Nick is awesome! I'm from out of state and needed help there in Utah. He was all over it. Fortunately Nick was right about how the event would unfold. He even have the results quicker than my attorney and the court system here where I live. Most other attorneys would never of help the way he did. Five Stars ***** Thanks again Nick

Working with the Law Office of Paul B. Johnson has been incredible. He first contacted me on a Saturday since I first sent out my request for a Patent or Intellectual Property attorneys since I first put out an ad on Thursday September 14. My first ad I placed I believe was too frantic and specific so I sent out a different one on Saturday September 16. He was one of the first to answer, and to be honest, working on a weekend was impressive. His prices were also upfront and fair given his background knowledge in engineering and his experience. I personally found the fact that he has two separate engineering degrees impressive as well since he can call upon that experience, training, and knowledge in thinking about the creation or production of a product, if applicable. I emailed him a description of my idea and was enthused as I was. Although through some research we found similar ideas already produced they were different enough that we’re not quite sure whether to pursue the project or not, and he was very upfront with me about his opinion, and what to do and not to do. His appraisal of the situation was very honest and his opinion was to spare me a patent search which would have been costly, but which would have been beneficial for his bottom line. That showed character to me. Instead, he shared with me some other ideas and options for the product since although it had been made before, no one had ever really heard about it and it was not publicly known or in the public eye. Although I’m not sure where that initial idea of an invention will go, I have quite a few other ideas to explore and pursue and the Law Office of Paul B. Johnson is going to be my first place to go. I recommend you do the same. Good luck!

Working with Ryan Baxter was a pleasure. He was efficient, organized, answered all of my questions, and had great integrity with the way he handled my needs. He thought of things that I didn't, as has left me with the peace of mind of knowing that my assets are protected. Ryan is both honest and fair (not usually characteristics associated with attorneys). Highly recommend.

I have hired Mark on more than one occasion. He is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated. He is on the forefront of the law and this age of communication. I appreciate being able to send a quick email to get answers, rather than trying to plow through assistants and staff members to get answers. He communicates directly with me, and I think it is rare to actually communicate with the attorney instead of their secretary. He does a great job, is compassionate and understanding, and explained things in a way that I could understand clearly. Totally worth it!

10/10! Best attorney I've ever had. I've hired him for some minor things that I couldn't get done on my own. He is extremely honest and always takes his time to make sure I am comfortable with the situation and understand exactly what is going on. He has explained to me on a couple occasions that I didn't need an attorney. Others would have simply taken my money. I'd hire him again without any hesitation!

I have never had an attorney that has represented me in the way Jeff has. He knows the law and knows how to implement it in the best way for your case. He is assertive in the court room with the upmost respect. I am very relieved and thankful to have him as an attorney.

Never done anything like this before, and I will admit I was a little nervous, but Linda made it painless. She also sat with me and explained things during the hearing, and I noticed many other attorneys sitting far apart from their clients. That might not mean much to everyone but it helped calm me down.

It was a pleasure to have my divorce papers filed by this company. If you, like me, got married young and never had any kids or assets, THIS IS THE PLACE TO HAVE YOUR DIVORCE FILED FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST OF AN ATTORNEY. Eudo is so personable and friendly, and his knowledge of the legal system in Salt Lake helps get things done quickly. My ex husband signed his half of the papers on March 12th, and our divorce was complete on April 1st. This might not be the same in your case, but for me it was great to have done in a timely manner. I would absolutely recommend this service to anyone wanting to file for divorce without paying $1-3k for an attorney. These guys are awesome. -CKonold, Salt Lake City, UT

Ms Butters replied first to my inquiry because she understands that creditors are harassing me and she wants to help. Yes I did get cheaper quotes but it took 2 hours for the next attorney to reply.

This was a very informative and productive visit. Mr. Barnes provided a ‘menu pricing sheet’ and reviewed the details very thoroughly. This eliminated any surprises. The documentation was very thorough and detailed. And Mr. Barnes was very courteous and personable. All in all, this was a very productive, courteous, and cost-effective visit. I can recommend Mr. Barnes highly.

Chris is an amazing Attorney but he's also just a great guy! I felt he really cared about the issues and concerns I was bringing up in my custody case and that he really cared about what happened to my child. Also, during this time I was disabled and unable to work and fell behind on payments. Chris continued to work on my case just as hard as he was when my bill was paid regularly and was sensitive to my financial struggles. He never made me feel bad or guilty about getting behind. The case was settled to my satisfaction and I'm now back to being able to pay my bill. When you're going through a stressful situation like I was, it was nice to have an attorney like Chris who was understanding, sympathetic and didn't add to the stress!

Russell and his team were on the ball and always responded right away. I was given his name as a referral from a friend and he fought for my rights the way you'd expect when you hire an attorney. I had a great experience and would use them again.

I'm typically the type of person that likes to resolve any issue as quickly as possible so that I don't have to think about. Jeff reached out to me as soon as I sent a request for some assistance with an IRS notice I received. His responsiveness was so quick, I found myself scrambling to do the tasks in time before receiving a following up email from him. Jeff understood my issue and was able to outline a detailed plan of how to help me. Not only did he save me a lot of money, he was able to answer all of my questions and save me time in dealing with the issue. In fact, by the time he was finished helping me, I was still receiving quotes from other tax attorneys. I appreciate all that he did for me and would recommend his services to everyone!

We have trusted Aaron with all of our tax issues and tax questions for the past few years. We continue to work with him because he is trustworthy, dependable and knowledgeable and he gets the job done. The greatest advantage for us is the peace of mind we feel knowing he is handling everything for us. We were in pretty bad shape with the IRS, owing employer taxes as well as 1040 taxes, and we had several tax liens with our businesses. He worked out a do-able installment agreement with the IRS and the rest is history! Since federal taxes cover all 50 states, he does not have to be licensed in each state so it doesn't matter where you live in regards to having Aaron work for you. He is extremely professional and pursues the IRS with respect but determination. Prior to finding Aaron, we had worked with two other companies with "tax attorney's" and we found both of them to be worthless, just taking our money - money we could have paid to the IRS instead. Aaron was a godsend and we are so thankful! He is very reasonable with his fees and we are thankful for that, too. We would not hesitate to recommend Aaron to any of our friends or family for any tax issues.

Mr. Birk at Utah Divorce Help has been a godsend. In my lengthy, difficult divorce dispute he's been incredible to work with. From quick responses to my questions to error-free documents, Mr. Birk remembers the many many details of my case and has never let me down! I had been through a couple attorneys before him, and had issues with communication or getting the facts of my case wrong. I have NEVER had to worry about those things with Mr. Birk representing me! I live out of state, and sometimes cannot make it out to Utah for hearings, but with representation like Utah Divorce Help, I never need to worry! I seriously would not go anywhere else when it comes to my family's legal needs! Thank you Mr. Birk!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

    • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
    • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
    • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
    • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
    • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
    • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
    • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

    • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
    • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
    • Have an ownership stake in a business
    • Expect someone to contest your will
    • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
