- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I just completed a class to become an EPA Certified Renovator. This is part of the requirements needed for the new federal lead safety law that the EPA put into effect last year. The law is designed to keep lead dust in pre-1978 homes to a minimum during construction, demolition or repair and painting projects inside and outside of the home. To learn more about the law, please visit the EPA website and look for the new RRP lead rule.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?Whenever you're looking to hire a contractor, it is important to do some simple homework first. In Washington state, contractors who provide construction services are required to have a contractors license and provide proof of insurance and bonding. Hiring a licensed contractor helps provide protection for the customer in case of damage to the premises or someone who gets hurt on the jobsite. An unlicensed contractor does not provide this kind of protection. Check with Labor and Industries to find out the status of a contractors license.
