Greg and the crew were exceptionally polite and extremely hard working. To great pains to ensure that nothing was scratched or scuffed. They were very customer oriented, they even helped throw away our junk and trash. Highly recommended and when we buy our house, will be using them and their packing services for a full service move. Outstandingly wonderful experience.

This is my first time using a moving company and the service was great! Jonathan and the movers were awesome, professional, courteous, and great attitude. Their professionalism really put my nerves at ease. The price was really great, and affordable. I was able to use a"coupon code" to waive the travel fee, for $75 an hour (two hour minimum), $50 deposit, plus $35 insurance, and I ended up paying $135. The movers were done in 2 hours (moved from a 1 bdr to 2 bdr) I cannot express how grateful I am that I found this great company. God bless you guys, keep up the good work, and if I move again it know of someone I will recommend you guys!

Original estimate was $349; final bill nearly $1,000. While a good job was done, I felt a little taken advantage of price-wise. Will consider it a lesson learned to be present for the move and to find a service that will offer a fixed price.

I was looking for a handyman to help me move a 1 BR apt on Jul 28, 2018. Brady responded to my request with his quote. Then, I sent him pics of the furniture to moved, and a week before the move day, we talked over telephone. At that time, given his amazing reviews, he was first choice as a handyman to help me move. As the move day drew closer, for a couple of days, Brady stopped responding. This seemed to be strange as he had been very fast in responding to my text messages beforehand. So, I thought he was no longer interested and started looking for someone else. Then, a day before the move, he responded that he had been out of town. Given his amazing past reviews, as I needed a second handyman to help me move, I hired him as well. On the move day, he arrived on time and moved things cautiously yet efficiently. Regrettably, in our conversation, while he had indicated he had a moving Dolley and moving blankets, on the move day, he did not bring them. All the same, throughout the move, our interactions were pleasant and very friendly. Overall, I appreciated his work ethic and punctuality. Had Brady not have stopped responding to the texts while traveling and brought the moving Dolley and moving blankets, I would have totally given him 5 stars. All the same, moving is always a stressful experience but I was glad to have Brady by my side.

Duran and his team were great. My mover canceled on me for a Texas to California move, 4 days before on New Years Eve. Scrambling, I made a post on Thumbtack (a service I had never used before). Needless to say, there was a lot of anxiety going into this move. Of all the inquiries Duran was the best on price and was the one to oversee ever aspect of my move. He worked with me in a small window on both delivery and drop-off in the metro areas of Austin and Los Angeles. He and his team were extremely professional and were able to assemble and disassemble my furniture without any problems. I would highly recommend using Duran and All Star for any moving service.

Michael and his helper Lucas do full service moves as well as packing and unpacking. They were on time and they cleanly wrapped up the items for free and they delivered it within 2 hours at my location. They were pleasant and cheerful and handled the move very well. I scheduled them at a short notice of 4 hours and very happy with the service. Highly recommended and will use them for further moves too.

I'm so glad that I chose Bellhops for my move. I used the labor option w/o moving truck because I was moving less than 50 ft. from my old apartment to an adjacent unit. The two movers arrived as scheduled and went above & beyond their work duty! One mover helped repair a broken bookshelf that I had planned on throwing away. Alongside the amazing repair, the movers both worked very quickly and efficiently. I cannot praise them enough! Thank you Myles and Eric for making my move so easy!

His crew was polite and courteous and moved the baby grand cautiously. I would highly recommend Betton Moving to anyone looking for piano moving services. Thanks for a great job!

Great Service! They were fast and very nice. Even when there was a change of plans they worked with us and made sure that we were getting the best service. They came with three men, dollies, blankets and saran wrap. All my items were handle well and respectfully they even offered to help put things together and offered to use their tools to help us. It was a (true) flat rate at $285 and they didn't charge us with "hidden fees". So glad we went with them and so glad I didn't hire a hourly service especially once we got to my apartment another moving company was using the freight elevator which added unaccounted time. Thanks Better Deal Movers!

The guys were diligent, hard-working and responsive. They do not get 5 stars because they did drop my washing machine due to wrong placement of their truck ramp. I have not connected it yet so don't know if it will work. Other than that, I am pretty happy with my moving experience with this company. I have not met movers who did not need to be supervised every step of the way, so why should these guys be different? 😀 On the plus side, they accepted my order on a few hours' notice, offered me a good price, kept me posted about their ETA, and did a good job preventing furniture from being scratched.

This was my second time using their service for a home cleaning, and once again they exceeded my expectations. Adrienne and Gil showed up early for the scheduled appointment time and were very friendly as well as very accommodating as to what needed to be done. Not only did they go above and beyond on the cleaning, but they got up stains that a previous provider was not able to get up. Its clear that they take pride in their work and the results show proof of this. I plan to always contact them for their cleaning services. I can't express how grateful I am for their services in such a short turnaround. My home literally sparkled and smelled magnificent!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
