfunctional. Bill was dependable and did a really great job on it as it was a custom job and he had limited space to work with. He has a very pleasant personality...light-hearted and cheerful. We will definitely use him in the future for other projects. We still have to paint it so it's not completely finished.

He definitely surpassed our expectations and everything came out beautiful! I would highly recommend his work.

He was timely and was professional. The piece is structurally sound, build out of quality natural untreated product, which is super important when building a encloser for an Iguana or any critter. He made a wonderful effort to have the piece go with the other wood in the kitchen, cabinets (the encloser sits in what would be the kitchen nook). His pricing for such a specialized piece was great! Custom pieces that one could order from one of the online custom encloser stores start at what he charged me for the entire piece and his is much more substantial and structurally sound (for my Iguana that can get up to 15 pounds that is super important). I also loved the fact that he went through the extra effort to make sure the her encloser is super moisture proof. With exotics that have to have a steamer running in their enclosers twice at day, moisture proofing is a big deal. He also built a additional matching sleeping box for her. The only two issues were the miss judging on if the encloser could be brought into the house in one piece or as two pieces (I thought he was going to bring the encloser in pre-cut pieces and assemble it one site.) Which always tells you to clearly communicate with your wood worker on your options for assembling a specialize piece on site or at the shop. The other small issue was needing to add an additional hole cut in the top (which would have been easier to do while the encloser was on its side), but I will be able to do myself. Over all the encloser is huge (enough living space for my adult Iguana girl), extremely well built, and most of all a beautiful addition to the kitchen nook of our house. I did have to add some natural rug stripes to the ramps and turf to the second shelf for my Iguana girl to have some grip and wouldn't slip due to the extra water proofing, but with an exotics you will always have to do some extra modifications once the main piece is together and you have to see how your critter interacts with it to know what modifications with will be needed to be added after the fact. I will also be adding a custom man made sitting branch due to the size of her encloser and her size & weight, but again these are extra things that an owner will have to make after the fact. I highly recommend Matthew for building your custom encloser for your scaly critter family member.

Chris has done a lot of work on our house and was always very professional and knowledgeable. He has helped us with cosmetic things like placing a trim around our mirrors to make them look nicer, to building a wooden headboard for my son, to fixing kitchen plumbing problems and building us a wonderful outdoor patio area! I will continue to use Mr. Spene whenever we need him.

Hire Kyle of Dechert Construction! He did a great job building a custom fence for us at a very reasonable price. He showed up on time and when he said he would. He worked well into the night to get our project completed on time. We already have him bidding out another job for us. Great experience with him!

I have contracted with Mr. Noquez to build a bathroom vanity. Mr. Noquez was the only one of several potential contractors to ask to come to my house to see the layout and to take measurements before bidding on the project. The other gave a cost estimate, sight unseen. He was extremely responsive to my ideas and rendered them in a sketch with measurements and a cost estimate within hours of leaving my home. I made a deposit to begin the project, the remainder to be paid on completion of the project. Given Mr. Noguez's attentiveness to detail, I expect the project to meet or exceed my expectations. I'll be happy to provide a photo of the finished project when available.

I was looking for a professional carpenter to build a loft in our studio. Rick did a great job. He responded quickly to all my emails & calls. He is friendly, punctual and completely professional. He knows carpentry and it shows. Once I explained what I wanted Rick got it immediately and went to work. He's not the kind of contractor you need to baby sit or the kind whom you tell what you want and then they do their own thing regardless. I can't say enough good things except that I will definitely hire Rick again, he's become our go to guy. Thanks Rick!

Jonathan is skilled at his work and very detail oriented. He takes the time to do things the right way and always approaches projects with a creativity and a professionalism that I appreciate. I highly recommend Jonathan. He has helped us with several projects around the house and we're planning to have him build a screened in porch off the back of our home soon! I always know that if he's tackling the job, it's going to be done well, and I'm getting a fair price for top quality craftsmanship which is super helpful on a tight budget.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
