Hattie went above and beyond! Dog of elderly woman hadn't been groomed or seen by vet in probably years. Hattie was originally going to groom in the home, but I was worried about anxiety of owner, so she agreed to pick up dog, groom in her salon and bring back. She didn't ask for any increase in price. Dog had swelling, long nails, irritation in sensitive areas. The grooming took much longer than anticipated. I was the one who suggested a higher price -- only seemed fair for all the time she put into making the dog handsome as he can be. Highly recommend her!

This is my first time ever using Thumbtack and I was a little bit skeptical, but I went ahead and booked Stef's cat sitting service as her reviews seem to be very good. At first, I booked basic cat visiting service. However, just the day before the trip, my cat got an abscess burst. I had to take her to the vet and requested some extra services from Stef, but she was very accommodating. My cat seems very happy when I'm back home, food, water and litter pan well taken care of. Stef sent me messages everyday to update me on my cat's condition. Plus points in Stef's services: responsiveness and quality. She did everything to make sure my requests are fulfilled. I can't thank her enough for putting my mind at ease while being away and my cat was sick. Overall five star service!

Almost as soon as I posted on Thumbtack, she responded. I called her and we talked about the dog, my concerns, special needs, etc. She told me she had 12 years experience as a Vet Tech and at least 7 years of grooming. She was very knowledgeable and put me at ease. We set up an appointment for 4 days later. She was on time, worked well with my dog, and she looked good afterward. The most important is that my dog was not upset and seemed happy. The cost was the same price that I had been paying for mobile grooming. I set up appointments for a year and did that per email with a prompt reply. I am very happy with Danielle.

Superb group of caring professionals! Run My Dog has helped me with everything from feeding my cat while I was gone to assisting me with my dog after an emergency vet visit. Robbyn and her team are very accommodating and just seem to really enjoy being with the animals. They give great updates after the walk (sometimes I even get pictures), use positive reinforcement and will even pay close attention to any special training techniques I may be using. My Truman can be quite hyper but I always get positive feedback, and, I feel like special attention is paid to his needs. They are flexible, kind and caring and would recommend Run My Dog to anyone needing this kind of service.

My two kitties were well taken care of during my vacation. One was a bit sick and under the weather when I had to depart, but since Shatiya is a vet tech I felt comfortable leaving him in her care. She sent daily updates and usually included photos as well. A few small things were overlooked, like leaving my A/C on full blast when no one was home, but overall a very good experience!

Kelly is amazing! My dog does not like to be groomed and prior to finding Kelly our only option was to fully sedate her and shave her once a year. I explained this to Kelly and asked that she come to meet my dog. She stopped by and my dog quickly came up to her and let Kelly pet her and even licked her a few times. Kelly was able to bathe, dry, and give her the cutest cut. I was astonished that she was able to groom my dog. I thought my only resort to grooming my dog was to take her to the vet to be sedated. Not anymore! Kelly is a miracle worker and she is officially the only person who will groom my dog.

Riding at Morning Mist was awesome. I took lessons with Nancy for about a year and enjoyed every minute of it. The farm is nice and maintained well. She doesn't just teach how to ride, but also grooming and care for the horses. Her horses and ponies are all very well trained and a joy to work with. This was my first experience learning to ride and Nancy took her time and was very patient with me. She taught and coached me when needed and figured out that at some points I have to be given time to learn on my own. Overall this was a very rewarding experience and I would recommend Morning Mist Farm and Nancy to anyone interested in learning english riding from beginner to advanced.

Your Virginia Pets is the best sitting/walking service ever. They responsibly walk and play with our dogs. They even made emergency vet visits for us when we were out of town and one of our dogs developed pancreatitis (and cleaned her and her crate up with no complaints). Every person sitting and walking for Joe is a dog lover and we trust each of them to take care of our dogs. Can't recommend highly enough.

