Molding or baseboards,
I had an urgent issue today when the skylight in my living room slipped during the rain, causing a serious risk of flooding inside my living room. Andrew was very prompt in responding to my request on this site, and drove up to my house on very short notice with all the necessary hardware and sealed the skylight shut. He was very professional and courteous, and his fee was very competitive. Should I need a handyman in the future, he will likely be among the first calls I will make.Sep 16, 2019VerifiedS.O.S. We thank you so much for the positive review! We can help any day or night of the week! Please call again! Thanks!!
Best handyman ever. He can do anything — hang pictures, install a new toilet, install a pet door, mount a tv on the wall, hook up your components — and he does it fast. If you don’t hire him, it’s your loss.Dec 15, 2018VerifiedS.O.S. Handyman Services's reply
Thanks Linda for the positive review! You have my personal number and please call when you need me!
I hired this company to replace a damaged wood fence post and surrounding wood pickets along with intermittent damaged pickets (8-10) around remainder of fence line. I was pleased to find a local repair person that estimated the project for less than the professional fence co. that originally installed the fence. Technically, the finished repair looks consistent with the original fence line and therefore may be reasonable quality. However, I had several odd or very concerning interactions (including calling me a "miserable B___ rhymes with witch) by end of project with this Handyman that I marked the net project as below average in. (1) Repair: In addition to above quality of repair comments, SOS Handyman replaced the entire 2 sections around the fence post with new pickets by re-building / cutting the pickets at his home and delivering to my property to install. I am not carpentry-savvy to determine if this was necessary or an indication of his lack of experience with this type of repair. He reported that several of the existing pickets were brittle and became damaged during the wood post repair. This may be reasonable as fence is approxiately 7-8 years old. However, he did not mention this during estimate bid. Later, he offered to not charge for the additional wood pickets he purchased and cut to size (I thought that I had a standard 4' ft picket but he indicated that it was a particular style). At time of offering, I countered that if repairs were necessary to that level then he could charge me for the supplies and time. He again countered that he would not charge me. However, he subsequently added a $50 charge to the invoice with no explanatory details. To date, he did not comply with my request for details on this charge. (2) Materials not included: He generated a bare-bones estimate which did not explicitly state if materials were included. I assumed that they were as this could add significant costs to project. The day of scheduled work, he texted to ask if I could receive a call from Home Depot. I then learned that I was to pay a $150 materials charge directly to the store. Later, he countered that he had verbally disclosed during our initial estimate meeting that materials were not included of which I have no recollection (he could be correct) and that Thumbtack's standard policy was for materials to be separate from estimate proposals (I did not note this policy anywhere). (3) No Taxes - Cash Deal Offered: During estimate, SOS Handyman offered me a "discount" by not charging me taxes. He requested that I pay in cash or use an online payment tool called "Zelle" that was transacted through a Mary ____, apparently his Office Manager. I was concerned about the lack of a professional company name in financial transaction (evading taxes?). When other problems developed, I contacted Mary ____ by her email address by the end of project to clarify her role and she ignored both of my email inquiries. (she responded to an earlier email so I had a valid address). (4) Work & Communication Issues: My negative neighbor / offsite property owner of adjacent house (we have tree encroachment & other historical issues) complained that Andrew / SOS Handyman trespassed and left a "mess" on his property. I forwarded the nasty email to Mary ___ Office Manager and asked her to forward to the technician. The technician then called me which I thought was a nice touch, acting non-plussed at how it happens all the time with grouchy neighbors. Four days later, the small (not big mess) pile of dirt and original damaged wood post were still lying on grouch neighbor's driveway edge. I was unable to move the wood post in concrete due to its heaviness. Therefore, I again explained the hostile nature of my relationship with this neighbor and how his threat of charging me $60/hour to clean-up alleged mess should not be taken lightly. I was very disappointed at this oversight after clearly communicating my concern with this neighbor. However, SOS Handyman did agree to make a special trip (he stated that he lives about 2 miles from me) to move the post onto my property. After project was completed, the damaged wooden post (as requested for evidence for neighbor damage), another portion of wood post with concrete base and several pieces of concrete were left on my property (partially blocking my gate access). When I asked if he intended to remove the heavy concrete pieces, he became argumentative. I was emailed the final invoice adjusted over the estimate for an undocumented additional $50 charge. I texted that I would pay the invoice timely (which I did) but would still like for the concrete pieces to be removed and for $50 charge to be substantiated. I will copy some of the final text messages from this handyman to demonstrate why his work may have been a 3 or 4 star ( I cannot judge quality of repair due to lack of carpentry expertise), his erratic behavior by end of project was very concerning. Last text messages from SOS Handyman: (1) "I was coming to your place tomorrow to pick up the pieces. As of last week you wanted me to return the top piece of the post so that you had some evidence towards your neighbors (I asked for damaged piece of wood post only. I did not think that concrete pieces would be needed as evidence). I have paid to dispose of the debris from your job at this time. And now you want me come back and pick up (why were they left behind in 1st place?) and pick more up and send it to the dump. But at this point, go piss up a tree, you miserable bitch. miserable bitch." (2) "I am happy to pick up the leftover debris, that you asked me to leave at your house, to prove to your neighbor that they have broken your fence, and it will cost you an additional $100. Let me know what you want to do." (3) *And since I do not pay the Better Business Bureau their yearly fees, they will only release what is negative about me. You have no idea what we go through. So do what you have to do, and have a great fucking day and leave me alone". (I mentioned seeing a negative BBB comment as support for not being only one to complain about lack of project follow-through). (4) "I did my job, bar and beyond your expectations and yet, you want to give me a hard time. Good luck with that." This SOS Handyman technician had a pleasant, agreeable demeanor during the estimate and start of project. Then the transition to above text messages. Accordingly, I advise to ask upfront questions about qualifications, materials charges, disposal process and charges, true nature of discounts if offers to not charge sales tax and lack of company "SOS Handyman" business name via requested (Zelle) payment method before hiring.Jun 14, 2019VerifiedS.O.S. I wont even respond to this. ALL of your neighbors have approached me and said you were crazy and to leave the job immediately. I should have listened to them. You are crazy! Have a great day!
Did a no show two days in a row. The second day he would no text back nor pick up. Very unprofessional. Took two days off of work to wait for him both days. The first day at the time he was supposed to show up for the job he told me his wife had his car keys, so we rescheduled for the following day . The second day he dis into show and did not pick up the phone.Aug 16, 2019VerifiedS.O.S. Handyman Services's reply
None of that is true, we never scheduled a date and time. We did decline the job and that is what upsets you. Thank you
Excellent communication, great work quality, and super professional. I saw mixed reviews with this business, but I am 100% certain after my own experience that these negitive reviews were due to difficult customers and not genuine work experiences. Don't let bad reviews keep you from finding a great service provider such as this business.Aug 24, 2019Verified
