FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Being a licensed massage therapist you are required to take continuing education classes, not only in body work but in ethics as well. NCBTMB requires 48 CEU'S every two years 6 of which must be approved ethic courses. I just finished up 40CEU's just in aromatherapy(and that was only and introductory course for basic use) There are TONS of classes that you can chose from and that is what make s this field some wonderfully diverse and exciting!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
My most common job is the office worker/commuter that has upper back and neck pain, sometime so bad they have numbness in their fingers...it is very common and for the most part very treatable. Tied for first place is sciatic nerve pain related problems....caused by everything from car wrecks to roofing to sitting to long. People complain that they cant stand up out of a chair with out their back hitching on them, or they cant bend over to put on their shoes....the worse is the pain running down the leg, sometimes both. The tension in the lower back and glutes is one of the easiest areas for me to work on one of the most frequently requested because even with out disable the pain it just feels good!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
1. Look for their license it is required it be displayed. If not displayed, ask for it. Hesitation is a BIG red flare. Massage Therapist in VA are licensed through the board of Nursing and through the NCBTMB. If you are or have been violated by a Massage provider REPORT them to both of these places and protect others like yourself. 2. Look are a neat clean building, that will make a better chance that the massage room is clean, and smell the top blanket....if is smells like BO do NOT get on the table.... 3. Look for a massage therapist that is about massage....We are NOT licensed for counseling if you are having a hard time you need a licensed therapist not a massage therapist! We can help relieve body stresses and help you learn to breath when you tense up, but not mental help anyone who tells you other wise is lying...period.
