I hired Dennis initially to install a new garbage disposal, but realized I also needed an OTR microwave replaced and two tubs caulked so asked if he'd be up for it before we met. He showed up 5 minutes early for the job, and finished all 4 tasks in a couple of hours (that's including a trip he took to lowes when he needed a new part for the disposal). His work was great, esp the caulk beads which are very smooth. His prices are right too -- he didn't even want to charge me for driving to lowe's. Great handyman, I've added him to my address book for anything I'm going to need in the future.

We have been working with Jose and his team for over two years. Our first project was an install of a wall mounted rack for a home gym. On the morning of the project, it snowed six inches. Despite the weather and the challenges of getting up our hill, he arrived on time. We then lost power and went to Costco to buy a backup generator. He helped us get our backup generator running quickly to make sure the sump pump could continue to run. He then attached his tools to the generator and continued to work on the gym install. We have hired him numerous times since for framing, drywall, painting and other odd jobs such as the install of Nest smoke detectors. He has met and exceeded expectations with every task. At our recommendation, Jose has done work for family members and friends including roof repair, shower drain repair, and a bathroom remodel. We look forward to working with Jose in the future.

Armando was wonderful to work with for interior painting as we prepped our house to go on the market. He was always prompt with communication, understood exactly what I wanted, and was very accommodating to my needs and timeline. His prices were extremely competitive. I will most definitely hire him and his team for more work in the future and feel confident recommending his services to others.

Besnik and his team did a great job on our project. They were professional, polite, listened to the various details of how we wanted our office space painted and made them happen. Besnik was quick to answer emails and always available via the phone when questions arose during this one week project. This team of painters took great care to ensure they were providing a top quality job and that we were satisfied with their work. We highly recommend Ace Painting Finish and would hire them again!

I hired Mijangos Painting to paint the exterior of our home. I had gotten several other bids for this job. I chose Mijangos Painting because of his competitive pricing and positive attitude. He came out within one day to give the bid and started the next day. He worked quickly and did an excellent job. We are extremely happy with the finished product. He kept his word with everything he said he would do and even did some extra stuff to make it look best. The whole time asking us what we thought and if we wanted anything changed. I would highly recommend Mijangos Painting to anyone looking to have interior or exterior painting done.

Great Job. My house is a 3 bedroom about 1800 square feet and it is about 80 years old. I hired Kriss's company, Cipro to paint the house which I was putting up for sale in Tacoma. I was worried because I was falling behind on my schedule and I wanted the job done fast and within a certain time frame. Kriss and his assistant worked on my house and It was amazing. They painted the walls, repaired a broken hole in one of the bedrooms and did the trims. They did a great job and I would hire them again. I was impressed

Gafco did a wonderful job painting our house! We had 4 painters and a supervisor arrive at 9AM. They did all the prep work and gave our 1800 sq foot home 2 coats of paint in addition to priming the trim. They did the whole house in one day. It looks really great!

I am a realtor and I represented a buyer who asked for the seller to repair siding, recaulk, and paint the home prior to closing. With very little notice Darren came through and did all the repairs and paint in under 4 days on a larger residential home. My buyer is extremely happy that the home was painted prior to closing and with such short notice. I will be sure to use Clean Cut Painters in the future and recommend him to my colleagues!

We had to repaint our house a year after it had been painted by another company. The paint was bubbling. I did quite a lot of research and interviewed several painters and decided to use Capital Builders. The experience from start to finish was a good one. Our house looks beautiful again. I highly recommend this company.

We had Andy come in and paint a mural on our wall of the Charles St Bridge in Prague. We emailed back and forth a few times to get the general form of the mural and then agreed upon a start date. Andy came in and did a great job, very professional. The mural looks amazing, everyone who comes in and looks at it loves it. Highly recommended.

John was great to work with as a painter, and we will for sure use him again as a contractor. He is great person to get along with and he gets the job done. Couldn't be more pleased. Painted our whole house in a reasonable amount of time, and we appreciated that we could go to work and trust our house to him. Thanks John!!!

We met with Ben at Ekahi Contracting to get a quote for painting the interior of our home. He really stood out as being more professional than the other painters that we met with. He quickly emailed estimates with different options. His contract was clear and concise, spelling out exactly what work is to be done (including clean-up afterwards) and when payments are due. He and his crew did a great job painting our whole interior, including the walls, ceilings, trim and doors. We had our old carpet taken out, planning to install the new carpet after the painting was done. Ben pointed out that we had a spot in the floor that had water damage, and that he could fix it. He took out the damaged sub-floor, inspected to make sure that there was no mold underneath, and fixed the floor. He again made a clear contract for this job, as before, and did a great job. We were also planning to have our deck repainted, and asked Ben about doing that. He was also able to fix our wobbly stairs (they are very sturdy and stable now). They sanded, primed and painted our deck, rails, lattice and stairs. Ben also used a special deck treatment for the floor of the deck that lasts longer than paint and is slip-resistant. We are very happy with the quality of work that we received from Ekahi Contracting and are planning to have Ben do some renovation work on our kitchen and bathrooms next.

Rafael was an all-around professional for my interior painting job. He came to my house to provide a quote as scheduled, provided a VERY reasonable quote quickly, and painted during a week I was out of town as I requested. His job was top notch . No drips or streaks like my previous paint job. Holes patched, edges neat, smooth walls. When I returned home, all of my furniture was back in place as I left it, with new, perfectly painted walls. Rafael is my new to-go painter, 5 stars doesn't tell the story! I strongly recommend Rafael for any paint job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
