I worked for Marcus as an independent on a specific job for a lawfirm. Although I only met Marcus Sr. Once, I worked with Jr. (Good kid) & the project manager/sales guy; Nick/Paul. Nick is the most unorganized, unprofessional & uncaring individual I've ever worked with! Came to work with what he slept in (plaid shorts,a tee & flip flops. High as hell on weed & unable to stick with an original, cost effective, proactive organized plan. He left the customers items out in the open (legal papers with clients personal info) elements unsecured for more than one night. Much more than that occurred as well as he changed the rate of pay at the end of the job from what was agreed upon & said Sue him if we didn't like it! $55 a day 6hrs to move over thousands of file folder boxes! Oh & I used my Dolly's & hand truck because he didn't have any tools for the job other than a truck & driver and was not there to supervise! The clients logistic man said they were not going to pay for the lack of pro service & breach of contract! I would not hire SOUTHSIDE MOVING & STORAGE as long as NICK/Paul & his aiding & abetting wife are employed there! InsideMan

Despite other positive reviews, absolutely DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY AT ALL. EVER. Huge waste of money and time. They sent two high school age children to handle the move! High school students, completely inexperienced in properly taking care of furniture. Not only did their movers arrive late, they took half of the entire day to my things moved to the new location (7 mins away). Paintings were ruined (pierced in the middle), stained my furniture, didn't bring materials to wrap the couch before they took it to the new location, charged me extra because they took longer than planned, and the amount that I authorized them to pay, they took more off of my card. After repeated phone calls and emails, I still haven't received any response or compensation for my damage. You cannot run a business this way. Seriously, heed this advice. Do NOT use this company. You will regret it. I assure you.

Only reason I gave one star was because Cody and Glenn were great. Unfortunately, the job was seriously understaffed and under-supported by Southside management. Sending two guys to move a 5 bedroom house and then expecting them to load up, get weighed and move 3 hours to Charlottesville, unload and head back to Virginia Beach on the same day was crazy. Appeals to management to get them more help or allow them to get a hotel and unload the next day were ignored. Numerous federal and state transportation laws were violated in having this well-meaning crew work from 8am one day to 9 am on their return the next. Not even considering the potential safety disaster in having a crew move 6500 lbs and drive both ways without a rest, they would have been subject to arrest had their logs been checked or had they been pulled for any reason. Find another company! Appeals to the owners and managers have completely been ignored. Don't risk it with these guys - they are bad news and deserve investigation if not fines!

Absolutely horrible experience! The initial quote was fine and were flexible with some modifications I needed to make. Then came the move. I had moved up to Maryland ahead of my fiancé to start my new job and left her to coordinate the house with the movers. They showed up late, were severely understaffed and then took three times as long as any other of my 4 moves across the country. They were supposed to be finished by 1pm on the second day and (after leaving for 2 hours) didn't finish at the old house until 12:30 in the morning which left my fiancé to have to find a hotel for the night as driving was not an option. Then they didn't show up until 2pm after scheduling 8am. Needless to say they weren't done until 1 in the morning. Additionally, my fiancé and I had to help them in order to get done by that time! I asked for money back after all the heartaches and the owner not only insulted me and my fiancé by only offering $200 but then was rude and completely discounted the value of my business to my face! After all this, they wouldn't respond to my 3 emails about the claim I filed months ago for damage done during my move. If these were the only movers left on the planet, I would not use them again. I can't express how horrible they were at all aspects.
