I had gained weight recently... I had a 30 year high school reunion coming up... I had nothing to wear... I panicked!! Luckily, I found Andreana of Bakert Miceli Design. She responded immediately to my request, answered several questions by email, and scheduled an appointment at my apartment within a few days. Andreana put my mind at ease within moments of meeting her. She listened to my concerns - the weight gain, not wanting to look old, not knowing if my clothing was "age appropriate" for me, being hard to fit, etc. - and then assured me that she could help me find an outfit (clothing, accessories, shoes) for my reunion as well as address my general wardrobe concerns. The first meeting we went through most of my closet and Andreana helped me weed out a bunch of clothes that no longer worked for me (or never really did). She explained why, which is crucial so I don't keep making the same mistakes. I filled two large garbage bags of clothing to give away - and this was after I had done a huge purge on my own just a couple months before! Andreana is so organized. She took notes and photos as we worked, making a list of items I needed to purchase in order to fill in the gaps in my wardrobe (mostly basics). I felt so much better after that first meeting! After that we scheduled two shopping trips to buy a dress for my reunion, as well as some of the basics from her list. Having Andreana in the store with me was fabulous! She knows how to work with the store clerks and quickly scan the store so that we used our time most efficiently. And she showed me why I was selecting the wrong sizes, or tips like how to tie the belt of a dress to be more flattering to my figure. I accomplished so much in so little time with her. And I typically HATE shopping!! In between our meetings Andreana would send follow up emails to summarize the items I still needed to purchase, and would send photos or links for suggested items. Her emails were so helpful and kept me focused. I went to my reunion this past weekend, and thanks to Andreana's help I felt stylish and beautiful, and received tons of compliments!! Huge success!!! I would absolutely recommend Bakert Miceli Design to anyone looking for a stylist and/or personal shopper. If you've been thinking about it but aren't sure, contact Andreana and give it a try!

Catherine is such a pleasure. She was able to find clothes that not only fit me well but were comfortable to wear. She listened to my needs and helped me articulate my preferences. I hate shopping but I can genuinely say that she made it fun and efficient. Just a couple hours of pre-work and our time together at the store was so much more efficient. I learned a ton about fit, materials and shapes. Now we will be able to shop online for future pieces, something I have never felt comfortable doing. I will definitely use her in the future… she is worth every penny!

Christine has an incredible eye and was able to whip through my closet, helping me donate items that didn't fit right, were out of date, or just plain ugly. She taught me lessons along the way, explaining why certain pieces worked with my body or why not. And she helped me figure out what my style should be in two words--Chic mom--so that I could start whittling things down and shopping smart on my own. We also went shopping together and the pieces she picked out are still to this day some of my favorites. They are classics, not trends. I hated spending money on things that I knew weren't great and didn't look great on me, and now I feel more confident to make clothing decisions. If you're thinking about hiring Christine, don't hesitate--it's one of the best decisions I made! She will change your style life. :)

I recommend working with Susan to update your wardrobe. She took the time to get to know me and understand what I wanted (questionnaire, phone call and in-person meeting). I sought her service after a year of purging old, tired clothes - I needed new work clothes but couldn’t find brands or styles that I liked. After several bouts of shopping (on line and at the mall) my closet was sparse. I felt comfortable with Susan and her assistant, Eric, from the beginning. They know fashion and how to shop for discounts. I had a specific budget target and they met it right on. My husband came to the fitting with me and they included him in the process. Many of the clothes I selected are things I would not have tried on at a store but they work very well. We left with several bags filled with new clothes and all within my budget. Now I know better where to shop and what to look for.

I was nervous about my photo shoot for my new album until Sarah Ward came on board as stylist. Fashion is not really my forte so Sarah helped me find pieces that were right for me, right for the album, and right for the camera. And all of this on a budget too! I like that Sarah focuses on finding pieces that fit not only your body and coloring, but also who you are as a person. I felt totally comfortable shopping with Sarah because I knew she had taken the time to understand me. She was a lifesaver.

Jordyn is a gem of a stylist! I felt really comfortable with her helping me with my spring and summer wardrobe refresh. The process was so easy and fun: we went through my closet and got rid of pieces that were trendy and no longer in style. Then we went shopping to for new pieces that were stylish but yet timeless.

Alexis is amazing and saved the day. I was officiating my friends wedding in Portland and was undecided between a bare high heel or a more covered bootie lower-heel style. I was busy w work, and basically ran out of time to shop. We talked late afternoon and by noon the next day she brought 4 shoeboxes to my home, and two were perfect. I kept the perfect pair and she returned the other 3. I get compliments every time I wear them, too. Alexis is super organized and FAST. She gets personal style too - her assumptions and picks are pretty spot on! I will call her again for sure.

Kat was a great person to work with for interior design and helping revamp my personal style. She has a great eye for these things but most importantly she was insistent on getting to know me, my personality, and my own style to make sure I felt like myself in my home and my outfits. Thanks Kat!

