Air Ducts Heating Cooling and Plumbing Service personnel were awesome! We had a leaking water heater on the weekend and needed it replaced as soon as possible. We hired them to install a new one and they came on Sunday morning! They were very helpful, prompt, very courteous, and extremely reasonable in price. We highly recommend this company! They will definitely be the first company we call for all of our heating, cooling and plumbing issues that may arise. Five stars for sure!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

On one of the hottest days in August the air in my home stopped working. I contacted Logan Mechanical from a referral by a friend who was also very satisfied with their service. The technician arrived as scheduled and was very professional and knowledgeable. He diagnosed the issue immediately and explained what was needed and made the necessary repairs. The price was also reasonable. I will definitely contact Logan Mechanical for all of my air and heating needs and have already recommended them to others

The company moved my boiler pipes in the basement to make way for a new exterior door. The work was fast and professional. The price was higher than I expected, however, multiple companies simply refused to do the job, at any price. The company coordinated with my remodelers, which was a great help. Again, many other HVAC companies I approached for an estimate told me that they just didn't do remodeling jobs, only repair and service. Overall, I'm glad I found David and ComfortFactor and I will keep them in mind for my future HVAC needs.

Very quick to respond, professional, friendly, and high quality service! We were very happy and will hire them again for heating/cooling needs! Our one suggestion for improvement would be to add additional payment options such as PayPal or Venmo to make it easier for landlords to pay when just tenants are present. We will still continue to use them without hesitation though for future needs!

We recommend Jim and his team very highly! His challenge was figuring out how to install a central heating and cooling system in a 1851 stable. Not only did he take on the challenge but seemed to revel in it! It was time consuming and amazingly difficult. He even took the time and made the effort to order and install special air ducts to distribute the air flow more efficiently. He returned promptly to tweak the system when we called. He's easy to work with, knowledgeable, able to work outside the box and has the integrity and work ethic it's hard to find these days. We couldn't be more pleased!

I scheduled with Aire Serv after having a home inspection and needing to fix a temperature differential. I really appreciated that they were able to make their schedule fit with mine. Andrew was actually early for the appointment so there was no waiting around. He was extremely nice and professional. He looked at my system, answered my questions, and had my system cooling properly in no time for a reasonable price. He even provided pictures with my invoice to give to the home inspector. Would definitely do business with them again! Thanks Andrew! And thank you Aire Serv!

JD was very nice and answered my questions courteously. He suggested me an alternative and cheaper ways to fix my heat pump. He also called the next day to ask if my heat pump still working. He came back when the fuse of the furnace and thermostat was blown due to change of battery to the thermostat. He fixed the problem and stayed on site to make sure the problem resolved. I will recommend his service to anybody who needs A/C repair.

I have only used Nice Home Services to replace the furnace in one rental unit. I hope to use them for other properties and services. So, I should probably reserve my comments until I have more than one experience to rate. But, they were very responsive and professional.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

    • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
    • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
    • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
    • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
    • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
    • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
    • Cleaning and oiling the blower
    • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
    • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
    • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

    • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
      • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
    • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
    • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
    • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
