Tony and his crew renovated my entire full bathroom, kitchen, half bath, and exterior studio workspace. Their work included plumbing, electrical, insulation, sheetrock, tile, hardwood floor refinishing, cabinetry assembly and install, and new floor install. I initially hired Tony for a much smaller scope of work but once he signed up over a month ago I don't think he has missed a single day of work at my home except for one or two Sundays. His work ethic is unparalleled but more importantly, his "can-do" attitude was always positive and professional. I repeatedly had him fix the mistakes of other workers I had hired. He never complained - he just politely informed me that he would "take care of it", often at no extra charge. My job changed multiple times but my price with Tony stayed the same. He reminded me several times that he wasn't the type to "nickel and dime" his clients and that he was more invested in building relationships with satisfied customers. Of all the people I had working in my home Tony is the only one I would not hesitate to call back or recommend to friends. The one note I would add is that I felt most at ease when it was Tony himself doing the actual work. He is the lead contractor because of his attention to detail. I know that if he comes into my space to work he will leave it clean. There is a reason why Tony has so many glowing reviews on Thumbtack. He is competent, quick, and will get your job done for an extremely fair price. Moreover, he (and his crew) are just kind and professional people that really do their absolute best to get your job done right.

John did a great job doing a number of varied projects including hanging a large, heavy mirror and TV. He also masterfully installed another TV into a complicated piece of furniture. I would certainly recommend him to anyone.

John was first to call me which for me is always a good sign. He gave me a quote and it was very reasonable and lower than other quotes. I hired him and asked if he was available the next day and he was and said it would be 10AM. John and Bobby arrived on time. They were to fix two bedroom dressers. One of the dressers was a new dresser from overstock and those drawers wouldn't stay on the slides and drawers would fall out. IT was in bad shape. They knew what the problem was and and fixed both dressers. I am very very pleased with their knowledge and experience and needless to say, I am a happy camper!!! Great job, Bobby and John from nooks and crannies. P.S. dont order furniture from the Sandberg company!!! poor quality.

He was on time, cleaned very well, very satisfactory. They did not move any furniture, so for a 93 year old, that was her challenge. Thank you for. Great job.

Al George managed to get 2 wool carpets a couch and chair cleaner than I ever imagined. He took several hours to clean the furniture, cleaned up after himself and delivered the carpets when he said he would. I would recommend Al George to clean anyone's furniture or carpets.

We hired Spectrum to clean carpets and a sectional/love chair in our home. We've had terrible experiences with carpet cleaning companies in the past and were hoping to find someone new who could actually live up to what they claim they can do. Spectrum is legit!!! We had such a pleasant experience from the very first time we called them to the time they finished the job and followed up with us the next day. Their customer service is amazing and their work is as equally amazing! No high pressured sales or devious tactics- the price was exactly what they told us it would be. Shaun is great! So polite and personable and funny! He did an excellent job tackling the carpets and furniture and he didn't miss a single corner or detail (believe me, we went back and checked). He even took the extra time to hit an area rug for us that our dog had peed on the night before. Our carpets and furniture look and smell great! We will definitely be hiring Spectrum for our future carpet cleaning needs and we're also recommending him to a number of our friends, family, and neighbors. You won't be disappointed!

Mr. Barrett' refurbished a dresser that has been in our family for over a hundred years. It was so dark you couldn't see the grain. Today it is stunning how beautiful it is! Mark's work is the highest quality reflecting his love of wood and his knowledge of his trade. He came over on the same day we called to see it & confirm his quote. Mark also researched our piece and told us more than we knew about its history! He is punctual, professional and gave us a good price for the project. We were so pleased we gave him 3 more pieces in the set to restore! He's a jewel!

We had the pleasure of working with Boris on two projects. First, we had Boris create a custom storage solution in our playroom to accommodate our children’s books, toys and stuffed animals. A combination of my design vision and Boris’ advanced skill and knowledge, culminated with the absolutely perfect piece of custom furniture. Furthermore, Boris, took an enormous amount of time and care in the installation, diligently working to ensure the piece was secure and safe. We were so pleased with the playroom project, that we then hired Boris to install crown molding in our master bedroom. Boris skillfully installed the moldings, effortlessly navigating many different corners and angles. The end product was truly beautiful. Boris endured record-breaking heat, a terrible thunderstorm and countless trips up and down all of our stairs always maintaining a smile. The combination of his wonderful craftsmanship, attention to detail and perpetually pleasant mood, would undoubtedly have me recommend him to friends and family.

Corbin and mike showed up on time and quickly got to work. They removed all of my furniture from my front room and rec room and put the furniture back exactly as they found it. They steam cleaned my carpets and removed a lot of stains. They also deodorized and the rooms smelled clean. I would highly recommend them. Thank you Katherine

Damon Berry demo'ed my old kitchen and installed an entire Ikea kitchen in our home, helping me with my plans right down to putting in the backsplash. He was very meticulous, with extreme attention to detail, thinking about every little thing, including taking my height into consideration when installing my wall oven and microwave. I would hire him again for any remodeling job I may have in a New York minute! I would not hesitate to recommend him to any of my friends and family!

Refinishing Furniture started out as just a hobby until I realized it satisfied all of my criteria of a perfect career. It allows me to provide a service to my customers that not only allows them to save money but also give them the satisfaction of knowing that they now have a custom piece of furniture that you cannot find at stores and looks perfect in their home.

My shop loves "mixing yesterday with tomorrow", giving new life to older pieces of furniture. I mix antiques with modern-day pieces. I use iron planters for beverage carts, bringing them inside to use in a kitchen, bathroom or laundry area. I also use old window frames and make bulletin boards with them (Burlap).

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

Who cleans couches?

Even if your furniture doesn’t appear dirty or stained, your couches are collecting just as much dust, pollen, germs, pet hair and dander, and even food crumbs as your carpets. In general, the same professionals who clean your carpets and drapes can also clean your couches. Carpet cleaners usually offer upholstery cleaning services as well, and may offer a discount if you have your carpets cleaned at the same time. Alternatively, you can choose from a range of professional upholstery cleaners in your area who specialize in cleaning different types of upholstery fabrics, including delicate antique fabrics and other hard-to-clean materials such as suede. In addition to deep-cleaning the entire piece of furniture, sofa cleaners can spot-treat food, pet, and oil and grease stains. Most professionals also offer services to sanitize and deodorize your furniture and apply protectants to prevent future stains. As with carpets, experts recommend that you have your upholstered furniture cleaned once every year or two, depending on how much use it gets and whether you have children and pets.

How much does upholstery cleaning cost?

The cost to have your upholstered furniture cleaned depends mostly on two factors: the size of the furniture and the type of fabric. The national average cost of upholstery cleaning ranges from $120 to $150. Most people have multiple pieces cleaned at once, but sofa cleaners will come to your home for just one heavily soiled couch or to spot-treat stains. The smaller the furniture, the lower the cost: A lounge chair may cost an average of $50 to clean, while a couch costs an average of $135 and an L-shaped sectional costs an average of $190. Delicate materials such as antique fabrics or suede upholstery are more expensive to clean than sturdier ones. Having the sofa cleaner do repairs will also add to the cost. Repairs such as mending a tear in fabric or patching a hole in leather may be charged by the task or by the hour; in general, repairs cost an average of $15 each. Special or delicate fabrics may cost additional fees, too.
