"I've had the pleasure of working with Ken Russell and his team at Access Accounting Services since 2006. Over the years they have offered invaluable support. Not only have I relied on them for accounting, payroll and bookkeeping services, but have learned that I can turn to them for strategic business advice. Additionally, their customer service is excellent. I would recommend that any small business owner utilize their services."

I'm a tax professional down near New Orleans and have known Lily for about a year. I'm very impressed with her attitude and passion to get the right answer to tax and bookkeeping related issues. She's taken the time to complete necessary Enrolled Agent exams and tests, and knowledge requirements. She's taken the time to work with a local CPA, studying his strengths while networking with many other experts around the country to build a thorough and diverse network. I feel sure you'll be very satisfied with her attention to detail, while balancing work and family responsibilities, with clients needs and demands.

Crystal was very helpful and accurate solving issues that plagued a mutual client. She did a great job researching and documenting the issues created by management & ownership so that the difficulty of the situation was clear factually and the sensitive situation of overspending was addressed well. When she says she will get it done - it's as good as done. Need someone that can get the situation ready to pass to a CPA (like myself), call Crystal.

Chris has been a life saver. My husband and I were given her name by a friend, and it's been the best phone call we've made. She has worked with us professionally but with compassion for our situation. She has helped us through every step in our tax process and worked with the IRS on our behalf. She responds to our emails, phone calls, concerns immediately, and she has given us great advice in handling our tax issues. We now feel some relief and organization, and we are so thankful for Christine's hand in that. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a good tax accountant or CPA.

I came to this CPA firm with a mountain of ledgers I couldn't make heads and tails with and after meeting with William and his staff, I left his office feeling like my finances will finally be in order. When it came time to filing my 2016 Corporate Return, it was done in a timely manner and was done correctly unlike the prior returns from a different firm. I recommend William H. Bratton CPA highly.

About

I am certified in QuickBooks ProAdvisor. I do federal tax returns for businesses and individuals -- 1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, 941, 940, 1099 and W-2. I also do Washington State taxes, such as employment and excise, sales and use tax. Running a small business means you have a daunting number of rules and deadlines to follow for compliance. With my past experience as controller in the private industry, in addition to experience in public accounting, I understand the demands, both financial and nonfinancial, that you face. I specialize in easing you through the maze with as much or as little help as you want at affordable rates. It's so much easier (and cheaper) to get everything set up correctly from the start. To encourage beginning businesses to start off right, I will resume my $75 QuickBooks setup special (up to two hours) until tax season begins in mid-January.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire an accountant?

Accountants’ rates vary based on their education, licenses, experience, and the work for which they are being hired. An accountant may charge an hourly rate when a company or individual needs their services on a short-term basis, such as when performing an audit or requesting assistance setting up a financial database or process. Hourly rates can range as widely as $40 per hour to $300 or more per hour, depending on your geographic location and the accountant. Check out the average hourly rate for accounting services in your region.

Accountants may offer a package rate for weekly, monthly or annual services to reward ongoing customers. Many accountants offer online services where small businesses can access online accounting software and payroll assistance, and the accountant — for a monthly or other recurring fee — provides financial analysis and reporting of their numbers. For basic monthly accounting services, an accountant might charge anywhere from $75 to $500 or more, depending on what was included in a given package, the size of the client’s business, and the complexity of work requested. Nationally, full-time staff accountants earn between $40,000 and $80,000, depending on experience and other factors.

    What is an accountant?

Accountants are financial professionals who have received an accounting degree from a four-year university or college. By trade, accountants prepare, maintain and examine the financial statements of an individual, business or institution. An accountant prepares reports for tax purposes and can also perform audits of public companies. Common tasks include creating budgets, analyzing profits and losses of a company, processing payroll, preparing financial statements for company leadership, and creating and maintaining financial database systems for a company.

Accountants do not automatically have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation unless they have passed the Uniform CPA Examination and received the proper license. Regardless of whether they are CPA certified or not, accountants can assist businesses and individuals with bookkeeping and financial reporting, while CPAs are more knowledgeable in tax codes as a result of the CPA licensing examination and continuing education requirements. CPAs are also eligible to represent clients before the IRS if audit support is required, while a non-CPA accountant is not. Academic background, years in the field and professional reputation all can affect an accountant’s rates.
