Mr. Walker showed up on time with a happy disposition. He is a very pleasant gentleman and made sure the work performed met my expectations. The price was the same as quoted with no additional surprise fees which is common among many local carpet cleaners. The carpet looks fantastic! Very happy customer!!!

I would definitely recommend S & L Cleaning Service for any carpet cleaning needs! We had never had our carpet cleaned professionally before and it was a mess. We lived in a small apartment for two years with a toddler (and again, no professional cleaning), so that can speak for itself. There were multiple areas that were absolutely worn out from heavy traffic. After the gentleman left, the looked as like-new as possible! We definitely plan to make this a more frequent service. Super nice and professional, too!

Floorescent Shine completed season carpet cleaning for me. The carpet is not the best condition; however, they made it look a thousand percent better. Also, products used were not over bearing but very pleasant in scent. I will definitely use them again.

Hired this company for 2 thumbtack.com projects, a one time house cleaning (move out cleaning), and carpet steam cleaning to get my home ready for renters. They did a fantastic job on both projects! Timely, polite, professional, great attention to the details, and they paid attention to specific requests my wife had. I absolutely recommend them.

I hired Rob Altman for a landscape job that involved removing over 200 feet of old rotted fence, removing bushes, all brush and a considerable amount of trash that had been compiled for over twenty years, Rob removed the fence cleared all the bushes and brush and got a bobcat and removed all trash and debris and graded the yard so rain water would flow properly now the land look like it is part of a park minus the grass. Rob even removed the carpet and pads in the house and all this for a reasonable fair price. He kept me abreast of the progress of the work so that there would be no suprises at the end. He finished the job for the amount he quoted me. He is a good man and a most reliable worker. If you want a good job done / CALL - Rob Altman.

I like the process leaving carpet damp but not wet. Dries soft in just a few hours. Friendly and professional service. Service tech did a great job in a short amount of time. Touched by the Masters Hand has reliable, prompt service with excellent results. The prices are competitive and the follow-up is great.

We only use Absolute Chem-Dry to clean our carpets, we have been loyal customers for 8 years. Malcolm, their technician, is professional, courteous and always does an extremely thorough job. The office staff is fabulous and flexible, always willing to work with your schedule. Don't waste your money on companies that dump water into your carpet and suck it back out.

I've used Chem-Dry to clean my carpets in my house and my rentals and to clean upholstery. Oceanfront Chem-Dry always sends out a two-man team. They are dressed professionally, work quickly and smile while they do it. Carpets and couches always look terrific when they're done and for months after. Love the carpet spot cleaner too ... perfect for doggie messes.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How do you find a good carpet cleaning company?

Regular professional carpet cleaning can both extend the life of your carpet and remove harmful pollutants from your home. Finding a good carpet cleaning company is an important aspect of home maintenance. When choosing a carpet cleaner, consider these top three questions:

  • What method of carpet cleaning do you prefer? Steam cleaning is an increasingly popular method because it’s thorough and safe, and dries quickly enough for you to return to your home the same day the carpets are cleaned.
  • Have you checked the company’s references? Most cities are home to several carpet cleaning companies, so it’s a good idea to check their reviews and references. Look for references from people in your neighborhood with homes similar to yours.
  • What’s included in the base price? What other services does the carpet cleaning company offer? Some companies will move furniture for you, while others charge a fee for it. Some include stairs in the cost of the home’s cleaning, while others charge per step.

What does carpet cleaning cost?

National average carpet cleaning prices range between $100 and $130. Carpet cleaning prices depend on how many square feet of carpet you want cleaned, how many rooms in one house or building will be cleaned, how stained your carpet is, how much the carpet cleaning company charges, your ZIP code, and the type of carpet you have. Cost per square foot can range from 20 cents to $1 or more, based on the above variables. Synthetic carpets are typically the least expensive to clean; natural fibers like wool cost more, as they require more care and attention, as well as more drying time. Excessive stains, challenging locations such as stairs, and accessibility also factor into your carpet cleaning price. Companies may charge a minimum service fee for cleaning a small carpet to cover their business expenses (paying employees, transporting the special equipment to your home). If your pet has repeatedly saturated the carpet with urine or if the fibers are extremely matted down, it may make more sense to completely replace your carpet than to continue to have it cleaned.
