I have worked with many "handymen", contractors, builders in Richmond and Tony Tan, by far, has been the most responsive and skilled of all of them. I completely recommend him and will definitely use his services again. He made a multitude of repairs on a rental property to get ready for a new tenant as well as a property going to sale in just a few days.

Gustavo repaired a toilet that is original to our house of 40 plus years. He arrived promptly and let us know that if it were not possible to remove the bolts it would be less expensive to replace the toilet. Fortunately he was able to take care of the problem so that we won't need to replace this toilet until we are ready to do a bathroom renovation. He also replaced the water valve to the toilet. We felt his fee for the time he spent with us was very reasonable. Gustavo is friendly, professional, very efficient and clearly knows his plumbing. We understand he does other work including electrical and painting, and we plan to let him do some other jobs we have been putting off. I definitely recommend Gustavo - at least for the type of job work he did for us.

Reliable service. General painting was good but missed some sides of deck pickets and parts of rails. Maybe more of a complex job than he quoted but he should have told me after powerwashing . I would have paid for it. Nice guy all around. Worked hard.

Mr Slava has worked on several projects for us (bathroom remodel, painting, tile work, backsplash tile) and did an EXCEPTIONAL job! He is very professional, efficient (less talking more working kind of guy) and detail oriented. He takes an ownership of his work. If you want a perfectionist contractor (yes, they exist), he is the one to be hired!

Nilson and his crew, simply put, have been phenomenal! I engaged them primarily for exterior paint and replacement of rotting Masonite siding and trims but was so impressed with their work ethics, skills, speed, and timely completion that I extended the contract for many other projects ranging from interior painting, gutter repairs, replacement of the entry door, and many more. They didn't fail to deliver on every project! All this for very reasonable price! Specially commendable is their timely response to my initial inquiry on Thumbtack, keeping lines of communication open throughout the engagement, always following through their commitments. Very courteous crew and went above and beyond my expectations on every project. I will highly recommend them for any big or small project.

These guys are fantastic! I didn’t know that contractors could be this good. I took their card, excited about who I had just found and then revealed they only do this part-time. I’m not kidding folks, this is one of the top 2 contractors in RVA.

I am very satisfied with my experience with Peacock Nationwide Painting Contractors and, in particular, owner Paul Hill. I received several quotes for the project, and Paul offered to come by that night to give me as accurate an estimate as possible. He came over promptly, beat the best quote I'd gotten online and was excited to get the project started. Because I was also eager to get going, it was refreshing that Paul and his team were just ready to go. I picked the colors, and he did everything else. I was concerned about picking up paints because I certainly didn't know how much to get and whether it should be flat or eggshell. I deferred to professional opinion, and I've been extremely happy with the results. My condo was painted in under a week's time - more than 850 square feet with 9 foot ceilings and some challenging details in an older, historic home. Paul and his helpers worked systematically yet carefully - I never felt it was rushed or done sloppily. Instead, I trusted Paul in my home (which is a big deal!) getting the job done - sometimes working around my dogs as they insisted on enthusiastic greetings for our guests after being in their kennels. In sum, the work was expedient, professional, extremely well done, affordable and exactly right. Paul came back by the following day to touch up on any area that may need it - and his lines were pretty much perfection so there wasn't much left to do at all. But he dotted every I and crossed every T, leaving the place in pretty much perfect shape. I've already recommended the services of Peacock Nationwide to a friend, and I wouldn't hesitate to reach out again for future projects in my own home.

Jason Bond was professional and honest throughout the entire process, from bid to completion of job. Other contractors tried to have us replace items that were fixable at half the cost. Highly recommend.

Called several contractors and only 3 responded in a timely fashion. Rohr Development responded quickly, gave a fair estimate and showed up on time everyday. The project was entire repaint of an occupied house. I have recommended them to family and friends and they tell me they are great to work with.

I interviewed and received quotes from at least 10 different contractors. it was a nightmare!! Doug is a breath of fresh air in the contractor madness. He is VERY responsive and gets the job done quick and effective. First off his original quote was incredibly reasonable. Then when we found mold and several other obstacles along the way. again his prices was reasonable and the job was done quickly. He was sensitive to our household needs and i could always count on his responsiveness to my calls or text messages. And of course his work speaks for itself. we could not be happier with the jobs he performed and will definitely be using him in the future with all of our household needs. Do yourself a favor and hire Doug. I have done the research for you, there really isn't a better or more fair contractor on the peninsula.

I chose Construction Walls to paint the exterior of our home and I am beyond impressed by their quality and craftsmanship. I am a very picky person who likes things to be done right the first time and after meeting with Jorge I knew that he also shared my passion for attention to detail and quality work. Jorge and his crew did an exceptional job on our home and we could not be happier. Jorge and his crew are professionals with extensive knowledge, attention to detail and were a pleasure to work with. The price was reasonable and the attention to detail and quality was exceptional. I will be hiring them again for other jobs and highly recommend them.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

      • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
      • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
      • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
      • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
      • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
      • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
