Initial Review (Day of Completed Project): Garrett was fantastic. I needed to open up a bearing wall in my basement for an ADU, and he gave thoughtful advice that led me to change my plans slightly (opening the wall wider), which ended up working out much better. He was on time, responsive, and patient in explaining everything. I'd happily recommend Alpine Contractors to anybody, especially for structural changes to your home.
Update (~30 Days After Initial Work): I'm updating this review because issues surfaced during inspection that I couldn't have caught myself, and they ended up costing me over $1,000 to fix.
Garrett arrived within days of accepting the bid, completed the work in a few hours, and offered advice along the way. All positives. However, two significant problems emerged:
1. Misidentifying a bearing wall. I asked Garrett to open two areas: one I was confident was bearing, and one I was unsure about, which is why I hired him for his structural experience. He initially assessed the second area as bearing, then changed his assessment on closer inspection and confidently told me it could be removed entirely, including the supporting posts. He removed it. During the city's 4-way inspection, the inspector suspected the wall was in fact bearing and required an engineer to verify. In fairness to Garrett, the engineer's own initial assumption was also that it wasn't bearing, but after spending time studying the home's structure, the engineer confirmed it was bearing and required a 4x4 post to support the header. Garrett returned and corrected the mistake for an added parts and labor fee, but did not acknowledge or apologize for the error.
2. Framing quality issues. Garrett also framed an L-shaped wall as part of the job. When my sheetrock contractor arrived, he flagged numerous issues with the framing, such as misalignments requiring extra 2x4 supports and shaved sheetrock just to compensate, that made the wall harder to finish than it should have been.
I still think Garrett is personable and communicative, and some of his structural instincts were good. But the bearing-wall misjudgment was a frustrating issue that made it past his own assessment, and the framing quality problems added real cost and time. I'd recommend getting a second opinion (e.g. from an engineer) on any load-bearing determinations and having someone inspect framing work closely before signing off.

I am very open with my pricing for all project sizes. You control the final price based on early decisions and eliminating changes. As we approach certain completion markers there are always opportunities to receive discounts for simpler selections.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When we meet, I will give you an on the spot estimate or at most an estimate same day. We will discuss your vision, needs, timeline, and budget and come to agreement where those four factors meet.
