Introduction: I started my pet sitting service because I found it difficult to find quality care for my animals when they became elderly and required special care.
As an animal lover, I understand that pets all have different needs. When my fur babies were young and healthy, I would board them at my local vet's office. They would share a run and would be left alone from 7:30 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. the following morning.
Once they reached into their senior years, age related diseases kicked in. Leaving them unsupervised for that long of a period was no longer an option. It was difficult to find care. When I did find care, the cost was outrageous.
At BrainyCakes, Ill come to my clients home! I believe that pets are more comfortable sleeping in their own bed. Ill keep their schedule and make sure they get the attention they deserve. I can provide any of the following services:
- Drop in visits (30 min) as many as needed per day
- Administer medication
- Feed (I can cook a special diet if needed)
- Water
- Backyard potty breaks
- Poop pick up
- Diabetic Injections (insulin)
- Diabetes blood testing
- Litter box scoop
- Feed/water/clean birds, fish or reptiles
- Water plants
- Take out trash/Bring in bins
- Turn lights on/off
- Pick up the mail
- Playtime (this is my favorite part!)
- Midday check ups/medicate
I enjoy the animals! I get to spend time with dogs and cats (especially small dogs). Old dog or puppy, kitty or grumpy cat, I love everything about them. Seniors have a very special place in my heart too.
My experience comes from owning and caring for pets for the past 24 years. I have loved 5 dogs, two turtles and about a dozen cats. I am also an active volunteer at Homeward pet adoption/rescue center in Woodinville! I have taken both cat care and dog care classes and I also foster when needed.
I have been fortunate to have all my animals live to the ripe age 15+ years. In those golden years I have gained experience in many animal age-related illnesses.
Canine diabetes is my specialty. My very best friend Larry the half Pug, half Chihuahua, was diagnosed just over two years ago at the age of 11. I learned to test blood glucose (I usually test twice a day at fastings), administer insulin injections and adjust insulin dosage when necessary. I'm familiar with hypoglycemia and how to quickly treat. I can make appropriate decisions based on blood sugar readings. I have done research on homemade diets. I have a great recipe for diabetic dogs and another for kidney related issues.
I also care for cats. I'm a volunteer in the cat room at Woodinville Homeward Pet Adoption Center. I help feed, clean and socialize 20-30 cats each week! I love working with these homeless cats because after we rehabilitate them they find a great FOREVER home. I'm also currently fostering a Mama cat and her 3 beautiful kittens. I got them at 3 days old and get to keep them for 2 whole months! I'm learning so much about kitten development and how to properly care for a nursing mother. I have two cats of my own as well.
