I had the pleasure to work with Xen Live on May 14th, 2018 at Richland Golf Club, Middletown MD. He was very professional in every aspect: setting the speakers and the microphones ahead of time, providing a high quality equipment and being attentive to all the musicians including a singer, pianist, and violinist. The volume level was properly adjusted and the ceremony went as smoothly as possible despite the fact there was high wind at the site. I can't wait to work with Xen Live again, and highly recommend his business to everyone who is looking for a perfect wedding. Zhenya Zianouka, violinist

Jonathan is an excellent musician! He was also incredibly responsive and helpful with every question I asked leading up to the event. Although we never got a chance to meet on my wedding day the music he performed was flawless. He is extremely easy to work with and very professional. Hire him!

Matt played for us during our wedding ceremony in October of 2013. Not only is Matt an extremely talented musician, he is one of the most genuine and thoughtful people I have come across in the music industry. His performance was spectacular, our guests raved. I would recommend him to everyone!

This gentleman is phenomenal and we highly recommend him!! His talent and kindness will give you what you want to hear. My husband and I had a beach wedding and he is very accommodating. We gave him his choice of music to play before the ceremony. He played "Canon in D" just how I had asked for my father to walk me down the isle. He played "Daddy's Hands" while our cousin sang for the father/daughter dance and he helped her sing some of the chorus. Our brother rewrote some lyrics to a song I had asked him to sing and Shawn played to that as well. He will do what it takes to give you your "Special Day". Gracias Shawn and keep up the groove!!

We weren't sure what to expect booking a band without having met them, but New Legacy Jazz Band was definitely worth it! They made our wedding so much more fun, with none of the typical wedding band cheesiness many come to expect. We were very impressed with the samples posted on their website, and even more so with the easy communication with our contact Alan. We could tell they had done this many times in the past - every time we sent a question (such as whether they could play music from a CD, or would be able to make announcements), he responded promptly and assured us that all of our needs were covered. The band was able to do everything we hoped for and more! We had 165 guests, and packed the dance floor even at 1 in the afternoon. We had been so worried about people not dancing that early, but the music was so good it was hard not to! In addition, Alan was friendly and personable at the mic making announcements and cuing the events of the afternoon, giving us exactly what we wanted despite the vague descriptions we had sent. We heard a LOT of compliments about the music from our guests, and are so glad we booked New Legacy for our wedding. We would recommend them in a heartbeat - the music was great, the energy was high, and they were so very easy to work with.

I used Goldenboyz Productions for my father’s 60th birthday party. They provided a DJ and Comedian which both were outstanding! I highly recommend them for any event you have. Goldenboyz Productions was recommended to me by a coworker who had them for her wedding reception. Hire Goldenboyz for your next event and I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Bad Influence, the premier Washington, DC band, has been playing their style of blues-infused, high-energy music since 1988. Ever-growing crowds turn out for the band's scorching hot and sinfully addicting shows, which are charged with a masterful blend of sensuously rough edges wrapped in soulful smoothness, riveting rock currents and potent shots of swing and American roots music. All this is signed, sealed and delivered in a suggestive, in-your-face style guaranteed to captivate even the most stoic of mind, body and spirit. The award-winning Bad Influence features Bob Mallardi on bass and vocals, Hohner endorsed artist Roger Edsall on harp and vocals, Epiphone endorsed artist Michael "Jr" Tash on guitar and vocals, and Sonor endorsed artist David Thaler on the drums.

We are a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band, which is a must-see if you never got to see the original band or if you are just a die-hard Southern rock fan.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
