The Movers 123 were great to work with. I had to reschedule about 4 different times (due to changes in the closing date of the house I was moving out of) and they worked with me every time. When the crew showed up (they called ahead to let me know they were on their way), they were fast, friendly, and great to work with. We ended up being short a mover (we were supposed to have 4) but the three guys moved fast and worked hard. There was a problem with getting my treadmill out of the basement - the poor guys struggled for over an hour with it. They ended up taking it apart and removing some doors just to get it out of the house. To make up for being a guy short, another crew came over to help the three original guys unload. They had a system down and were done in a short time. They even put my treadmill back together and put items away on shelves. They were all very friendly and hard working. I have always moved myself (or had the help of family and friends), but it was worth the money to not have to worry about anything. It was also worth it to not have to lift heavy furniture! These guys made it look so easy! Thanks so much!!!

I honestly had no idea what The Other Side Movers were all about. They just had really good reviews and offered a good quote, so I hired them. They arrived on time to help me load all our furniture into a POD. I was so impressed because a few times one of the guys noticed some chips on paint or scratches on furniture and pulled me aside to ask if they had done it or if it was already there. (It was already there) but it made me really feel like I could trust them and that they had my best interest in mind. The POD got filled up without being able to fit some of my furniture and the guys were SO patient and helped me rearrange a bunch of stuff until we could fit everything in. While getting payment squared away, we were all just making small talk and they told me what their school was all about. I was so impressed! To the guys who came and helped me load up my POD: Thank you! You were honest, hardworking (literally ran from place to place) and so helpful. I wish you the best of luck in your bright futures!

I hired Angel's Cleaning Utah to help me do a move out/deep clean service for our house. Angela was really nice and very accommodative with my keep changing needs. She was able to come a day early since our mover was moved up a day early and we ended up having a clean house a day early than we intended. Angela and her team were very thorough and very professional. I would definitely recommend her and her team to anyone who would need a cleaning service.

Anthony Montano and his people are superb. I needed my 12' POD reloaded into a 16'-onsite-with some additional furniture added. The movers who had originally loaded the POD had done an awful job. Anthony assessed and they unloaded and RELOADED my 12' so professionally and perfectly that it is super solid and ready to travel across the country, including my large-canvas art collection!! They rewrapped furniture that had not been done properly, protecting it perfectly. And they were done 30 minutes under the 3 hour window, and they saved me money to keep the 12' POD!! I've used a lot of movers in the SL and UT county areas over the years. I have never been so impressed as I was with the competence, warmth, caring, and attention to all my important details they exhibited in my move today. I will recommend to everyone--they are worth more than their rate.

My wife and I had just purchased our first home, we walked in the door for the first time 12 hours before our movers were to arrive. We walked in to a gross dirty house with thousands of dead bugs all over the place. With little hope we could get a cleaner out at 7 o'clock on a Friday night I placed a hopeful request on Thumbtack. After being told "no way" by multiple pro's, Fatima came in clutch! Even apologizing that she didn't write me back sooner (I think 5 minutes is a good response time). Her and her son were at my house 15 minutes later cleaning away! When I came back a couple hours later to pay Fatima I was shocked at the condition of the house! It was sparkling and smelled incredible! My Wife and I will be forever grateful for Fatima showing up late on a Friday night with 15 minutes of notice to ensure that our first house buying experience was a great one! She has found a forever client and referral from me! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!

Best moving experience we've had so far. Lee was professional and respectful of our belongings, and took extra care to ensure no damage occurred. They showed up early, worked hard and finished much faster than I expected. Great people, great work ethic and attitude. I will recommend them to friends and others who are looking to hire professional movers. The entire process went smoothly and without incident.

Tranzambezi was all around a great company to work with, they called me before arriving to let me know they would be 15 minutes late. I really appreciated the communication and keeping me updated. They had me sign a contract when they arrived and write down the start time so I could time the 3 hour minimum. They did a great job working quickly and carefully. I really appreciate their professionalism, communication, and work quality. My only suggestion would be to update their Thumbtack profile to reflect the fuel charge that is mentioned on their website. I'd definitely hire Tranzambezi again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a high quality, professional, affordable mover. Thanks for great work!

These guys were great! My sister and I had to bring the u-haul ourselves. We were a little nervous about everything. These guys went above and beyond! They asked where we wanted everything placed. They were very careful, yet quick. They even helped us assemble bed frames and a mirror that we had no idea how to do. They packed our empty boxes back to the u-haul as we moved along in the process. Hire Mastermind Movers! You can't go wrong. Friendly. Professional. Great service.

Simply fantastic! My only gripe is that the move took a long time. I can't blame the movers because I have a large residence and most of my things are on the expensive side and needed special care as a result. I had four men and it was obvious that each one knew knew their business. These people knew their business and conducted themselves in a fashion that instilled confidence in their abilities. They took their time to protect all my things and my furniture made it to my new home without a scratch. I had them unwrap everything, re-assemble the beds and do the set up the way my wife wanted. I am simply thrilled that I found this company and plan to use them again in the future.

Amerapex was recommended to us by a friend. We thought we could do this move on our own but figured out in the middle of it we were going to need help. It wasn't just last minute it was during the move that we called for help and Alex was able to get a crew to us in no time!!! I cannot thank them enough and will recommend to anyone needing a moving service!

Scott and Tony were great! They worked hard and were very professional. They were a little late but called beforehand to let us know. The quote given (by Marisa in the office) was accurate and there were no hidden charges or up-charges when the men came. The men made the adjustmentment for their being a little late with no charge to me. We very much appreciated their help with our move and I would highly recommended them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
