Nick took my case on extremely short notice and was able to get me extra time. Nick worked with me on the retainer fee, not one attorney I've had before or called were willing to do this! He was very easy to talk to and very quick to respond, at any time of day, to my concerns. I have worked with many attorneys and nick is the ONLY one I would call for further services. I'm very impressed!!

Attorney Daniel Irvin is professional, talented, thorough and trustworthy. He did a superb job handling my case. His fee was less expensive than other attorneys, and he reduced the amount quoted by 50% as the case took less time than he anticipated. Daniel Irvin is a fair and honest man.

Working with the Law Office of Paul B. Johnson has been incredible. He first contacted me on a Saturday since I first sent out my request for a Patent or Intellectual Property attorneys since I first put out an ad on Thursday September 14. My first ad I placed I believe was too frantic and specific so I sent out a different one on Saturday September 16. He was one of the first to answer, and to be honest, working on a weekend was impressive. His prices were also upfront and fair given his background knowledge in engineering and his experience. I personally found the fact that he has two separate engineering degrees impressive as well since he can call upon that experience, training, and knowledge in thinking about the creation or production of a product, if applicable. I emailed him a description of my idea and was enthused as I was. Although through some research we found similar ideas already produced they were different enough that we’re not quite sure whether to pursue the project or not, and he was very upfront with me about his opinion, and what to do and not to do. His appraisal of the situation was very honest and his opinion was to spare me a patent search which would have been costly, but which would have been beneficial for his bottom line. That showed character to me. Instead, he shared with me some other ideas and options for the product since although it had been made before, no one had ever really heard about it and it was not publicly known or in the public eye. Although I’m not sure where that initial idea of an invention will go, I have quite a few other ideas to explore and pursue and the Law Office of Paul B. Johnson is going to be my first place to go. I recommend you do the same. Good luck!

I have hired Mark on more than one occasion. He is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated. He is on the forefront of the law and this age of communication. I appreciate being able to send a quick email to get answers, rather than trying to plow through assistants and staff members to get answers. He communicates directly with me, and I think it is rare to actually communicate with the attorney instead of their secretary. He does a great job, is compassionate and understanding, and explained things in a way that I could understand clearly. Totally worth it!

In my lifetime, I have been required to retain an attorney a number of times for a variety of reasons. I can honestly say that Andrew McAdams was the first I retained where I walked away totally satisfied that I had a true advocate representing and working for me. He listened carefully to my problem and then moved quickly to address it. He represented me in negotiations and did so with skill, restraint, and a determination to make sure I had been heard. He was extremely responsive to my calls, making me feel as though I was his only client. You could say he is the very antithesis of the attorneys who so richly deserve to be the brunt of so many jokes. I highly recommend Andrew.

Never done anything like this before, and I will admit I was a little nervous, but Linda made it painless. She also sat with me and explained things during the hearing, and I noticed many other attorneys sitting far apart from their clients. That might not mean much to everyone but it helped calm me down.

Tineke was amazing to work with! I wish I would have meet her earlier. Tineke’s knowledge, and support during this process was exactly what I needed. If you are looking for a devoice attorney that has your back and will help you every step of the way, Tineke is perfect for you! I was overwhelmed with all the paperwork, going to the court house and trying to understand all the legal jargon. Tineke knew exactly what to do and did an amazing job. If you are in this stressful situation of getting a devoice like I was I know Tineke can help you.

If you find yourself in need of an Experienced, Skilled and Very Personable Attorney, you won't find one any better than Benjamin Kearns of BK Law. I recently found myself in the unfortunate situation of needing to file for divorce and not knowing any experienced family law attorneys I turned to the internet and spent several weeks researching local attorneys. Thumbtack came thru by linking me with Ben and I am so glad that they did. Ben patiently took the time to listen to my nightmare/situation and to get to know me and he listened. He understood my situation and needs in such a way that I knew without a doubt he was the lawyer I wanted by my side, protecting me and my interests. He listens and even though I know he has other clients, he gives me his undivided attention when I've had questions or needs as we've worked through this nightmare together. His experience and compassionate demeanor has helped relieve a lot of stress and anxiety. As another unfortunate byproduct of my marriage I had other legal needs that I without hesitation engage his services for as well. If you are reading this and are in need of an experienced attorney who you can count on to listen to you and protect you and your best interests, don't waste anymore valuable time trying to find a good attorney elsewhere. Ben Kearns is the best...HANDS DOWN!

When I had my accident I did not think that I would need an Attorney since I was feeling pretty good. Then two days later things changed since I started getting headaches. I posted a request on Thumbtack and immediately received a response from Craig Dell. Craig was able to help guide me and give me advise on what to do and who to see for my injuries and car repairs. My pain grew worse and I knew I had to make some serious decisions about the medical help I needed. I started to investigate my injuries and the doctors that I would feel comfortable operating on me. Besides a great outcome from the operation, Craig handled all the medical bill reductions and was able to get me a settlement that I was happy with. I felt that I was dealing with professionals during the whole time that cared more about me than the settlement.

This was a very informative and productive visit. Mr. Barnes provided a ‘menu pricing sheet’ and reviewed the details very thoroughly. This eliminated any surprises. The documentation was very thorough and detailed. And Mr. Barnes was very courteous and personable. All in all, this was a very productive, courteous, and cost-effective visit. I can recommend Mr. Barnes highly.

Anthony is very qualified for his field of defending those as a defense attorney. He was able to get my case down from a felony to a misdemeanor, the police officer who pulled me over thought I was on Drugs, but tests showed different. The way my case was handled by Anthony I would highly recommend him to any one needing an Attorney. He works to get the results that both he and the client be satisfied with.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

    • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
    • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
    • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
    • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
    • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
    • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.
