I can't recommend Andrey and team enough. I had an urgent project to remove vinyl and install flooring in one bedroom apartment. Andrey came in the morning around 11 AM and finished everything by 5 PM. I was very impressed by the speed, efficiency and quality of work he did, top grade. Andrey is going to be the person I will hire for all my flooring needs in future too. He cares about his customers. Thank you and keep up the great work. One more very happy customer!

Jorge and his crew worked hard to meet our deadlines, they were all friendly, did good work, and followed up with punch list items and finished the job. I used them for drywall, painting, and tile. I will hire them again.

Jeff redid our bathroom, replacing the tub, sinks and all the tile. You could tell he cared about what he did, cleaning up after himself, making sure each tile was aligned correctly, and visually yet bathroom would look good when you entered. Would use him again!

Cedo installed tile for a utility room and bathroom (bathtub, floor), as well as some drywall work and an interior door. He is meticulous and detail-oriented, and I would second someone else's comments that he is a perfectionist. For ex, there is an area of the utility room behind the furnace that is out of sight, and I suggested that he not bother to place tile there, because it was hard to get to. However, he insisted on doing so, because he wanted to do it right. In terms of the bathroom, he did a nice job tiling around the bathtub and window. He took the time to make sure everything looks great. The job took a longer than planned because of some unexpected challenges that were not Cedo's fault. I would definitely hire him again.

We were looking for a carpenter do do a fix up for our 2 bathrooms thinking we just needed a little wall job. When he looked behind walls he had to remove 3 tile walls they were full of rotted wood full of ants. In back bathroom he took the floor up and installed wood tile flooring and replaced wall. In big bathroom he re hung new tile complete with shampoo holder with special waterproofing the boards beneath. He did an excellent job and very quickly. I would recommend him to all my family and friends. He is Cuban so he has a cute accent and great personality he will be welcome in our home forever.

We had fine design help us with a small kitchen remodel and flooring throughout a couple rooms in our home. We were very happy with the outcome! Taylor and his guys are very professional and quick to respond. Taylor is super handy with everything and we are consistently using him for other home improvements (i.e wood mantel installation) and will use him in the near future for our master bathroom remodel and quartz installation. Great price range and good quality. Only improvements for Taylor and his team would be cleaning up daily after work and completing on time, our project was finished a few days late. We highly recommend!

I had Brian and Diamond Tile come out and tile our new shower stall. I had a short amount of time to complete the work (tenants moving in) and I appreciated that they could start working the day after the bid was given. There was a slight "hiccup" along the way, but Brian made sure everything was taken care of and I'm pleased with the final result.

I hired Bryan & Hands On Contracting to replace an existing aluminum sliding door after we had been informed by the "professionals" at Lowes that the vinyl replacement sliding door we wanted would not fit in the existing rough opening (our only option was an upsell in both door & labor). Bryan & his crew came by to field verify the opening and were confident they could install the door and if needed, had explained remedies if indeed the rough opening was too small. Long story short, Bryan was right, door fit perfectly. Looks great. Bryan and his crew were on-time, courteous, professional and very informative. I WILL hire AGAIN in the future.

Chad's focus on customer satisfaction is beyond expectation. His approach on the 'right thing to do' and follow-up is the best we've seen. Chad installed a gorgeous master bathroom, home bar, and other glass tile accents for us to perfection. He worked with all natural stone, glass time, & granite. He used epoxy grout and sand grout. He is a great leader, communicates well, trains his crews on the latest techniques/materials, provides quality assurance/control, and is not afraid of epoxy grout like many other tile installer's. Our installation has been in place for approximately 1.5 years and we still love it.

Vlad and his crew did a great job on our downstairs bathroom. We were starting with studs and concrete floor and I didn't feel comfortable doing the shower drain & floor. Vlad listened to what we wanted, worked with us every step of the way including being flexible about buying materials and even saved us a ton by suggesting different places to buy things. For example our shower is doorless but has a big piece of glass that seperates it from the main bathroom area. This glass was showing up well over $1k but Vlad suggested looking on-line and we got an even thicker piece than we were originally looking at for a quarter of the that price. After all was said and done they built out the entire shower (pan, drain, tile, glass, fixtures, etc) and installed in-floor heat before tiling the main floor. It came out great and we are super happy. The ONLY hiccup in the whole thing was we have two tones of Schluter Stip around our tile (white and off-white) which was tough to see in the working light but now with lights installed is sorta noticable. But that is pretty minor....otherwise would have been 5 stars. Thanks Vlad!

Finish Pro Tile was able to provide great service with our kitchen installation. We wanted to do a unique stainless steel tile and Igor, the installer, knew exactly what type of grout was necessary to use to ensure there were no scratches on the finish. He really helped us create the perfect statement piece. His finish work is second to none. Igor was also very trustworthy. He was able to lock up our house after leaving when we had visitors in town. I would rate their service 5 out of 5 stars.

We can't praise Anthony enough for all the work he did for us to get our house ready to be put on the market. He did an amazing job with our fireplace - framing it with tile, building a custom mantel from wood, and painting the brick. He also replaced our sinks, old light switches, and installed custom skylight blinds. He did everything within time and budget and always had a professional and friendly manner. You can tell that he really cares about doing quality work. He wasn't satisfied until it was up to his high standard. We truly enjoyed having Anthony help us with our projects, and are so happy we found a handyman that we can trust to do excellent work.

Nick did a fantastic job installing the tile in our master bath. It including the floor, walk in shower, and drop in tub surround. I couldn't be happier with the work that was done. Great communication! He was there when he said he would be and called if he was running late. I would highly recommend City to Home Tile to anyone. Honestly I can't attest to value, because the other two tile companies that I asked for a quote never showed, but the price that I was charged seemed worth it for the quality and the amount of work that needed to be done. Great work Nick! Thanks!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install tile?

Tile installation costs vary widely depending on the tiles you choose, where you want them installed, and what kind of demolition and surface preparation you need to have done. The national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The more tiles that need to be cut by hand and laid on the surface, the higher the total cost. Tile installation professionals can handle many different types of stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, applying them in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and entranceways. They can create anything from artistic mosaic backsplashes in your kitchen to modern shower enclosures to rustic patios in your backyard. Tile installation professions often can remove existing flooring or old tiles and replace drywall. Tile prices range from $1 to more than $50 per square foot — handmade ones are even priced individually — depending on the material. Rustic, handmade or special-use tiles cost more to install because they must be applied to the surface one by one, rather than in a sheet. For most jobs, tile installation costs are based on the square footage of the project. For example, a standard 6-foot by 8-foot shower tile installation can average $1,200-$1,600, depending on whether the tiles go to the top of the shower or to the ceiling. The total cost of a tiling project also includes the grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps, and tile mounting materials like backer board.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
