Stone did a wonderful job extending our driveway. He was very professional and completed the job as promised. He went above and beyond by offering to also fill another area I didn't realize would be beneficial to have cement in. I am so grateful for his expertise.

I would highly recommend Steve to complete you concrete job. He is knowledgeable, reliable and very meticulous with what he does. We were on a tight schedule to complete a driveway and sidewalk before the city started construction on our road. He contacted us immediately and had the job done that very week. It looks amazing and we are having him back to complete some concrete jobs we need done on other properties we own.

Had a pretty long driveway that needed installing right away - 10 x 100. Not only was Sam prompt and courteous, but he really did over deliver on services and performance. We were very happy with the work performed- nice clean finish, did everything he said he would, we will definitely look to use his company in the future.

Henry and his team have done a wonderful job in getting the approach and expansion on our double wide driveway complete. He's done well at communicating what he needs and answers any questions you have. His negotiations regarding bids/cost are excellent. Couldn't have asked for a better team to work with.

DAVID/BARBARA OSBORN Thanks a lot for your work on the driveway and the rock wall in the back, made from the broken driveway concrete. The exposed aggregate texture on the driveway looks great. (It sure looked easy to see your guys do it compared to my backdoor neighbor’s experience with his contractor who failed twice to get a decent exposed aggregate look! That was an expensive project for that contractor. They just didn’t seem to know how. I would recommend your guys any time. I guess it is not as easy as some think. The rock wall looks great. It’s nice and curvaceous. A great addition to the yard. It looks nice and the terraced level above the trail is easier to maintain and do some different plantings. Now, all I have to do is finish my portion of the rock wall transition from the old to the new. Keep up the good work. It was a pleasure doing business with you.

Procoro was always quick to respond to my messages and got my project done quickly. His pricing is very reasonable and he did excellent work. Our porch and steps had been chipping for years and had a huge crater at the top and large parts of the step corners missing; now they look brand-new! He was able to get the color to match our old driveway too. I recommend him highly, don't hesitate to hire him! He was also nice enough to repair a cinderblock fence for us while he was here. Great guy!

Lee was reliable, professional and very thorough in his work. He had the concrete truck to our job at the time he said and it turned out great! He explained the process and asked about finishes desired as well as educating the whole process and what to expect. He also cleaned up the residual on the driveway and all through the grass from having to cart it back to the job. (The job was filling in a 2 ft wide by 50 ft long cut in a driveway where a culinary line was laid prior.) We will use him again!!

Steve was fantastic to work with. He lifted our sidewalk, roughly 4 squares and a square of our driveway. He completed the work quickly and expertly. We hired him to lift the cement, not to fill cracks, but he told me exactly what products to purchase, where to get them and how to fill the cracks. He gave advice and answered questions of no benefit to him but very helpful to us. I would highly recommend Steve for concrete lifting. He beat other quotes we received by half. Thank you fo a job well done!

I had Big Will come out and give me a bid to make my approach to my driveway about 20 ft wider. Bid was good, so i gave him the job. They arrived on the job when i was told they'd be there. Work was great so i had him bid my RV pad, 130 ft by 15 ft They rocked it in a timely manner. Would recommend to anyone. They kept my place clean, where very freindly, and did exactly what he said. Thanks Will. Mike R

I really appreciated their brooming of my Concrete and I like his pricing. He showed up when he said and got right to work. My only complaint is my bottom step is much taller than my second stair step so it’s awkward going up my steps. Overall I would recommend and use again.

My husband and I were building a home in Veral and had a hard time finding anyone local to build our driveway. One of our family friends recommended Samson & Sons construction. I was worried they wouldn’t be able to travel all the way to Vernal, since they are located in Salt Lake, but they did! And for an amazing price! They pretty much beat out all the other companies we called. They were so nice to work with and did an awesome job! They are a family owned business which I love!! They were able to do stamp work for my driveway and it made the front of my home look gorgeous! I didn’t even have a driveway to begin with and now I do. My home is complete and I’m really pleased with their work. I recommend them to all my friends!

Kyle and Royal K Construction have been great to work with. His family has done concrete work for generations, so they really know their stuff. They poured our addition foundation and garage and we liked their work so much that we had them do our driveway and back patio(stamped) as well. Kyle and his team are always there bright and early and work very hard. Their prices are fair and they do quality work. They are easy to communicate with and were always patient in answering our many questions. In doing our home remodel they were the only contractor who were always there, on time, when they said they would be there. I would highly recommend Royal K Construction for their quality of work, professionalism, and communication.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
