- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My father is a General Contractor so I grew up in a construction and carpentry environment. Prior to attending college I interned for a family friend and Architect to learn the basics. He taught me how to and what to measure on site as well as contribute to the overall design process. While in college at Savannah College of Art and Design, studying to become an Architect, I took it upon myself to do some remote freelance and received my first approved building permit in 2004 for a client that lived in Prince William County, Virginia. During college breaks I continued to intern with my father and family friend Architect. I also interned at an Architecture for Interiors firm in Baltimore, Maryland and worked on various projects including retail, hotel, and restaurant interiors. After receiving my masters in Architecture and Bachelors in Fine Arts, I worked for a 200+ firm in Old Town Alexandria, that focused on healthcare, science and technology, and government buildings. I continued to learn as I prepared for obtaining an architectural license through a series of exams. I also attended various volunteer events with Rebuild Alexandria, CANStruction, One Brick, and then grew more interested in residential construction. I took it upon myself to take on freelance work again and have since had the opportunity to obtain several building permits in City of Alexandria, Fairfax County, and Arlington County.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
At the age of nine my father and I built a 1/4" scaled model of the Monticello by Thomas Jefferson. I fell in love with the model building and long hours of problem solving. Once I started to learn more my interest and passion for design just kept growing.
