Cassandra is truly untouchable with her talent!! After traveling the WORLD and making THOUSANDS of people feel beautiful and look stunning. She has a wealth of knowledge and skills that surpass's even the greatest makeup artists. She did my makeup and my best friends make up for her wedding last year. After listening to us about what we pictured in our head's, she went to work, combining her vision's with our's. We were her blank canvass and the final result blew us away! I have never felt like supermodel material, but on that day, I felt like I looked the best I had ever looked. She made me feel like a movie star! As for my best friend Jessica...Well, words cannot describe how beautiful she looked on the most important day of her life. She was timeless. When Jessica looked in the mirror after she was done, she was completely speechless with nothing but a smile spread across her face. It moved me to tears. I will never forget that moment. Not only is Cassandra wonderful at listening to her clients when they tell her their vision, but she is also a great conversationalist! So easy to talk to and truly a pleasure to be around. I would recommend her to everyone and anyone. No matter how big or small the occasion, no matter how young or old the person. She is worth every dollar!

Tracy was a delight in all the chaos of wedding planning & the wedding day itself. Being fairly particular about my own hair/makeup because of unique features, I was really wary when looking for a hair/makeup artist for my wedding day & though I was skeptical for awhile, Tracy was always very prompt in responding to my concerns/thoughts whether it was through email or texts. We had a scheduling issue initially for my bridal trial for hair/makeup, but she was able to communicate with me that everything would work out on the wedding day (seeing as I am an out-of-town bride) as I went flying out the door to make another wedding appointment that weekend; I felt 100x better after meeting in person & really going over what I wanted versus what also would be necessary to come out in photos. I am pretty sure Tracy & I have an email thread 100 emails long with me asking about various products, styles, & consultation just because the world of hair extensions & the like were so foreign to me (thank you sooo much for the recommendation!). Tracy will tell you how it is & help you achieve what you are looking for the best way she can & also understands the nature of a budget! She was SO helpful in this, on top of everything else. On the wedding day itself, Tracy brought an extra artist than what we agreed to, which was very helpful in terms of timing & really appreciated. We all had a blast getting ready with Tracy & her team & my bridesmaids adored her; she was very forthcoming about trying new styles out & how we could achieve looks by going through photos & playing around when necessary--it was very appreciated. All my bridesmaids & myself loved our hair & makeup (with suggestions given when we were unsure or hesitant about boldness, but reassured about our decisions especially based on photography); they were of all various styles, yet, all complemented each other as one cohesive group. I've never felt so beautiful after a hair/makeup session & am so satisfied with my entire experience with Tracy & her team; it really felt like a bunch of girlfriends getting ready for a special day, Tracy & her team included :) Thank you so much for trumping my fears of hiring hair/makeup artists, especially on a day that really counted! xx

August 6, 2016, is the day that I will always remember because it is the day married my best friend. I first met the Little Makeup Artist at the Greenville Convention Center 2016 Bridal Show. Let’s just say I was blown away by her work and the pictures that I viewed at the Bridal Show. I later contacted her by email and she promptly emailed me back. It took me a while to respond back to her email because I was busy with work and school, but once I did she was so pleasant to work with. I was a bride on a budget and she fully accommodated me and exceeded my expectations with her makeup artistry, pleasantness, and the smoothness of the contract process. The day of my wedding I was exhausted, but while Divya did my makeup she helped to calm me down and shared some of her on personal wedding stories with me. Her advice to me on our big day was “To enjoy every moment”. I am so glad that I listened to her advice and I literally enjoyed every moment of my wedding day. Even feeling pampered getting my makeup applied. My whole makeup up experience with Divya was perfect and I received so many compliments. The makeup applied by the Little Makeup Artist stayed on the whole night, was affordable, photographed perfect, and appeared the most natural. I would highly recommend Divya and I plan to get my makeup slayed by her again in the future.

Julia is an incredibly tallented hair stylist & makeup artist. I felt so beautiful & at ease on my wedding day, thanks to her. Julia listened to my request, provided a trial hair consultation, and did some magic to make my hair dreams come true. I gave Julia the task of creating a hairstyle that could fit under a motorcycle helmet, could be windblow & stay glamorous for hours. This girl has an eye for style & she is a great support to any bride or bridal party. Oh and did I mention she is fun, lovely, handworking, efficient & works well in a variety of settings including proms, banquets, black tie events, weddings, or any time you want to feel your best.

I've worked with Scotty Provo for years on dozens of fashion shows and photo shoots (commercial and editorial) and he is one of the most professional, dedicated and talented hairstylsts and make-up artist I know. Scotty has a wide range of ability and vision to achieve avante garde and commercial aesthetics. He is attentive and listens to his clients, and consistently delivers amazing results. He is fun and easy to work with (sometimes hard to find in an industry as stressful as fashion/beauty) and always follows through. I highly recommend Scotty Provo for color, cut and up-do hairstyling and make-up artistry.

Kristie was excellent and very professional while at the same time warm and friendly. She did my makeup for my engagement photography and it turned out great. Not only did she collaborate with me on what I wanted (rather than her idea of what it should be) but also took the time to give me some samples, explain what colors she was using, and also show me her technique when I asked. She was affordable and was able to come to my home to do my makeup, which was great too. I would highly recommend Kristie to anyone looking to get their makeup done for a special occasion.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

  • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
  • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
  • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
  • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
  • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

  • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
  • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
  • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
  • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
  • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
  • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
  • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
