Sean installed beautiful dark laminate floors in my home and I absolutely love them! He's super nice and even when I had to push my project back he still stuck to his price and was very happy to do my floors. I look forward to working with him on future projects! Thanks again Sean! 😊

The job required installation of several floor cabinets in a kitchen. On one side the cabinets were raised off the floor, mounted away from the wall, and a butcher block counter top cut and installed. On the other, sink side, a cabinet was installed and all cabinets on that wall were leveled to allow for installation of a counter top. The individual doing the job provided ideas on how to proceed and worked quickly to provide a quality product. He was willing to work around the clock to complete the installation and worked continuously while on site. I trust his judgement and his work ethic is above reproach. I would certainly recommend him for any job you may have.

After a water event, Lee assisted with the repairs by completing the final details such as: Sheetrock finishing, painting, baseboard installation, and commercial carpet square replacement. He was courteous, on-time, and able to work with our requirement that the project be completed over 1 weekend.

We had attic/chimney work, lighting and drywall done. Mr. Noblin was efficient, courteous and professional. His work exceeded our expectations. He showed up when he said he would and detailed what he would do before and during the job. We will call on his company again for other work and highly recommend him.

Don and his team were amazing. I needed to have my laminate floors replaced prior to my stuff being delivered to my recently-purchased home. I was concerned about finding an honest, professional, and capable flooring guy without a personal recommendation. I read all of Don's amazingly good reviews (much like this one), which convinced me to take the chance. I hope this review convinces you to take the chance if you are on the fence. They were able to work around my schedule to make things happen overnight. Within days, the project was complete and I couldn't be more satisfied. He and his entire team were polite, considerate, and respectful of my home, leaving nothing but a great new floor. Don even made some suggestions for what might be a better option than what I had planned without up selling me or trying to persuade me to spend more. As I do more home projects, I will definitely keep Cavelier Enterprises in mind and would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat.

Chris and his crew did a fantastic job. This project has been a headache from the beginning but Chris told me not worry and he would take care of the flooring and that exactly what he did. He kept me updated and answered all my questions. He is very knowledgeable in his trade and I’m 100% satisfied with his work and I recommend choosing Jones & Company for your flooring project.

If you have time to spend then he is a great value. It took 3 days for a 400sq ft hardwood install, but the quality was good.

H&F came into my home to do a laminate, floating floor at the last minute when another contractor dropped the ball. They were punctual, neat, professional, and courteous. They stayed late to make sure the job was finished, cleaned up after themselves and were extremely reasonably priced. They did such good work that we asked them to do another flooring job that we originally had not planned to do. We would highly recommend them and would use them again ourselves.

Mr. Parks has done contracting work on both my personal residence and rental property for over thirty years. His skill set includes finish carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, sheet rock, bath and kitchen renovation, tile, flooring, roofing repairs, siding installation and many others. His can do attitude always gets the job done correctly, on time, and on budget at a reasonable price. I recommend him highly.

Overall I am satisfied with the outcome of the flooring, however the customer experience portion left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I was getting bamboo flooring installed and had several questions about things suggested by the manufacturer and that I had read online (i.e. acclimation time.) I found Mr. Moore to be very condescending and rude. Everytime I asked a question about the flooring and the things I had read, he rolled his eyes, talked down to me, and made me very uncomfortable. He seemed to be very irritated throughout the job. I have no complaints about the workmanship, but people skills and customer appreciation could use improvement.

Jessica was fantastic - great communication, on time for estimate. Contractor showed up on time - job estimated at 3 days, took 4 (day 1 - 4 hours, day 2 -7 hours, day 3 - 6 hours, day 4 -3 hours). Thought they could have worked longer on day 1 and would have finished on time. Weather prevented them from finishing on the 3rd day. (Jessica supposed to provide me with extra tile and grout - still waiting, but confident I will get it). Overall good experience.

Four years ago, I hired Larson’s Flooring to install 400 sq feet of ceramic tile in my beach house. I was blown away with the results! From the deal he gave me, the level of professionalism, and how absolutely beautiful my kitchen turned out, I wouldn’t recommend anyone else!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