I have my cat Caiti that I bring to Belquest any time I go out of town. I trust the employees there that they will do an incredible job of looking after my cat and seeing to all her needs. Their care for my pet is absolutely amazing and whenever I bump into the staff in public they always ask how she is doing. I could not have been more blessed to find a more caring, compassionate and professional organization then Belquest Kennels. I would recommend them to anyone I know.

C-Pup has been walking my dog for over 2 years, and I have been very pleased with their service. They employ a number of different dog walkers, but send the same person to my house day after day, which is good because my dog becomes familiar with that person. In fact, he looks forward to her coming. Not only is she well-acquainted with my dog but she has also learned the "routine" at my house -- where everything is at; how to turn on/off the alarm system; where extra dog treats and towels are located. Also, she leaves a report card every day telling me how her visit went, where they walked, etc. In addition, C-Pup has made helpful suggestions regarding dog products that I didn't know existed -- for example, they told me about a new cone to prevent licking that enabled me to avoid another costly trip to the vet. All-in-all, C-Pup is terrific!

Michelle is very patient and very knowledgeable and there to help you learn! The class is fun, and great bonding time for you and your dog. She is also great about having families attend the classes together so everyone "speaks the same language." I work with rescue dogs and Michelle answered lots of questions that helped me deal with some of the strange behaviors we see. Highly recommended!

Feeling most appreciative and pleased ! Amy kindly arranged for her associate to come to our place and help clip dear old, big boy kitty's nails (so don't have to drag him to vet just for this or keep burdening friends to help). We had our first session today, and Amy's associate Divya was great ! Flexible, professional, prompt, clearly experienced w/ cats, affectionate w/ my kitty; calm/composed and therefore calming for my cat (and me), very personable and pleasant. I'm grateful to her-- and to Amy -- and look forward to working w/ them again (and again). =^..^=

Jake took care of our cats for a week while we were on vacation and did a great job. He was very thorough before we left, coming over to meet the animals, see where everything was located, including the cat crates were and the vet in case of an emergency. He took time to get acquainted with the animals ahead of time; when we were gone, he emailed us regularly to let us know how the cats were doing. Great service, conscientious, excellent quality work, and the cats loved him.

Gray is dedicated, knowledgeable, and very trustworthy. Being a vet and having an older dog with a few chronic medical concerns, it was really important to leave her with someone I trust completely. Gray has never let me down and I know my dog is always in good hands with her. It's always comforting when Kota is excited to arrive at Gray's house for the weekend. I'd highly recommend her.

The staff at Reserved Barking are the best. They are very gentle and caring with the dogs. The dogs interact with each other all day and are not penned up. The fact that the dogs go outside for breaks is important. I have been to other facilities and they are not as clean and nice as Reserved Barking. Pineapple somehow knows when he is going to dogcare; he gets very excited and stands next to the car waiting. Pineapple is always very tired after a day at Reserved Barking. Also they have grooming services. Pineapple is a Maltese and we receive many compliments on his cut, even the Vet called me after a visit to inquire where I had him groomed because she received so many questions.

Daniel is not only outstanding at what he does as a dog trainer but he's passionate about the animals. Daniel trained my 90lb boy, as well as me. Prior to Daniel my confidence level was low with such a big and strong dog (and this was after having training from another private trainer). I worried about walking my dog and taking him to the vet. Thankfully my dog has never shown aggressive behavior -- my fear/concern was due of his size and strength. Daniel successfully trained me on becoming the alpha and I now have a great owner/dog relationship. Daniel even met me at the vet's office once to help me overcome my worry. I've now been to the vet's office with my dog multiple times on my own and we take regular walks on the bike path. Although the training has finished, Daniel is still available to me 24/7 and is always responsive because he wants to see success all the way around. If you're looking for someone who understands animals, is able to read animals, is confident and compassionate about his work I highly recommend Daniel and Loudoung K9.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

        • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
        • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
        • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
        • What are your different walk routes?
        • When will you pick up and drop off?
        • How will we communicate?
        • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
        • What’s your cancellation policy?
        • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
        • How and how often do I pay you?
        • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

        What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

        What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

        • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
        • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
        • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
        • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
        • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
        • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
