Cesar's team did a great job painting our entire house on a very tight time-frame. They were able to work with our schedule and get it done before our move-in date. They also did a couple other small jobs while they were here - like installing a new medicine cabinet and making a cover for our sump pump.

Walt and his guys installed a dishwasher and garbage disposal in our tiny kitchen where there had never been ones before. They did everything--cut out a space in the existing cabinet for the dishwasher, wired everything back to the electrical panel, did the plumbing, etc, and fixed a recently-discovered leak in our sink drain while they were at it! They were totally professional, did great work, and were super flexible as we were trying to get the work done as close to our move-in date as possible!

Rob came out to finish an IKEA cabinet that had us stymied about 90% through. He was terrific...immediately saw what the problem was, fixed that and finished the assembly. He's a very nice guy, and we are thrilled to have found a great handyman.

Al Barney is my hero. He has been a part of our lives for 15 years here in Leesburg. He is my "GO TO GUY". I come up with an idea and I call Al. He makes it happen. In my last home he created an amazing outdoor space with a screened in porch and deck, flowing to an amazing patio. Years later he created a front porch that made my house unique to others in the neighborhood. Now, I have an older home that needed updating. He gave me an amazing kitchen with an island and cabinets that are breathtaking. Please come see my kitchen. I am proud to say that Al Barney is my friend, my designer, my builder and my mentor. Next stop....my master bathroom.

Dave came to my home the same day and did what we thought was a small project, assembling a file cabinet. There was something wrong with the hardware and Dave was determined to fix it and he did. Dave gave me a quote and wanted to honor it though he went over the time. I gave him a generous tip. I will definitely use him again and recommend him highly.

I am very pleased with the work done by Mr. Lyubo Karamanov, Precision Remodeling. I loved everything about him. He made my door look new again and gave me excellent guidance on how to maintain its beauty. He stayed true to his estimate. He was especially careful to maintain a clean working space also, and explained to me step by step how he would repair the door. I will want to hire him for future work at my home.

I bought a new home that had a rundown kitchen and I couldn’t wait to have it remodeled. So I contacted Remodelingkb and they helped me with planning out what the renovation would consist of. We did a complete overhaul of the place and now I have a beautiful kitchen that I’m not ashamed of. I love my new counters, cabinets and floors! I have already referred them to friends who need their kitchens redone.

Eduardo came & gave me his opinion about shortening a kitchen cabinet to make a new fridge I wanted to purchase fit. He explained why he didn't think it should be done in a professional way, I will now purchase a different fridge, & will call him again for other projects. I will also refer friends to him.

I purchased Ikea cabinets and decided to use their recommended installers. After the base cabinets and several doors were in place, I realized the style I selected didn't look good with the appliances and new floor. I found a better option and told the installers that my regular contractor could finish the job because he assured me he could. When the new doors and drawer fronts arrived, my contractor said it was too complicated. Since he didn't know anyone who had experience installing Ikea cabinets, I had to scramble to find someone. Farshad saved me. He was prompt, professional, pleasant and polite. From the moment he started, it was obvious he had extensive experience. He worked quietly and efficiently, and took the time to answer each one of my questions with a warm and genuine smile. I couldn't be more pleased with Farshad and the work he did for me. And I would use him again without hesitation.

Eric with Acacia built a window seating area, painted the living room and installed kitchen cabinet with granite countertop in my house. Their professionalism and quality of work are pretty amazing. I checked out their shop in Virginia where all units are manufactured and it is an impressive place. The thing about Eric is that he is very trustworthy and goes above and beyond to get the job done to customer satisfaction. He also takes care of many other small things/details outside of the contract details during the job without making a big deal about it. Overall very good job and will hire again.

Last year I became Administrator for my Uncle’s Estate which included a townhome in Springfield, VA. Of all of the duties I had to perform as Administrator, renovating my Uncle’s townhome was the easiest as I hired Brent McNey for everything related to getting the townhome ready to sell. It was in terrible shape and had to be completely renovated from top to bottom. He was a Project Manager and handled everything from polishing the hardword floors, cleaning and painting the entire home, scheduling the electrician and plumber to get the home up to code, picking out and installing all of the kitchen appliances and the same for the 3 bathrooms; picking out and installing the kitchen floor and floors for 3 bathrooms. The backyard was cleaned, the cement deck was redone and the 2 sheds were cleaned out and painted. He was a joy to work with – very pro-active and responsive. He did an excellent job and I could not be more pleased. He went above and beyond to make sure that I was pleased with the results. The before and after shots are amazing! I highly recommend Brent McNey.

We recently decided to update our house that we have been living in for 4 years. We were looking to repair some stuff that had been let go, and also make some major changes inside. We found Chuck Baron's Custom Remodeling on Facebook and decided to call him out for a quote. We knew that we needed some repair done on our deck steps out back, a couple of walls removed, and a master bathroom remodel. Chuck was able to meet with us in a timely manner, and arrived at our house on time. We showed him our back steps, where he explained that we were having problems because the stringers were incorrectly place and recommended that the steps be rebuilt, rather than replacing the few steps to avoid future issues. The next area that he looked at was the two walls we wanted removed in the kitchen to create an open concept between the living room, dining room, and kitchen. He took the time to listen to what we wanted and then explained the process, including that we would need to install a header to make sure our supporting wall was still supported once the portion of the wall was removed. The last thing we asked for a quote for was remodeling our master bathroom. We needed to closets removed, tiling flooring installed, and two cabinet sinks installed. Chuck was professional the entire time and took the time to discuss different options that were available to us and mentioned some ideas that we had not previously thought of. We decided to hire him for all three projects, which he completed well beyond our expectations and within our time frame. We have recently decided to hire him for a build-in cabinet and some additional crown moulding in the near future. We appreciated the time he took to explain the entire process to us, the way he went above and beyond to keep us informed during the process, and promptness at showing up at our house. We definitely recommend Chuck and will hire him for all our future needs.

I can't believe how fast and amazing the project was. Mike came in and gave us an estimate and measure everything to give a full 3D design. Best thing about it was that they finished my kitchen in 3 to 4 days from signing and deposit. Not to mention the clean up. They kept my house and kitchen super clean even when they didn't need to. Amazing work. And I recommend everyone to atest talk with Mike.

IHad an 18" cabinet cut down to 12" to accommodate an over range microwave. Marvin Ashby was very knowledgeable and a skilled craftsman. Was at the high end of estimate but there was some very detailed work done! Highly recommend this business.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

        How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
