Overall good experience. They quoted me 5 hours of work and it took 5.5 in total. Given arrival time was between 9-10am and the workers arrived just at 10. Once my two movers arrived they quickly got to work. They were great about wrapping up furniture and the only damage I had was to the legs of my dining table. Just assumed it was scratched up against something in the truck. Prices were fair in comparison to other movers and their 26' truck was just enough space for my large 1 bedroom move.

These guys were all around amazing. They were quick with their work, fun to chat with, and very skilled movers. While looking around for movers, these were the only ones I found that didn't have at least one horror story and I can see why! Absolutely great and will definitely be calling again the next time we move.

Despite a little misunderstanding as to the number of movers coming, and the total amount of time it would take, I have to say, the guys did a great job. They really busted their asses, and got all our furniture/clothes/stacks of boxes to our new place in roughly half a day. Nothing got broken, no scuffs on the walls or floors.

From the very start, Alex was very professional. I called 5 other piano movers, and got the run around about how busy they were and unable to work around my schedule...although I gave them a 2 week window. Price was the best, updated scheduling calls, on time, and honest. I'd recommend this company to all. A+!

I was concerned about finding movers who were reliable (and safe) since my daughter is new to Seattle (and by herself) and we aren't familiar with any services there - I spoke with several other movers who just didn't seem to be on the up and up - then we found Moving Clique! Marcus and his team were very professional and responsive. We had a big problem with my daughter's U-Box shipping to Seattle from Indianapolis - it was several days late from the 'guaranteed delivery date' and when Moving Clique showed up at the appointed time U-Haul assured it would be ready, the box wasn't there - Marcus was very polite and accommodating, we scheduled a 2nd time and there was another delay. Marcus kept me calm in a very stressful situation and his flexibility was much appreciated. My daughter's items were finally delivered and in my daughter's words "these guys ROCKED" Will use Moving Clique again and recommend them very highly!

Cornelius and Mario were prepared, very professional and friendly! Moving our large upright piano down several stairs without any damage was a complicated move and they planned out the best strategy for success and it went very well. They were easy to work with and it was a good value. I would definitely use them again for a move.

My friend recommended me Prestige Movers as she booked them last year for her move. I am so glad I did a move with them, team showed up on time, without wasting time they started working, professionally handled everything including packing/unpacking and labeling the boxes. The team did an excellent job, I will definitely hire them again for my next move!

Jeno is a true moving specialist-a professional from start to finish! He arrived at the move-out site early and ready to go. We were moving a full 10' x 10' storage unit, plus additional boxes from our temporary house to a new house. Jeno was able to do the entire move in one trip, with his Tetris-like skills. He and his assistant worked quickly and efficiency, while taking utmost care in moving large items. Absolutely no nicks or scratches on any of my doors or walls after the move! Jeno has over 7 years of experience in the moving business and it shows. Working with Jeno was a pleasure and money well spent. I would definitely use Eastside Labor again.

It is white great pleasure I give this review. We reserved labor with Gentle Hand Moving Services to help us move out of our 4 bedroom home. We had rented our own UHaul truck. In the middle of transporting our items, our HAUL BREAKS DOWN, holding the movers hostage on the freeway. UHaul worked quickly to get the truck back up and running and simply couldn't. They ended up send out a replacement truck. We had to have them unload the old truck and reload the replacement. A big inconvenience to them I'm quite sure. We were panicking, but Gentle Hands stuck with us the entire time and insured our items arrived to our new home safe & sound. GREAT BIG THANK YOU to the entire Gentle Hands Team! We don't know what we had done without you.

Even though they got a bit delayed it was no problem and they worked with me to find a good time that works for us. They were professional, quick, careful and funny too. Out of the movers I've worked with in the past during this year(3 others, lots of moves) Mayar, Momo and Tim are the best.

Jay and his associate, I forgot the name, were great. I will definitely recommend and use them again next year. They were quick and efficient with moving my belongings. There were a couple blemishes but I did not expect everything to be perfect. Their supervisor called me after the move was completed and provided a discount on my next move for the minor issues. I appreciate feeling valued as a customer. The movers worked their butts off. Again, I will recommend and use again.

The movers at AmerApex Moving could not have done a better job moving our belongings over 2,000 miles away. The crew was on time, polite, very careful, and kept the move fun and in good spirits. Nothing was damaged and the price did not budge a penny. Thank you again for making my move across country stress free. I will be recommending AmerApex Moving to all my friends and family!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
