I had a bathroom sink that was hopelessly clogged (I had tried everything). I also wanted to install a new faucet, but the bolts holding the old one were cemented to the sink by years of calcified water. Nick showed up as promised, removed the clog, no problem. The new faucet had a broken part. Nick was able to find a replacement piece at the local hardware store and finished the installation. His price was very reasonable and he could not have been more pleasant. I highly recommend any his services. You will not be disappointed. (My sister also used him and was equally pleased.)

Karim replaced a picture window in my home. He was professional, informative, and efficient. I shopped around and by far he offered the best price. He quoted one price but when he came out to do the job the price was a lot less. I would recommend Secure Glass to anyone needing window replacements.

I am very pleased with the results. I remodeled my kitchen. Several things were done - old back splash was removed and new back splash installed, over the stove microwave installed, granite countertop supports installed, painted cabinets and walls, added trim and molding to a patio door and window, etc.

I contracted Brandon Contractor LLC to complete several projects in my home, from replacing a window in the kitchen, replacing joists on the outside of the house, doing baseboards and completing glass backsplash in the kitchen, to other smaller projects. They started working soon after we contracted them and completed the work in a timely fashion. I have nothing but praise for the team, as their professionalism and promptness lead the way through each of the projects they undertook. My family and I are extremely pleased with the service and will hire Brandon Contractor (Mr. Jose, Mr. Pablo and the rest of the crew) in the future to get rid of our honey-do-list. Thank you very much Jose. It was a pleasure working with you and your crew!

We hired Erick's service for deep cleaning our house prior to listing it for sale. Previous experiences with other cleaning services have been hit or miss so we were a bit anxious, given that a good cleaning job is really important for the house to show well for sale. I cannot praise Erick's team of two women (his family in part) enough for the cleaning job they did in our house. I will give you specific examples which portray their exceptional work - 1. we recently touched up paint on the walls and a few drops probably spilled on the floor. His crew went down on the floor to scrub minute drops off while vacuuming/mopping our hardwood floor; 2. They took out the glass receptacles off the light fixtures and washed them to make them appear new (and they never were so clean when we lived in the house!). 3. They opened the windows and dusted and wiped off dirt from the outside of the window. 4. Bathrooms and kitchen with granite counter top were spotless and shiny! We believe the house shows very well to make the best impression for potential buyers. I will strongly recommend Erick and his team for cleaning services, and actually like the fact that it is a small, family run venture as opposed to the large scale cleaning services. SLV

My kitchen was old and badly in need of a face lift. Curtis came in and turned it into a beautiful and modern piece of art! I have a 13 foot island, gorgeous cabinets, new sink, window, appliances, huge pantry and floors. He was there everyday until it was done with excellent work done by him and his workers.

Windows are absolutely fantastic. They were very aggressive in their pricing. We were able to re-do all the windows in our house (19 total) and these guys were flexible enough to work within our budget. Installation was very fast and the difference in the cooling (and I'm going to assume heating in the winter) for the house was immediately noticeable. My son's room went from a heat box to perfect temperature.

Andrew is an absolute professional specializing in glass repair. He is responsive, on time, and does quality work at a fair price. He replaced several damaged window panes on our historic home - several in hard to get to places. I highly recommend him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
