Thank you Troy for cleaning the exterior windows on my home. What a difference! Was happy to have the windows done in time for my husband's party. Very much appreciate you working around the schedule delay due to my landscape project running late. Will definitely reach out to you the next time I need my house windows cleaned. Thanks so much!

Jewlie came to see if she could help me out with my dog who needs more walks after I hurt my foot. He's a nervous sort, and he doesn't always like it when strangers pay attention to him, but he loved her. Unfortunately, he was a stronger puller than she felt comfortable with, but she let me know immediately after she decided it wouldn't be safe for them. I REALLY appreciated her honesty about it, since it could have ended badly if she'd tried to push it. If you're worried about whether someone else can handle your dog because they don't do well with strangers, I highly recommend Heart Strings. Jewlie is very kind and patient, and she puts safety for everyone first.

This is my 2nd year with Antigone and the other dog walkers. Because I am ill, my powderpuff chinese crested, Chablis, needs daily walks. I pay a monthly fee, and, each day, she received one hour of excellent exercise and fun. I recommend TPS highly. They are absolutely reliable...not once haa Chablis been left without her favorite activity. They love my dog and worry with me when she seems out of sorts. When I was hospitalized for a month, they brought Chablis to me twice a week so I could see that she was thriving in my absence. When Chablis has needed a visit to the vet, I didn't have to worry, because it was handled by her walker who was as concerned as I was. I can't imagine how I would improve the service and cheer that these people bring into my house and into the life of my little dog....This is the top of the line service. There is no better.

So very thankful for Alex and his knowledge about what was best for my dog Lucy. He gave me really workable, sound advice. Lucy is totally responding to his directions. I feel he gave us both tactics to go forward with. Given Lucy, is a high attention dog I am sure we will need him to come back!

Awesome experience. I have an older dog who is getting more aggressive with strangers and she managed to win him over and one dog that is much younger and a total sweetheart. She successfully help me while I was on vacation and my husband and daughter works long and odd hours. We did not want to leave them created for too long. Angelica came in with a key and walked the dogs. I really loved her app, that shared with me pictures and their adventures together. I am very grateful for her help.

Colleen is fabulous! She's totally reliable and my dogs love her and her assistant. The dogs get well walked and come back tired. My funny little Roxie dog won't poop on a leash, so when I won't be home until late, Colleen takes her to the back yard and lets her do her business there. I do not give my house keys to anyone else, but I totally trust her with the keys and the dogs.

Alexis is spectacular with our older, shy dog. He always wags his tail and trots right up to her front door when its time to drop him off for boarding, instead of dragging his feet as he always did with other sitters! As a bonus, Alexis sends lots of great pictures of him--way better photos than any we've taken!

I originally hired them to start providing dog walks during the week when I cant work from home. The next day after my meet and greet I had an emergency and was called out of town but since my walker had just met Corina I was hesitant to push that on her as well. The company informed me she was able to provide overnight sitting in my home for 5 days. I'm a crazy dog mom and I was a nervous wreck until my husband reminded me we could check on her via our cameras (These cameras are hidden and our sitter was unaware of them). I was pleasantly surprised at the love shown to my dog it was above and beyond what we could have hoped for. My dog usually goes on a night walk with the neighbors dog and my sitter was more than happy to walk them together to keep their routine up. She also received extra walks, played fetch in the backyard, let the neighbors dog come over, and spent extra time at the house during the day. Corina usually exhibits some form of behavioral issues when we go away furniture chewing, door scratching, etc. She didn't destroy anything last week even when the sitter was away during the day. I cant wait for Corina to start her weekly walks and I'm glad we found Paws and Plums. Thank you Ghislaine!

While visiting “Paddywhack” pet store I stumbled upon a business card for Nanny Dolittle. I’d been looking for a pet-sitter or someone who can drop in on a long work day and tend to my pack. Some time went by and we adopted a fourth rescue dog. Adjustment periods for the dogs can take some time and extra tending to, so I decided to call the Nanny. We met, reviewed each dog in depth, my expectations for her visits, their expectations and then we created a visitation schedule on the spot. She left with a key to our home and has been coming regularly for over a year. Nanny Dolittle provides loving care to my dogs that desire it most and endless ball throwing for the other two. She knows exactly what each one needs and intuitively reads them when she visits. I know this because she leaves a note at the end of her visit that describes her stay and interactions with them. What she writes is exactly what we would have done for them had we been home. In addition, we notice the difference in their energy, happiness and general well-being on the days the Nanny has visited. She is reliable, flexible, trustworthy, accommodating, gentle, caring and provides exactly what she promises. We feel lucky to have her in our pack and the dogs are always excited when we leave for work with the parting words, “The Nanny will be visiting with you today, just rest until her arrival.” Rachael Millikan Beyond Barking Animal Communication

She's been great for me! She walks dogs, sometimes feeds them. She also occassionally cares for cats. She brings the newspaper in from the driveway & the emptied trash cans from the street. She does a good job, seems to care about her work, and is very reliable.

Whit is truly a dog whisperer, but really she's talented with all animals! She considers them her "patients", and has the best of the best bed side manners. We still call on her for any questions and concerns we have with our pets, and can't wait for her to house sit for us again :) Thanks Whit for all you do.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

      • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
      • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
      • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
      • What are your different walk routes?
      • When will you pick up and drop off?
      • How will we communicate?
      • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
      • What’s your cancellation policy?
      • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
      • How and how often do I pay you?
      • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
