If I could give 6 stars, I would. Bruce and his son Jake are pros., and a couple of the nicest guys I've had the pleasure of doing business with. I hired them to remove and replace my driveway and sidewalk from my house. They were attentive, hard working, and very competitively priced. I will definitely keep in contact with them for any future concrete projects, and will gladly recommend them to anyone looking for quality concrete work.

J&k are Amazing!! We needed to redo our fence, add a patio, trim and remove trees & bushes, extend our driveway, move huge rocks, and clean out all flower beds! They had it done in a week! They are such are hard workers and they didn’t put us off for another job or rush it! They are easy to work with and even kept my grumpy neighbor happy which was wonderful! Their prices are very reasonable and fair! I will be recommending them to everyone I know! I can’t stop raving about them! But honestly the work speaks for itself! Just amazing!!

Henry and his team have done a wonderful job in getting the approach and expansion on our double wide driveway complete. He's done well at communicating what he needs and answers any questions you have. His negotiations regarding bids/cost are excellent. Couldn't have asked for a better team to work with.

Ladies and Gentlemen: I just wanted to express my thanks and appreciation for the recent job well done by your company in putting in a new cement driveway, walkway and front porch at my house. The work done by Rockey and his crew and associates was of high quality, professional and handled in a caring and personal way, which I especially appreciate. I found the cost of this cement work project was reasonable, as well. For future reference, I would recommend Rockey’s Concrete to do any similar cement work, and I would especially recommend Rockey and his crew and associates to do the job. Sincerely, Casey Pachciarz

Lee was reliable, professional and very thorough in his work. He had the concrete truck to our job at the time he said and it turned out great! He explained the process and asked about finishes desired as well as educating the whole process and what to expect. He also cleaned up the residual on the driveway and all through the grass from having to cart it back to the job. (The job was filling in a 2 ft wide by 50 ft long cut in a driveway where a culinary line was laid prior.) We will use him again!!

***Kendall Lawnscapes is the BEST!!** We hired Kendall Lawnscapes to finish our backyard by installing pea gravel and pavers. I seriously can't say enough good things about this company! He was fast to respond, great with communication, very knowledgeable in this industry, highly experienced in his work, and the project was completed extremely quick. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are the details of my full experience with Kendall Lawnscapes: Recently I had just moved into a home where the backyard was not finished and there was nothing but dirt. I was in a time crunch to get my yard put in because I have 2 dogs and winter was approaching very quickly. (Meaning that it would be too muddy in the backyard to let my dogs outside) We had looked at a few other places to get quotes and actually ended up selecting a completely different professional to install our pavers due to the time crunch. The professional we hired the first time had actually installed the pavers incorrectly. We decided to place a request hoping we would find someone who could not only fix the pavers but finish our backyard in a timely manner. Kyler was very quick to respond and let us know he could help us out right away. We met with him to give us a quote and hired him right away because we were so impressed by his knowledge and experience. The team got started working on the project right away and ended up having to pull up all the pavers. They had to basically redo EVERYTHING because it was done incorrectly the first time by a completely different professional. The work Kyler and his team did was complete as quickly as promised and I was blown away by the OUTSTANDING job they did!! Please, if you are thinking of using another company DON'T do it and hire Kendall Lawnscapes. (Trust me because unfortunetly I had learned this the hard way) **I promise you won't regret hiring Kendall Lawnscapes to help you accomplish your projects!**

When we started looking for a concrete company to install a concrete driveway, several companies did not return calls or did not come when they said they would. We called and requested quotes and felt like we had to pester them to get them to pay attention to us. We were very happy with Samson and Sons. They came out the same day that we called them, even though they were very busy. They were easy to communicate with and were focused on us as the customer. They installed the concrete the day that they promised. The price we were quoted was the price we paid. It was a very reasonable and fair price. The concrete looks great and we are very pleased with its appearance. We were also happy that they kept the worksite as clean as possible. We would definitely recommend Samson and Sons.

Dale was a pleasure to work with. He came and did an estimate for free, and even gave us various options for our driveway with the pros and cons for each one. I liked that, because it made me feel like he legitimately cared about what was best for me. I'll be contacting Dale again for all my driveway needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
