Our organization had a large number of trees and debris that needed to be hauled away and cut down. The appropriate equipment was out on site and Ed had the project done in record time since it consisted of about 2.5 acres that needed to be cleared with brush needing to be removed as well. Scope of work was removal of trees/brush and debris and also leveling the land to make sure there was the right drainage. Project took 4 days to be completed and I couldn't be more happy with the service and the customer service that I always received since I did call Ed in the late evening and he always made a point to answer and return calls. Will be referring to our other commercial clients!!

Tree Removal and Trimming, Stump Grinding We had 7 trees removed, others trimmed, and new and old stumps grinded. We received 4 quotes. Of the quotes, Adilson and crew were the best priced and seemed to be the most professional. They were the only ones who showed up in company attire. Others were more expensive and looked ratty and unprofessional in comparison. We were very happy with our experience from start to finish. They were quick, thorough, and careful. The trees were close to the house, fence, shed, and a parked car. They covered the car and brought down branches around it without damage. They also cleaned up the site very well before they left. We were impressed! Thanks for the great job!

Cannot say enough good things about Ernesto and his team. Very professional, provided a solid and competitive quote, and took very good care during the process of removing a giant holly tree from my yard. Stayed in touch, and now is in the process of landscaping my front yard and back yard - giving me at-retail value cost of bushes, and helping to brainstorm through ideas. See attached photos for before and after tree removal, very well done! Thank you!

After waiting since November to have a contractor come out to clean my gutter. I gave up and tried to locate another contractor. After several replies on Thumbtack, I decided on Reinaldo Torres of Del Ray Landscaping. First thing, he was in the Alexandria area. Many contractors are too far and feel it is not worth their while to travel for a small job. Second thing, its a landscaping business that does gutter cleaning. Great!! My neighbor has tree with limbs overhanging on my roof that traditional gutter cleaners will not touch. Third thing, his quote was inline with the others as far as the gutter cleaning. I did not mention the tree at the time, but the quote for cleaning my gutter was very reasonable. I contacted Reinaldo on Saturday, New Years Eve. He came out the same day in which I explained I wanted my roof swept and gutter cleaned. At that time, I asked if he would be willing to prune the branches overhanging my roof. He stated that would not be a problem for an additional/reasonable fee. We scheduled an appointment for two days later, Monday. It was raining on Monday. Reinaldo, called that morning and explained it was not a good day due to the weather. I understood and we scheduled for the next Saturday. I then looked at the weather for that weekend, and there was a possibility of snow and cold later that week. I called Reinaldo back and asked if he could come out Wednesday, January 4th, after 3:00 PM when I was off work. No problem. Reinaldo and a friend came out Wednesday around 3:30PM. They apologized for being late for they had mechanical issues on the work truck. Most contractors would have canceled. Not Reinaldo, he put a ladder on his family mini-van and came out. Taking about dedication and only 30 min late!!! Reinaldo and his friend, Nelson, did a great job with the tree pruning, roof sweeping, and cleaning out my gutter. They cleaned up after and everything looked great. I am very happy with the service and definitely will be using Del Ray Landscaping again!!! John McCauley Alexandria, VA

E-Tree responded almost immediately upon my request for tree removal and came by at my convenience to provide an estimate. They even responded to questions pertaining to the job during the late evening hours. Enrique was extremely professional and clearly explained what was needed to complete the job. Unlike other services, he only told me what was needed without any additional add on costs. Upon completion, they wanted to make sure that I was satisfied. They were fair and it was a pleasure working with them. I rate them an outstanding and will definitely use them again and will pass along their name to my friend and neighbors.

4-Co came out and gave me a great estimate to cut down and haul away a huge Maple tree in my front yard very near my house. They worked around my busy schedule, to set up an appointment and I didn't even have to be home while they did the work. When they came out, they did a very good job. They were careful and worked very quickly. In the end they hauled everything away and cleaned up to leave everything the way it was before they got there (minus the huge tree). If I need anything done in the future I will call them directly and highly recommend them for anyone needing tree removal.

My initial experience with Mr. Litman was when I had a tree removed from my house that had fallen during a storm. Most recently, he has been doing repairs on a rental property - including painting and removal of trash left by tenants. I am very please with his work and would recommend him to others.

Their quoted price for tree removal was nearly half of the quotes I received from others. They came in, worked very quickly and efficiently, and also pointed out some other issues we may have with other trees down the road.

Francisco and his team were truly excellent and exceptional. They weeded a large yard (almost two acres), planted several perennials, shrubs and trees, and put down mulch. They were highly professional, punctual and responsive to my needs. My yard looked incredibly better. I would definitely use them again. A real pleasure to do business with them.

Working with Beautiful Country was an all around great tree removal experience. Maynor was quick to respond via thumbtack and was able to come out quickly to provide an estimate for my tree removal. I received a confirmation call a few days before to answer any question I had. The day of the job there was a crew of 9 people to remove my trees and they did just that - including some extra work for my neighbor spur of the moment. Everything was finished in one day, the price was reasonable and the crew very hard working. I plan to use them again. Thanks Beautiful County Landscape!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
