After working with piano instructors who didn't understand how to teach well, I was being very meticulous in finding my next instructor. When I came across the Fleming School of Music, I knew that I had found something special. Speaking with Diana made it clear to me that she was an exceptional instructor, who could do wonders for my playing. I have been studying with her for a while now and I couldn’t be happier. So many other instructors start with the first song in a book and just move sequentially through it. Diana carefully selects repertoire or studies to target specific skills and techniques. As we move through the lesson, we have conversations about theory, technique, and musicality. I always come away with new bits of knowledge and understanding of the pieces I’m working on. Lessons are always relaxed and fun. I intend to continue studying with her for years to come. There is so much I want to learn to play on the piano and she has the knowledge and skill to get me there. If you’re serious about learning piano, I highly recommend Diana. In my opinion, you would be hard pressed to find better in the Seattle area. A nice bonus is that, every lesson, I’m playing on a beautiful grand piano.

My girls have started their private piano lessons since they were 6 years old. We have tried numerous teachers and various methods of teaching. But I start noticing the difference when we switched them to Fleming School of Music. Diana has a great way of communicating to students where kids not only understand the concept of the music but also grasp the soul of the music. This school incorporates rigorous and comprehensive music program so kids get to learn not just technique but also different aspects of the music structure. I highly recommend this school to everyone.

Diana is a wonderful teacher, mentor, and business owner of The Fleming School of Music. She has the skills & understanding to really be in tune with her piano students. Diana's staff is also great; we now have all 3 of our children enrolled in the school. For the last 4 years, we have been happily bringing our kids to their piano lessons, and we always look forward to the Winter and Spring recitals during the school year! My family has full confidence in the Fleming School of Music to give our kids the tools to be successful students of music!

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Meet with any instructor before signing up for lessons. Ask for a copy of their teaching philosophy and studio policy. Take a young student for a visit with the instructor. Understand that music lessons are fun and they should be, yet they also require a commitment to work independently at home which can be difficult at times. Make sure a child understands this commitment and is willing to practice routinely before beginning any music instruction. Try to find a teacher that offers a combination of private and group lessons and includes peer social activities in music learrning. Check references thoroughly.
