- How did you get started doing this type of work?
After doing backyard BBQ for several years, friends and family suggested that we try doing some catering, which we did and now it's a full-time job.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I'm still surprised by the types of events we do, as a BBQ caterer. The only common theme is the BBQ itself. We've done just about every type of party; Birthdays, Graduations, pool parties, wedding, rehearsal, bridal showers, baby showers, bachelor & bachelorette parties. Repasts (funeral) meals, memorials, poker parties, high school team parties, corporate lunches and even some In-flight catering for a private jet.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Try to sample the food before you hire a caterer. Most of the good ones will arrange for a tasting, even if it's an impromptu type of thing. If you can't do that, then ask around about the food. The best caterer is typically not the cheapest, but also not the most expensive.
