I worked with Lubbi Saed, who arrived right on time and got right to work with me. She listened and really heard me, understood immediately exactly what I'm trying to achieve, and made excellent suggestions. She is knowledgeable and professional, and offered before I even asked that home design is her passion and loves to help clients feel comfortable, uplifted and inspired in their homes. She exceeded my expectations and I'm thrilled that I found this company.

Patrick built a custom cabinet for our bathroom that is a great match for the other cabinets in our home -- down to the door panels and stain color. He was a joy to work with and did a beautiful job of cabinet making. He listened well to what we wanted, made great suggestions of his own, and the final product could not be nicer. Thank goodness! Our bathroom is small and I needed the extra storage space -- now I have ample space that's beautiful as well. I would not hesitate to work with him again.

Working with Anne on my redesigning my home has been absolutely wonderful! She is certainly creative and passionate about what she does. She is enthusiastic, detail orientated, and dependable. She took the time to understand my family's style, as well as what would make sense (and be functional!) in a 5 person household. She took several pieces of traditional furniture we already owned and incorporated them with new modern pieces to create a fresh and inviting look throughout my home. She helped us select a color palette, furniture, and decor based on my eclectic style. As an added bonus, which allowed us to stay under budget, she was able to find reasonably priced furniture and accessories, and to create framed and matted artwork, based on our family's interests. She focused on creating a home that was beautiful, personal, and best of all, affordable! Anne was wonderful and I will definitely be recommending her to everyone I know, as well as using her in any future projects! A+++

Duarte Decor, LLC was worth the experience. They were able to make my vision come to life. I was pleased with the service provided and would recommend them to anyone. They were diligent in providing good service and I was more than pleased with the outcome. Not only did they bring to life my vision, but I connected with the selected pieces which, when paired with the color scheme, resulted in what I would say is a vision to behold literally. Thank you Duarte Decor.

Deanna was awesome. She helped us decorate our entire house when we first moved in from designing curtains to color coordinating furniture. Best of all she worked with pieces we had and didn't try to sell us stuff we didn't need. I highly recommend her! Our house looks great.

Leslie walked through my home, listened to my ideas and pointed me in the right direction with paint colors, rug choices and window treatments. I was impressed with her designer knowledge and her willingness to share ideas that extended beyond the current project. I have a new perspective on interior decorating as a result of working with Leslie.

I've worked with Julie on a number of projects in my home, starting with choosing paint color and area rugs and most recently having her design our baby nursery. We didn't change a thing when Baby2 came, we love every inch of the space she created! I highly recommend Julie, no matter how big or small the project!

We needed a master bathroom and was referred to Erica by a friend. She helped us design, choose colors and managed the entire job. She was able to negotiate with contractors and we paid less than quoted by another company. The bathroom is more than I had hoped for and Erica was wonderful to work with!

Chelsea was extremely easy to work with and tried very hard to meet our desires. She arrived with multiple paint color options for our family room/kitchen and we were able to decide on final colors in less than 2 hours. She offers wonderful ideas and really makes the experience enjoyable.

My daughter had just went away to college and her room was empty. Every time I walked by it made me a little sad that my baby had left to be on her own. Anyway, I wanted to do something with the room....a friend told me about Tiffany from Admirable Impressions....she said she specialized in luxury closets and home offices. I've aways seen and wanted one of those big beautiful closets but I always assumed the home had to be built with them. I set up a consultation with Admirable Impressions and in 7 days they submitted the 3D Design and floor plan of my new dressing room/luxury closet. I was so excited! Tiffany even managed the project for me so that I didn't have to leave work to get the deliveries etc. It's absolutely beautiful and my new closet is my and my daughter's favorite room in the house. BOOK THEM NOW.

I have worked with Shanni in several areas in the past and have only positive things to say. She can do anything with paint and prved this as our extremely knowledge property manager that used what she called a "hobby" to stage, design and pick perfect colors to help us get our house sold quickly, desite knowing she would no longer be our property manager. She is a great human who is always professional and likes doing what she is doing in this field, hobby or not she is very very good and her website does nit show any of her most recent work which is her BEST STUFF. Amazing to watch this grl grow artistically year after year!

Recently, it has been obvious that so many of us are looking for direction in our personal and work lives and that the obvious training we have as Life Coaches is not always the best form to assist. I have found in having conversations with my clients, we can come to a format that not only addresses the challenges we all have but we can through objectivity and questions have you find the answers you so desire. My formal certification in the Black Hat School of Feng Shui (orientation from the front door) since 1996 gives you a unique perspective unfound in other coaching methods to add supportive, balanced and powerful environments that assist you as well in commercial and personal spaces with color, placement and light. As a marketing professional and certified life coach, feng shui adds a tremendous dynamic for reaching goals with strategies addressing your surroundings with your personal objectives. My clients are always exceptionally pleased and surprised by feng shui's effectiveness, and my commercial clients find their businesses and properties needing enhancement or to be sold attract the best customers, tenants and buyers. Services include on-site consulting and assistance in creating change through interior design, purchases and placement and on-line phone conversations that leave subjectivity and enter objectivity. Packages available to include special services. I bring enthusiasm and intuitive skills beyond feng shui training to include interpretation of the 9 Star Ki for additional personal dynamics in the household or office, and better attunement for feng shui purposes. The 9 Star Ki is often a stand-alone service referred by me as the Myers-Briggs of Feng Shui, and my clients love the information to help them understand others' behavior and make better decisions in working with others. Feng Shui is everywhere and in everything. There is not one aspect of life where the essence of feng shui cannot be incorporated for success, health, relationships, balance and harmony.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
