I hired Ruben to hang a 6ft mirror on the wall in my living room. I called him early in the morning and he was at my house shortly thereafter! Very fast same day service. He got my mirror up perfectly in no time, and even mounted another mirror while he was there and put together a piece of office furniture (which I had lost the directions too). In spite of the latter two things not being what he was initially hired to do, he was kind enough to let me add on the other two jobs which helped me out. Ruben gives prompt, professional service and does excellent work! His prices were very reasonable. I look forward to having him work on some other home projects that I have coming up. Highly recommend!

I live in Georgia but my house needed repairs in Texas. I hired M and Y because I had hail damage to my windows and I need to sell my (rental) house ASAP. They ended up painting the exterior of my house (3200 square feet), replacing rotted wood trim, and glazing my windows. It looks great!! Once I hired him online, they began working right away. They pressure washed the first day and let it dry. Within 2 days, the complete job was finished. They finished before I made it to Texas! I would definitely use this company again.

After meeting with several painters we decided to go with Marc Dixon. His work estimate was in line with other painters. It has been a great experience. The work is beautiful! They were here when they said they would be and worked diligently for a professional outcome. I would definately hire him to complete other projects. If you are thinking about getting some quality work done, this is a good place to start. Mr. Dixon supplied me with numbers of other satisfied customers. I called to check his references and determined he was the one to do the job. I asked him to remove popcorn ceiling, retexture and paint. There were 3 different surfaces, wallpaper, a sand texture (from me previously covering wallpaper) and then a typical knock-down--- and I asked that they all match. It is very nice! He matched what was in my living room without having to re-do the entire texture of the room. I am very pleased with the quality of work!

At Bills Floor Service office they provided a wide variety of carpet samples and selections. They were helpful in explaining carpet qualities, answering our questions and allowing us to select the carpet we wanted for our home. They removed and disposed of the old carpet, then installed the new carpet installation in our living room, bedrooms and stairway. With a piece of remaining carpet we made an extra request to install it at the entry to our basement. They were able to do this for us. Upon removing the old kitchen linoleum floor, they noted several dips, low spots in the floor and corrected this prior to installing the new tile floor. The time to complete the installation was accurate. After the installation the area was left clean and neat. We enjoy our carpet and tile floors and love the look it gives our home.

Jessie and her co-worker did a fabulous job painting a single room for us. She was EXTREMELY responsive on the app, answering questions immediately and offered very competitive pricing compared to the competition. I was hesitant because she is new to Thumbtack, but it's obvious that they have plenty of experience, considering the entire room was done in five hours and looks great. They were courteous throughout the day and cleaned up very well. We wouldn't hesitate to hire her again!

Tried to paint my media room by myself. After prepping the room and starting on one wall I was done! So off to Thumbtack. I got several quotes and Villegas was the most competitive. On top of that, they provided the best estimate. Lowes suggested I needed primer, and several of the other painters who quoted agreed. Villegas took a look at the walls, considered the color I was painting it (beige to burgundy - it's my media room), and said they could do 2 coats with no primer for an amazing price. They got the job done in one day. Man I hate painting! Next room we paint I'm calling Villegas!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

      • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
      • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
      • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
      • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
      • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
      • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
