I used Otto's originally on a hardwood refinishing job. Jose showed up early for the estimate, was very friendly, took time to explain and measure the floor and got me an accurate quote. I was confident with his quote as he took the time to measure the square footage. Other companies just came in and quoted without measuring which made me hesitant. After the refinishing job, I had him do an install of vinyl plank at another property, again he measured and gave me an accurate quote. No surprises when you go to pay. Flooring looked great!!! Finally, I had Otto's do a hardwood flooring installation at yet another investment home I own. Those floors looked FANTASTIC and cost far less than our old installer we used, I have seen my fair share of hardwood floors as I am not only a realtor but a real estate investor. I would hire Otto's Hardwood Floors again in the future, Jose makes every effort to accommodate his customers! You would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't consider Otto's Hardwood Floors for your next flooring project!

I can't recommend Andrey and team enough. I had an urgent project to remove vinyl and install flooring in one bedroom apartment. Andrey came in the morning around 11 AM and finished everything by 5 PM. I was very impressed by the speed, efficiency and quality of work he did, top grade. Andrey is going to be the person I will hire for all my flooring needs in future too. He cares about his customers. Thank you and keep up the great work. One more very happy customer!

Jorge and his crew worked hard to meet our deadlines, they were all friendly, did good work, and followed up with punch list items and finished the job. I used them for drywall, painting, and tile. I will hire them again.

Here's the deal. I am BIG on transparency. While value for some is the cost of the service, for me it's the overall experience. The contract initiation, timing, responsiveness to emails, etc. and Erik and his team (family) were amazing from the first contact to the final installation in every aspect of the job. When we were deciding on the slab, Erik was so concerned that we knew which slab that he said it would probably be best if he brought samples to our house (we are on Bainbridge Island so heading over to Kent to see it was not feasible) but given Erik was installing here he said he could manage that to ensure we were sure about the choice. In my eyes, many providers would have just used our selection and installed but Erik wanted to ensure our satisfaction. May not be a big deal to some, but that he cared that we got what we wanted not just the one we picked online tells me it's more than a transactional business to him. Erik is aware what it takes to be successful in business because he doesn't just want satisfaction he wants it to be what the customer wants. The whole experience, from reaching out to him to getting the granite fabricated and installed took just over 3 weeks! Who knew it could be this easy? We're now selecting the backsplash tile and you can be sure Erik and his team are who we'll use. I wish I could give him 10 stars - as the outcome was 2 times as good as I hoped and the look, price and quality of the granite even more than I expected. Thanks GGM. You're the best.

George did an excellent job refinishing our old parquet floor. He came back many times to figure out how to handsomely resolve an assortment of small changes caused by new cabinets and adjacent vinyl flooring. (I paid him a bit extra due to all the extra work, and it was well worth it.) George was very pleasant to work with. If I ever need floor work done again, I'll call him first!

Full tiling of kitchen, full bathroom and master bath/shower; front entry and fire hearth. Included installation of Schluter shower system, Kerdiboard sub tile flooring. Job included travertine floor (master bath) and base boarding, base boarding in second bath, decorative breaks in tub and shower tiling. BuilderLand Llc, were fast, efficient and caring. Eduard and Paul know their stuff, offered considered and good suggestions on look and finish, met some really tight deadlines with little apparent care for their own wellbeing, and, despite changes and unexpected issues, maintained their cheer and helpful latitude. Costs were controlled an below expected. In addition, Paul and Eduard undertook a number of tasks that were necessary to the overall project, but not part of either the original contract or strictly within the scope of expected work. These guys were more than helpful, they gave both the impression and proof that they were invested in the project as a whole, not just their part of it; and offered assistance that allowed the overall project to stay on track. The quality of tiling work was outstanding, and they were the tidiest tilers that I have ever worked with, no mess, no spatter. The process of tiling was kept clean at every step, tile by tile! I cannot praise this contractor enough. They were a true pleasure to work with.

Absolutely perfect experience, so I am highly recommending this company! Mr. Tim is very professional, experienced, honest, and just super nice individual overall. I originally hired Mr. Tim to replace a roof on my rental, but slowly kept adding other things like installation of a new skylight, new gutters, new storm door to name a few. Communication was also excellent. I couldn't be on the job site everyday but received updates and photos of everything that was being worked on. I would give this company 10 stars if I could. Never in my life I've had such a wonderful experience with a contractor. Thank you Mr. Tim:) I will be calling you very soon.

I hired Heyzen to initially install my vinyl plank flooring in my family room. After talking to him we decided to have him install the wood on our accent wall. He did an outstanding job on both and I would hire him again in a second. He's very professional and courteous and was a pleasure to work with.

Cedo installed tile for a utility room and bathroom (bathtub, floor), as well as some drywall work and an interior door. He is meticulous and detail-oriented, and I would second someone else's comments that he is a perfectionist. For ex, there is an area of the utility room behind the furnace that is out of sight, and I suggested that he not bother to place tile there, because it was hard to get to. However, he insisted on doing so, because he wanted to do it right. In terms of the bathroom, he did a nice job tiling around the bathtub and window. He took the time to make sure everything looks great. The job took a longer than planned because of some unexpected challenges that were not Cedo's fault. I would definitely hire him again.

He was very professional. Always on time and ready to work. Also, helped in picking out quality paint, tile and fixtures at a great value. Answered all my questions and put my mind at ease with all the work to be done. He even measured, put in brackets and hung my 60 inch flat screen above the fireplace! It looks GREAT! I would definitively recommend Kellie and use him in the future. Happy customer! 😊

It was a pleasure working with Bob and his Elegant Hardwood crew. Bob showed great pride in his work, and went out of his way to save us money in total material costs. His willingness to share his trade knowledge, and efficient work methods made my hardwood/tile installation experience a very positive one. My project consisted of floating engineered hardwood, ceramic tiles, quarter rounds and wood transitions (1200 sq ft worth).

We were looking for a carpenter do do a fix up for our 2 bathrooms thinking we just needed a little wall job. When he looked behind walls he had to remove 3 tile walls they were full of rotted wood full of ants. In back bathroom he took the floor up and installed wood tile flooring and replaced wall. In big bathroom he re hung new tile complete with shampoo holder with special waterproofing the boards beneath. He did an excellent job and very quickly. I would recommend him to all my family and friends. He is Cuban so he has a cute accent and great personality he will be welcome in our home forever.

Chad's focus on customer satisfaction is beyond expectation. His approach on the 'right thing to do' and follow-up is the best we've seen. Chad installed a gorgeous master bathroom, home bar, and other glass tile accents for us to perfection. He worked with all natural stone, glass time, & granite. He used epoxy grout and sand grout. He is a great leader, communicates well, trains his crews on the latest techniques/materials, provides quality assurance/control, and is not afraid of epoxy grout like many other tile installer's. Our installation has been in place for approximately 1.5 years and we still love it.

We had a mixture of red oak, carpet, tile, and laminate throughout the main living space of our home. Under Scott's guidance, we trashed everything except the red oak, he laced in new red oak throughout the area, sanded, and restained it to a beautiful dark brown. They moved very quickly and we're patient with us as we chose our stain color. We couldn't be happier with the floors, the speed of the job, and how great and respectful Scott and his crew were to our home. We 1000% recommend these guys.

I was so impressed with Ionel who completed the job with such exactitude and such pride of workmanship. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

For more on how to remodel a bathroom and bathroom tiling check out The Complete Thumbtack Bathroom Remodel Guide.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
