Excellent movers! Very efficient and experienced movers. Highly professional yet personable. We had a lot of heavy boxes and a house full of our belongings to move and they wasted no time in getting the job done in under the estimated time frame. I appreciated how well they wrapped and boxes our belongings. Would use again in a heart beat.

Next to death and divorce, moving is rated as one of the most stressful events in life. We sold our home in December and were able to rent it back from the new buyers till the end of April. Our new home wasn't completed till the end of May, so we had to sort of float for a month in between. After loading up half the house so we could stage it well and sell it, load up the rest of it as we moved, and then pack around what we needed to live for a month, I feel like we've already moved several times this year. I didn't have it in me to unload two storage units and two PODs into a two story house with a finished basement. With so many rooms to fill, I knew it would be a daunting task to place everything, so I went looking for movers. I was extremely touched by the story of The Other Side Movers. Everybody deserves redemption and I am very impressed with the program that TOSA has for these men. I know the list of people wanting to be involved with TOSA is a long one and they are very selective of who is allowed in the program. What a great thing to offer people. They showed up at my storage unit before I did, and I thought I was on time. We went straight to work unloading unit number 1 and then rolled over to unit number 2. Within an hour they had packed up a 10x10 and a 10x15 storage unit into their truck. They descended on those units like a pack of hyenas attacking a wounded zebra. I was amazed at how efficiently they worked together to stage the unit outside so they could pack the truck in the most effective way possible. They knew just how to do it. I would never want to play Tetris with these guys. I know when I've met my match. We headed over to the new house where two very packed 16x8 PODs were waiting for us. They put my wife and I in the garage and had us direct traffic as they unloaded everything with such efficiency that my head spun. 2 hours later they had placed all of my furniture where we wanted it and carried everything else to the various rooms where we wanted it. The whole time they were smiling and joking and looking like it was a great day to be alive. They demonstrated such a work ethic that even my 12 year old noticed and commented on how hard they were working. After they had everything loaded in they were still happy to re-position anything that we wanted moved around. They offered to assemble bedroom furniture and unpack anything we needed help with. It wasn't like they were done and ready to go have lunch or something, which is exactly where I would have been after working that hard. After all was said and done they had moved my family of 5 into a 3600 sq ft house in about 3.5 hours total. Two days later I probably would have still been trying to unload the storage units if I had to do this on my own. Without any family in this time zone or friends who owe me favors that large, I would have really been in trouble if it wasn't for The Other Side Movers. Not one piece of furniture was scratched, chipped, or damaged during the move. I didn't see them hit a single wall or drop a single box. With a brand new house it would have been really obvious if they had dragged a couch down a wall or something. They offered to fix any damage that we found even though I didn't see anything to be concerned about. I would recommend The Other Side Movers to anybody and I would definitely use them again. The fact that my new house still looks new even after half a dozen people were moving things in is a great sign of great movers. I am often very stingy with my praise, but these guys deserve all I can offer. It was a fantastic experience that really took the edge off one of the most stressful events in our lives.

Very reasonably price Fast and efficient movers. By far the fastest movers I've ever had and at an amazing price. They were also able to fit me into their schedule even when I asked two days in advance. I have had bad experiences with movers in the past overcharging, breaking a few things and moving so slow; this was the complete opposite. They were able to move my items without damaging anything. When they told me the total I was shocked at how affordable it was! Thank you so much for your amazing service and making moving easier.

My wife and I had just purchased our first home, we walked in the door for the first time 12 hours before our movers were to arrive. We walked in to a gross dirty house with thousands of dead bugs all over the place. With little hope we could get a cleaner out at 7 o'clock on a Friday night I placed a hopeful request on Thumbtack. After being told "no way" by multiple pro's, Fatima came in clutch! Even apologizing that she didn't write me back sooner (I think 5 minutes is a good response time). Her and her son were at my house 15 minutes later cleaning away! When I came back a couple hours later to pay Fatima I was shocked at the condition of the house! It was sparkling and smelled incredible! My Wife and I will be forever grateful for Fatima showing up late on a Friday night with 15 minutes of notice to ensure that our first house buying experience was a great one! She has found a forever client and referral from me! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!

They showed up earlier than we expected, but that was good because it took longer than we thought! They were very polite and willing to help. We had 3 movers and they were efficient. It cost a little more than I expected, but it was well worth it.

We rented a moving and it wasn’t big enough for all of our things. The two movers from Checklist took the time to neatly and gently pack everything and make it work. It was 100 degrees outside and they continued to work diligently. They were Awesome and affordable.

I really enjoyed working with the Pro Movers. My job was to have them move my treadmill from downstairs to upstairs. They were careful about turns and put it exactly where I wanted it. The small tables they had to move out of the way were put back exactly where they had been. Honestly, they were perfectly centered, and I am critical down to an eighth of an inch! I especially appreciated their friendliness and professionalism throughout. I would hire them again.

Connor helped us to unload the moving boxes and furniture of a one-bedroom apartment. He carried and put our stuff carefully and finished the job in around 3.5 hours. We think that he was doing a good job and the charge is relatively low compared to other movers.

These guys were great! My sister and I had to bring the u-haul ourselves. We were a little nervous about everything. These guys went above and beyond! They asked where we wanted everything placed. They were very careful, yet quick. They even helped us assemble bed frames and a mirror that we had no idea how to do. They packed our empty boxes back to the u-haul as we moved along in the process. Hire Mastermind Movers! You can't go wrong. Friendly. Professional. Great service.

Scott and Tony were great! They worked hard and were very professional. They were a little late but called beforehand to let us know. The quote given (by Marisa in the office) was accurate and there were no hidden charges or up-charges when the men came. The men made the adjustmentment for their being a little late with no charge to me. We very much appreciated their help with our move and I would highly recommended them.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
