I have used Andrea for dog walks and day sitting for the last few months. She is wonderful!! She is flexible with last minute needs/changes. Also, picks up or drops off, which is a huge help when you are working a long day! I never worry that Zoe isn't getting the best love and care!

Candy is an excellent dog sitter, I was so impressed! She is very knowledgeable about dog care and clearly cares about the dog she is entrusted with. My dog is not as easy-going as some but she approached him so well and I was very impressed with her. She sent updates regularly, which were so funny and caring, I knew my dog was in good hands. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a dog sitter! Thank you, Candy!

Megan watched our deaf Great Dane Alice Gertrude for a week when we went to the beach. We rescued Alice Gertrude in February of 2015 and we didn't want to board her so soon. Megan watched our other Dane Magi and we knew she would be perfect for our Alice Gertrude. Megan stayed at our house for a week and took awesome care of our girl. Alice immediately loved Megan and they were best pals after 10 minutes. Megan embraced our Dane's "quirky" behaviors...sleeping horizontally, laying on her chest (Alice thinks she is a "lap dog"!!), & being the best leg-dryer after a shower! Megan is wonderful. ..always let us know how Alice Gertrude was doing, plenty of walks, lots of playtime, and I'm pretty sure an "extra treat" when Alice "blinked her baby blues" @ Megan. Megan is honest, trustworthy, dependable, & most importantly, will love, take care, & treat your pet like you do. Please consider Megan for caring for your 4-legged babies!! You will not be disappointed! ! Sincerely, Mark, Kendra, Parker, Sydney, & Alice Gertrude Brandt

Rachel and her husband did a great job taking care of our two dogs while we were gone for over a week. I wasn't worried about them at all and Rachel sent me texts or emails every day to let me know all was well. I would highly recommend her services.

I have used Dawn to watch our two dogs for 5 years now and she is wonderful with them. They are excited to see her and I can relax when I have to go out of town. One of my dogs is very anxious and she handles his condition beautifully. They could not be in better hands. She is very reliable and goes above and beyond e.g. meeting us at the Vet to assist when there was an emergency.

I recommend Run Poochie Run for anyone who knows their pets aren't pets but are family. Sterlin was not only professional and knowledgeable but I knew at our first meeting that he was someone I could leave my dog with.

She actually worked with my dog, took the time to find out what needed to be done, what he responded to more and he actually learned from. Definitely recommend to everyone!

I'm 24 years old and looking to walk some dogs. I love animals and would love too pursue more work for them.

I have always been a sincere lover of all animals, especially dogs. They have always taken to me extremely well. I seem to be able to talk their language.

I am trying to become a dog groomer and get people to let me try on more animals. See how much I like it to see if that's what I really enjoy!

I make my business great by taking the time out my day to spend time with the creatures God has made! I love dogs! Dogs are my specialty. I wash, clean, and walk dogs.

I have a dog of my own and have had him almost 10 years, so I know exactly what goes into caring for a dog.

My work stands out from the rest because I strive for perfection in everything I do. If the job is done and I see something I don't like, I will redo it. What I like the most about my job is the moment after everything is all done, being able to see what I've accomplished and the changes I've made and how that effects people. I love fixing & cleaning up old things, and making them look brand new.

I love animals and all animals love me. I can take care of them properly and they will have a good walk.

We are well-rounded women who are very passionate for the care of others, and we will do duties necessary for the job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
