Introduction
I hold two degrees in violin performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, I have won multiple national and international Scottish Fiddle competitions, I'm Suzuki Certified, and have almost two decades of violin teaching experience. I believe in a holistic and personalized approach to violin where the priority is comfort and ease of playing, regardless of the repertoire which the student wishes to focus on. My curriculum is guided by the student’s creative goals and desires while careful attention is given to the practical and mechanical aspects of playing a stringed instrument. I also focus on developing rhythmic awareness and learning how to produce a beautiful tone on the violin. For my younger students I use the Suzuki approach which emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in the student's musical education. I supplement the traditional classical literature with specific fiddle tunes designed to teach them the basics while helping them explore new styles.

Brandon is always bringing his amazing knowledge, gifts, experiences and enthusiasm to every violin lesson. My kids have thrived while learning from him. Currently, my daughter is singing in Gaelic with him and loving every minute of it. Brandon is a treasure in our family and has been for 7 years.

Brandon has been teaching my son for 7 years. A good mix of Suzuki and fiddling tunes. Even kept it up during covid through virtual lessons. We are really pleased with his progress and Brandon’s constant encouragement and patience!

Brandon jumped in to teach online just as the pandemic started. It was a great weekly experience to learn new Scottish and Irish tunes from him by ear. This was very challenging for me but incredibly rewarding. He was also happy to help when I did want to play from sheet music. Brandon offers a wealth of expertise either way.

Brandon is an excellent instructor. He is classically trained violinist and hot shot fiddler. You will learn fundamentals from someone who has had the best classical training around or can take you down the path of playing traditional music by ear.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I usually schedule a trial lesson with the student (and parent, if a minor). This is not a free lesson, but will be billed at my normal rate.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Violin Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, I am Suzuki Certified through the Sato Center for Suzuki Studies. In addition I have deep experience in the Scottish Fiddling tradition, and have won multiple national and international Scottish Fiddling competitions.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started playing the violin when I was six years old, after an inspiring performance by a band called "Celtic Fiddle Festival." I started by taking Suzuki lessons, and eventually moved to a bigger city where I could take from one of the best violin teachers in the region, which led to full Scholarships to Aspen Music Festival (as well as other prestigious Music Festivals and programs, both in Classical and Fiddling worlds), and eventually my study under the tutelage of Mr. Paul Kantor at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
