We needed to get our house ready for sale. Mr. Phipps, Raymond, came to our rescue! I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of his work and the professional yet personal way he worked with my wife and I. He took the time to understand what we wanted while offering expert advise as well. He first completed extensive deck and front porch repair/construction, including replacing two sets of deck stairs, added a new porch ceiling and new deck lattice, then pressure washed and painted it all. This went so well we asked him to quote several inside jobs: he hung kitchen cabinets, made a matching refrigerator side panel & four pantry doors, installed new cabinet hardware, installed new closet shelving in 5 closets, & floor molding. This went so well we asked him to quote several other jobs inside! He exceeded our expectations at every turn, treating our house like his own. Thank you Raymond!

Trim Time was amazing. They took our idea and sketch of a built in bookcase/media cabinet and not only delivered on our hopes but vastly improved it. The way they installed the bookcase even straightened out our wall. Beautiful, quick, easy and only slightly more expensive than a pre-fabricated or store bought equivalent.

1) Opened up wall between living room & family room, installed header for support. Case trim opening, repair drywall and paint. 2) I provided a photo of an open staircase that I wanted which opened up stairwell on both sides, framed opening with columns at the bottom. They included all demo, framing, LVL load bearing beams, drywall, painting, trim, decorative spindles, and custom stained handrail. 3) Frame closed my open foyer, drywall, sub-floor, redo ceiling, install light fixtures. Estimated timeline was met. Dan kept me well informed on progress. I received multiple estimates for this project. So happy I chose Dan Wagner with On-Target Construction. I Highly recommend.

Working with Mark was a pleasure. He is dependable, competent and trustworthy. He helped me bring a 1940's house back to life, after years and years of neglect. Though it was in a sad state of disrepair, he assured me that he could transform it into something that I would feel proud of. Mark has a wide range of skills, he is a true "jack of all trades", so his depth of knowledge on a project of this scope was crucial. He started by removing 12 feet of thick bamboo growth from the back yard, then pressure washed and painted the exterior of the house. He rebuilt the existing windows, which was a very tedious and time-consuming task, and a lost art to boot. In addition, he installed guard rails around a creek on the property, to help decrease my liability as a landlord. He then moved inside the house and painted the walls, installed new vinyl flooring, sanded and refinished the original hard wood floors (they're beautiful!), installed a new bathroom cabinet, faucet and other hardware, replaced several light fixtures, installed new door locks, and new storm doors. Mark works independently and takes pride in his workmanship, so it's important to be considerate of his pace. Since he does not specialize in any one area, it naturally takes longer to organize the necessary equipment and tools than if he were subcontracting various jobs to specialist. Finally, Mark is an excellent communicator, and kept me well-informed of any set backs along the way. He has also worked with me to correct problems that neither of us noticed until the project was completed. Knowing that he stands behind his work is of particular importance, because it's hard to catch everything, even after a "final" inspection. If you are looking for someone who is knowledgeable, personable, trustworthy and fair, look no further, Mark is your man!

Todd did an amazing job on our kitchen. What started as a small job (needing a window frame replaced and the window reset) turned into Todd refacing all of our cabinets, doing a custom backsplash above our sink, and creating and installing a custom wide transition piece for our floor. Todd also replaced water damaged parts of our cabinets and fixed other assorted pre-existing problems we encountered along the way. I wish I could give him more than 5 stars!! We love our kitchen and we love everything Todd did!

My wife and I hired Mr. Kiss to build some cabinets/closets in the room over our garage and to replace the floor tile in the half bath over the garage. His suggestions concerning the project were excellent & his quote was was very reasonable. We enjoyed working with Mr. Kiss. His communication with us about the project was always timely and couldn't be more pleased with the job when completed.

I could not have asked for a better handyman. JD did a fantastic job! I had a long list of things to do which included installing cabinets and I have to say out of all the people I've worked with putting them in, he was the best. I will definitely hire him again.

Blake Dawson is the ultimate perfectionist when it comes to blending old and new cabinets and he is an incredible problem solver. I had a client with a very complicated kitchen situation wherin we needed to re-use current components and bring in new cabinetry all while making it look consistent. Blake and his incredible team of craftsmen and electricians, paid close attention to every detail. The job was completed over several weeks, which was incredible considering the scope of work completed. The home owners were so impressed with his work that they have requested him to do another small job in the office. He was on time, on budget, and a joy to work with.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
