We hired PeopleMovers for our 3 br move. They were very professional and fast. They currently charge $90 per hour for their handyman and a truck. In their free quote they'd estimated 5-6 hours of labor. However they were so fast that we were all done in under 4 hours- 22 miles at 10 am on a weekday! That too, when we have a huge wooden computer table with attached book rack, another huge book rack and really huge bed( none of these an be dismantled and really heavy) over the regular furniture items like sofas, loveseats, nightstands etc. not a single scratch on any thing and no house damage!

Corey was great. Came as advertised, on time, and at such short notice. Got me out of a bind while moving (I contacted him 24 hours before I needed to move!), and even met me at work to provide me with the leg of a queen bed frame that I left in the UHaul after moving. Great guy, highly recommended!

Roberto and Dustin did a great job moving our furniture. They were polite and professional. They handled our items with care and constantly communicated during the move asking questions on where to place items. Dustin has a friendly personality and makes the move seem so easy. I will definitely hire them again.

Moving Clique is awesome! I packed everything up before they got there, but they made sure everything was move-ready like shrink wrapping my bed and tables. They were accommodating of every request I had, and didn’t need me to lift a finger. They were on time as well, didn’t take a single break, and it only took 3 hours to move my one-bedroom with a LOT of furniture. This was such a time saver and I’m so happy I chose this company to work with! Moving Clique was by far the most responsive to my Thumbtack messages and calls too, which is a big reason I chose them. Plus I saw other companies charging $50 more an hour than Moving Clique charges. I moved in the morning which I highly recommend!

Enrique came to repair a leaking bathtub faucet, and to service our furnace. He was prompt, professional, and kept me informed every step of the way, including potential costs. The furnace was quickly repaired. He discovered that the faucet was leaking behind the wall, caused by a connection of PVC pipe to a copper intersection. He consulted me with the cost and choice of materials and labor, prior to purchasing, and was thorough and efficient, as well as courteous and professional. He completed the job, returning on the following day (a Sunday) to make sure the connections were properly fixed to prevent another leak, and also to replace the wall board. He is knowledgeable, and left the bathroom, bedroom wallboard, and floor clean when the repair was complete. He charged exactly as quoted, and provided receipts for the replacement parts. I highly recommend him for handyman services, and wouldn't hesitate to call him again if we need plumbing, painting/drywall, water heater, or furnace repairs.

Jeno is a true moving specialist-a professional from start to finish! He arrived at the move-out site early and ready to go. We were moving a full 10' x 10' storage unit, plus additional boxes from our temporary house to a new house. Jeno was able to do the entire move in one trip, with his Tetris-like skills. He and his assistant worked quickly and efficiency, while taking utmost care in moving large items. Absolutely no nicks or scratches on any of my doors or walls after the move! Jeno has over 7 years of experience in the moving business and it shows. Working with Jeno was a pleasure and money well spent. I would definitely use Eastside Labor again.

I'm very pleased and impressed with Bobby's service! He was the only mover who replied to my request for same day moving of an electric bed I needed to move from Mill Creek to Seattle that day. He was very flexible on the pickup time and kindly agreed to do it after 8pm so that I wouldn't have to miss work or leave work early. I was surprised when he later told me that it was his day off but he didn't mind working anyway. Additionally, he invited me to negotiate the price and wound up dropping his initial quote significantly to meet my budget. He and his brother did a great job of moving the bed. They are both very nice men. The woman in Mill Creek who sold me the bed was impressed with them, too, and wanted to hire them for her upcoming move. I highly recommend these Buff Guys, and I would not hesitate to hire them again.

These guys aren’t like your average moving cimpyany, and I have used quite a few. I did a local move, and they did not disappoint on price, and worth ethics. These guys are business majors in collage and I was very impressed at their entrepreneurial spirit. I’m glad I used them, and you wouldn’t be disappointed if you did either.

Jay and his associate, I forgot the name, were great. I will definitely recommend and use them again next year. They were quick and efficient with moving my belongings. There were a couple blemishes but I did not expect everything to be perfect. Their supervisor called me after the move was completed and provided a discount on my next move for the minor issues. I appreciate feeling valued as a customer. The movers worked their butts off. Again, I will recommend and use again.

My husband's job moved us to a VERY small town outside of Seattle. There was no Honest Movers office there, but they were the only ones we trusted. They helped us pack and put our things on the moving truck. When we came into the town, they transferred us to another trusted company in their network. We expected to get another bill later for the transfer charge. NOT! They had arranged the transfer at no extra charge. That's why we trust them so much.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

        • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
        • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
        • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
        • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
        • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