This, quite honestly, was the best investment I have made in myself in my life that I can recall. It all started because I went on a date with someone who told me "if you dressed better, you'd be a real catch" (ouch!). That person didn't get a second date from me but did wake me up to the fact that I needed style help because I had no idea what I was doing. I also didn't really have the patience or interest to figure it out on my own. A friend recommended Styled Seattle, and I worked with Sherri. The best true compliment I can give is that the whole service is BOTH a super professional organization (two offices, electronic invoicing, etc) AND a totally personal human-to-human experience. Sherri came to my house, we spent about 5 hours together--um, not that long when you figure I got a cleaned out closet and a whole new wardrobe out of it. She is an expert who knows when to explain Why something looks good and give instruction, just as she knows when to say "Just trust me." I spent about $1,500 on clothes and about $600 on service. All in all, it was a $2,000 project, but I'm already planning to do again in the fall. Just like any professional work, it's smart to go with the best.

Audrey Hepburn... Breakfast at Tiffanys... an upcoming semi-formal occasion caused me to want to emulate Audrey's elegant style with my hair and makeup. Aylah's first words in her Thumbtack introduction were " I looove Audrey Hepburn!.." And I knew instantly I found the perfect person to bring out the "glam" in me! During the two hours she set aside for the transformation we chatted and I sipped tea and nibbled on cookies while she painstakingly applied thirty-eight bobby pins, matte foundation and contouring, brow pencil, two new eyelashes, custom-colored lipstick, and the requisite misting of hairspray. One tiara later, I was propelled into the world of little black party dresses, jewels, and opera gloves. The night was magical, and I have Aylah to thank for a timeless look that turned heads. She is an experienced, talented stylist, sensitive to the goals of her client. I had a delightful experience and hope to visit her again soon!

Ms. Strobel has excellent taste. Her many years of expertise in art and design make her the perfect candidate for creative design projects for any environment - from production staging, business staging and of course home design, she is the best. I've had the pleasure of working with her for years and she always brings out the very best in whatever space she is styling. With an nod toward your personal style and a touch of modernity, she is miles ahead of the average stylist design curve. Additionally, she is an absolute pleasure to work with. I can't say enough good things about her. Highly recommended!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do image consultants do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion, such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot. The consultant will recommend clothing, hair and makeup to suit the occasion either using either what the client owns or taking a targeted shopping trip. For a complete fashion consultation, the image consultant will assess your wardrobe, your lifestyle, and what you hope to present to the world, and will then determine the best colors, styles and cuts for you. You can get help streamlining your professional appearance, adjusting your style after a change in body size, solidifying a new look, or finding clothing to fit one area of your life like work or weekends. Image consultants also provide closet edits, going through your clothing and paring out what isn’t right for the look you’re trying to achieve. Personal shopping is another service that image consultants provide. After an image assessment, they can either shop with you or shop on your behalf to find you key pieces you need.

How do I find a personal stylist?

To find a fashion consultant, start by browsing portfolios online. Styling is a visual art, so finding a fashion consultant who fits the style you desire is key. Great personal stylists aren’t confined to one style, but if you’re seeking a hipper, fashion-forward vibe, you’d do well to find someone with a modern portfolio, while a fashion consultant with a consistently refined style could be a better fit if you’d prefer a more conservative look. Reading reviews is also helpful for learning more about the fashion consultant. Research their training, background and years of experience. After reviewing websites and Instagram accounts, meet with the stylist in person to learn how well they fit your personality; some fashion consultants offer a free phone consultation prior to hiring. Before hiring, make sure you clearly understand their terms of service and payment.

    What is a personal shopper?

Personal shoppers take the pain out of having good fashion. Personal shoppers are paid professionals who work with women, men or children who need style assistance. If you are stuck in a fashion rut, are unsure how to dress in a way that flatters your body, need to revamp your image, or want a more professional career look, personal shoppers can help. Personal shoppers identify the look their client wants to achieve and purchase the necessary clothing and accessories to achieve it. The process often begins with an initial consultation with the client to understand their style goals. This consultation may include a closet “audit,” an assessment of the client’s current wardrobe to see what items can be eliminated and what must be purchased to achieve the desired style.

The client and the personal shopper can shop together, selecting items as a team. The personal shopper may also shop on behalf of the client, then bring all items to the client for a final decision. A third option is pre-shopping, where the personal shopper reaches the store(s) ahead of the client and sets aside clothing for the client to try on, expediting the whole process — a win for anyone who hates spending time in the mall. Personal shoppers can also be hired for one-time events such as weddings, vacations or birthdays. You can also enlist a personal shopper to do your gift shopping for you. Overall, a personal shopper is an investment in making good style choices.

    What is a fashion consultant?

A fashion consultant is a paid professional who will advise you on what to wear and how to wear it to fit your desired lifestyle or career goals. A fashion consultant can provide many services including personal shopping, closet audits, beauty consultations, style consultations and ongoing seasonal services. A fashion consultant often has a design or fashion background (although this is not required) and an innate sense of style. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the colors, cuts and designs we think suit us. A fashion consultant comes in with fresh eyes and provides constructive feedback to guide your style choices.

During your initial meeting, your fashion consultant will take stock of your current clothing selection and learn what you hope to achieve. They’ll identify core wardrobe pieces you need, as well as advise you how to wear items together. Many consultants create style lookbooks for their clients explaining things like exactly which shoes to wear with what pants and how to accessorize each look. Fashion consultants are a great option for people who are updating their style due to age, career changes or body changes, or who are just ready for a new look and feel. Most fashion consultants charge by the hour, with some offering packages and others working from a retainer.

An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot.
