Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Hi! I have recently reduced my professional rates significantly in the hopes that more aspiring musicians of all ages are able to continue their lessons. After living for 18 years in Europe, I am now based (between concert tours) in the Salt Lake City, Utah region, where we have just moved from the California Bay Area. I am continuing to work online worldwide, giving private lessons (piano and voice), performance coaching (all instruments), audition preparation/coaching, accompanying, and piano pedagogy consultations for other piano teachers regarding a unique full-body "from the core" approach that helps students at all levels of their growth. I teach using a variety of online platforms, and also have in-person students who are based in Utah or fly in from other parts of the world for longer coaching sessions. And I would love to work with YOU so do get in touch. I'm an internationally renowned classical musician, vocal soloist and concert pianist/recording artist offering interpretation and performance coaching, piano lessons and vocal coaching/accompaniment. Services include the following: 1. private piano lessons in interpretation, technique, repertoire and performance (a very unique approach to muscular relaxation, phrasing and technique based on the Anatomy of the Body, as taught to me originally by Mary Sauer, pianist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra) 2. pedagogy for piano teachers based on that same approach 3. vocal lessons for beginners through intermediate, both youth and adults, on projection, pitch matching, tone production, finding one's voice, etc. 4. repertoire and performance coaching/rehearsal accompanying in classical lieder, opera, Broadway, American songbook, musicals of all periods, etc for more experienced vocalists 5. chamber music coaching, judging/adjudicating of competitions, performance coaching for all instrumentalists and voice types 6. choral conducting and master classes 7. recital accompanist and duo recital partner for professional artists of all voices and instruments I teach all ages/levels with a very unique approach based the anatomy of the body, enabling us to sing, learn and play piano all with greater speed and ease. I teach/coach online, in master classes/workshops at music schools worldwide, but as mentioned above will also be setting up my new home studio in Utah. My online rates are $50 per half hour, $90 per hour. In-person rates are $110 per hour and $60 per half hour. Please feel free to text/call me if you would like to set up an initial (paid) session just to see how it feels - I believe folks should always take an initial lesson with 2-3 different people without any obligation to continue, because that relationship is a very personal connection that will be different with each individual. I would love to virtually meet you and hear you, and we can inspire each other towards a higher level of music-making! For my beliefs about music, see the many video interviews on my website, or see my TEDx presentation on the power of music, by putting in "TEDx Intentional Listening; Donna Stoering" into YouTube. At the moment my website is being re-designed but you can find a brief one-page bio on the link below. Thank you!

Singing Lessons

I can't recommend Donna high enough. She is an excellent voice coach, great pianist, incredibly flexible and just a very nice, sweet person. My daughter is 17 and is pretty experienced musically, but Donna was able to point out her weaknesses and helped immensely with her audition tape. She's willing to spend the time to get it right. She's not inexpensive, but worth every penny.

Piano Lessons (for adults)

Donna is top notch. She is warm, engaging, encouraging, and teaches from a philosophy that brings piano and music to life. I really appreciate her as both an artist and teacher. I highly recommend her.

Piano Lessons (for adults)

Just had my first lesson with Donna this evening and I have already learned a lot! Seeing things with fresh eyes and I'm excited to learn more and improve my playing technique, despite the challenges of arthritis! I was hoping there was a way to continue my passion in music without worsening the pain I currently have in my hands. One word -- inspired!

Singing Lessons

I hired Donna to prepare me to perform a song to sing to my little sister for her 18th birthday. I could not have been any happier that I did! She was immediately responsive to my initial contact and throughout the entire process. With less than a month to prepare she worked with my schedule and made herself readily available. She was very kind, patient, and a GREAT coach! She not only had a technical approach to music but also emotional & spiritual as well. After each lesson I left not only having a better understanding of the material, but if myself as well. Needless to say, I was able to give my sister a gift that I was proud of and I owe it all to Donna! Thank you for everything!

Piano Lessons (for adults)

Donna is the ultimate teacher! She teaches you using 101 different teaching techniques until you get it. If you still don't get it, she will invent the 102nd method just to meet your needs! Very professional and experienced teacher. Strongly recommend!

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My prices are admittedly at the high end of the spectrum but given my years of professional teaching experience worldwide in music schools of all age and career levels, these current fees are actually lower than those of my colleagues (of equal standing) nationwide, and these fees are discounted from the hourly rates I was already earning many years back. During Covid with many people struggling to pay their monthly bills, I am also very willing to reduce these rates on a case-by-case individual basis as much as possible, for seriously interested students.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Getting to know your reasons for working with me - how I can specifically help you and make the most difference in your musical growth; Give an overview of my "performance from the core" approach which has aspects that work for both piano playing and singing; Demonstrate differences in piano tone or vocal sound, based on that approach; and then where we begin (repertoire etc) depends on the experience level of the student and the type of online platform we both find works between us.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Private piano lessons since age 3; (public concerts since age 5); singing on television and in musicals, accapella groups etc from age 13; completed B.A. and M.A. degrees in music and sociology with highest honors at age 19 from SJSU (Calif, USA) completed M.M. degree (UK equivalent of D.Mus.) in musicological research of performance practices, at Univ of York, England at age 22; Began teaching piano professionally at age 11 and conducting choirs professionally at age 13; Became Head of Piano Dept at a music conservatory at age 17, teaching 30 students per week while completing university degrees; Head of Piano and Chamber Music/performance coaching at University of York (UK) age 20-23; have since taught piano and masterclasses in universities, specialist music schools (for kids) and music conservatories in countless cities around the world. Named Artist in Residence to Oxford University (teaching piano, voice, and performance coaching) for several years; While living in Europe became vocal/repertoire coach and recital accompanist to famed opera singers from La Scala, the Met, Bolshoi, Royal Opera, Munich Opera, etc. Also coached the singers and directed them for opera/musicals in UK, Europe and throughout USA. Developed workshops teaching piano teachers how to apply the "from the core" approach; still travel to give these workshops to piano teacher associations, music conservatories worldwide, etc
