In a lot of ways, I was in limbo. Somewhat stagnant and sort of wandering. Sitting at the theoretical trailhead wanting to complete objectives, but thinking about the ways I could fail and wondering if it's just easier to live with the status quo.  The coaching sessions have helped coax me down the trail and guide me along the way until I saw my objectives and made plans for how to accomplish them. The coaching sessions have really helped me to think about and process everything going on in my life. They made me realize that when I make time for myself to meditate, I feel so much better and everything becomes clearer. What do I want to do? Where do I want to go? How do I want to live? These are some questions I've let society answer for me. I wouldn't always make time for myself and I really didn't fully understand all of the ways I could make this thing we call life better. I was so focused on the world, that I slowly lost myself, to the point where I didn't even know what my soul desired anymore… I now am actively engaged in my life and making decisions that initiate change, which I once feared.  The coaching was positive from the start and seemed like perfect timing! Although, wouldn't any day be perfect for making positive changes in your life? I was starting to go down the path of a better me, but it was slow going and the change wasn't all being received well. Thoughts of switching careers seemed like a great idea and something I wanted, yet I never went down the path. The coaching sessions have sparked the fire within me again. To do things that bring me to life and work towards healing my body inside and out. I was doing some things right, while also making negative choices such as:  being active (but regularly sacrificing sleep even during the week), eating healthy food (while continuing to eat unhealthy food), doing yoga (yet not regularly and didn't focus on the meditation during or outside of yoga), getting things accomplished (even if they're not the highest priority or I'm avoiding doing other tasks). What I loved most was literally making the connection with how everything we are, do, and think is connected. All of those pieces were delved into during the coaching and it evolved to wherever my current needs led as we went along the journey.  I have benefited from this through learning new things and being provided resources to help further the learning. I've gained a new lifestyle and positive changes that are building upon one another. I'm improving my mental health, making time for sleep a priority, already eating healthier overall, and making time to slow down and meditate or stop and allow myself to daydream. I've been rushing for so long, that I'm only now feeling like I'm starting to live!  There are many people and resources out there, ready and waiting to be utilized, but this coaching is different. It doesn't have motives other than helping you. I've realized that in order to not get overwhelmed, you have to start somewhere and continue making positive choices and changes. If feels good and empowers you to be engaged in your life and the connection to yourself.  I would recommend this to anyone who wants to make positive differences in their life, whether you think you're the best possible version of yourself or not. Knowledge is empowering and by gaining this knowledge and sharing it with others, we can make the human race and well, the universe, a better place for everyone!See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a landscaper or lawn care professional during the COVID-19 pandemic?

To set up an appointment or consultation call with a lawn care professional or landscaper during the COVID-19 pandemic, take advantage of digital technologies to avoid face-to-face exposure. When searching for lawn mowing, landscaping and lawn care companies online, ask if they’ll do a video call to assess the job and give you an estimate. You can also go over strategies for completing the job and conducting virtual payments to stay safe.

How can I find out if a landscaper or lawn care professional is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

To consult national guidelines on essential COVID-19 service providers and see whether a lawn care professional qualifies, visit a page on CISA’s website called Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19. This website contains 16 categories of critical infrastructure sectors that you can search through. However, not all jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure so you should also check your city or state’s government website.

Can I use digital payments to pay for outdoor landscaping and design, lawn mowing, tree trimming and other similar services?

Many outdoor landscaping and design, lawn mowing and tree trimming companies will likely accept some form of digital payment instead of cash or check. The COVID-19 pandemic will likely causing more businesses to adopt digital platforms like Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, Square Cash and Google Pay.

Search professionals’ online profiles to see if they list digital payment services, and ask them about their payment policies during a consultation call.

Does a landscaper or lawn care professional need to enter my home?

Because landscaping and lawn maintenance take place outdoors, it is unlikely that these professionals will need to enter your home.

To stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, practice social distancing at all times -- even with professionals doing work outside. You can minimize exposure during a consultation by using a video chat service. And when you pay, you can use a digital payment service like PayPal. Discuss strategies with any lawn mowing, landscaping, tree trimming and lawn care companies you may be considering.

Do landscapers or lawn care professionals offer remote or virtual services?

Landscapers and lawn care professionals generally do not offer remote or virtual services. But if you come across a profile that states the landscaper is offering remote services, it’s best to contact them to see what type of remote work is offered.

Typically, lawn care and landscaping professionals can perform many of their duties without coming into physical contact with clients. Message local lawn mowing, landscaping, tree trimming, and lawn care companies near you to schedule a video call and inquire about remote services.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

George was a wonderful find. I needed to have several large trees removed. At our first visit he was clear about his background as a climbing arborist and how he could help me. He was willing to give me estimates on several scenarios for the job so I could chose the one that best fit my budget. He arrived precisely on time and worked hard. He brought down the top of one tree precisely between a space between other trees, without damage to surrounding plants. I am very impressed with his transparency and work ethic. I highly recommend him to anyone needing this type of service. Well done George!!!
