Jared is quick to respond, efficient, and more than professional. My wife and I bought a new home that has been neglected for a long time so we knew going in we had much to do. Immediately after moving in we found a large ant infestation and had a guy come out to spray. The problem persisted for several months and he continued to just come and spray with no success. Six to eight months later we discovered we had a squirrel problem and I immediately set out to find someone more knowledgeable than the previous exterminator. Long story short we have not heard any more noise from the squirrels in the attic and we have already seen an extreme improvement in the ant problem from the short period of time that he came out. If you're looking for pest control / extermination you've found it. Thanks Jared!

Two days ago, my tenant reported a rodent problem, I had a exterminator come and address the problem. However, the tenant was not happy that the previous exterminator did not check the attic. So, I submitted a new request. Jim and his associate came to do a free evaluation. They checked all the places the rodent can enter and found every thing the previous exterminator did was correct. Jim also checked the attic and shared what kind of rodent droppings they are and how old. Though they drove longtime to come to do the evaluation, he was honest and did not try to sell me anything that I don't need. He earned my trust and I will keep him in mind for future my pest control needs. I strongly recommend him for his honesty and his knowledge/expertise. Thank you and god bless you and your business Jim.

Wade was right on time for the appointment. The temperature changes lately had caused a swarm of wasps to congregate along the eaves and ceiling of my porch outside the front door and on the back patio ceiling fan. Wade proceeded to sweep the eaves of my home with dust. He also sprayed inside the ceiling fan on the patio and pointed out areas of entry into the home for pests that need to be addressed. I have seen minimal wasp activity around the eaves since that treatment. Wade is very polite and professional. I would highly recommend his services.

I was very impressed with his knowledge on everything pests. I am an arachnophobe and found a massive spider, was convinced it was a dangerous spider, his knowledge put me at ease when he pointed out the correct spider that it was. He was patient, and doesn't make you feel like he's only in it for the money. He seems to really care and want to help! My family is going to be using him as well. Very happy.

Garrison P&T (Jeff) was such a blessing to my husband and I. I experienced a horrible situation where I was traveling and attacked by BEDBUGS from a hotel in St. Louis. Unfortunately, I brought them home!!! I found Garrison P&T on Thumbtack and messaged him, he called me back almost immediately. He as able to schedule me for the very next morning and serviced my home using the heat treatment. Jeff was compassionate, and diligent in making sure he handled my bug problem successfully. With Jeff's reassurance, my peace of mind was restored, and I was bug free after the heat treatment. It has been 2 weeks, and still no sign of BEDBUGS. The entire process took 24 hours (I requested more heating time), and he followed-up with the spray. Jeff Garrison was honest, friendly, very professional, timely, he honored the quote I received on Thumbtack, and he called me several times throughout to keep me posted on the entire process. I can't express how much Jeff Garrison and Garrison P&T helped me. I have never needed exterminator work before, but from now on if I do, Jeff Garrison and Garrison P&T will be who I call. You should too! You'll be so happy you did. Loretta, Dallas

I gave Eric 5 stars because 10 is not available. This was a fantastic experience. We were 1000 miles from home when our tenant called Friday night and said there were noises behind the walls. Eric contacted me at 10 pm that same night and was at our rental property Saturday morning. He determined the problem and was on it bright and early Monday morning. He eradicated the rodents and closed up the house. Eric is as professional and friendly as any person I've ever met. Hopefully I won't need his services again, but if I do, I'd not hesitate for one second to call him back . I'd recommend Eric to anyone without hesitation. If you need help with unwelcome pests, you need not look any further. Thank you so much Eric!! Arlene Hammonds

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.
