I had been procrastinating on filing for bankruptcy for a long time. I have used Thumbtack before and decided to try it again. Ashley was super fast with a response and we e-mailed back and forth almost immediately. She told me to let her know if she could match other quotes I received, and was very clear on the benefits of using Start Fresh Northwest. She quoted me a great price that included a partial payment to the court, which made the payment process easier. I felt great about our interactions so I chose her company. I met with her partner Delaina, and she met me at my neighborhood Starbucks twice, once to go over the contract and the 2nd time to do the actual paper work. They are both super flexible and would have done most everything over phone and fax if that is what I wanted. The process was emotional for me, and both Ashley and Delaina were awesome. They responded to my phone calls, e-mails and texts immediately, and made me feel better when I had concerns when other people, not bankruptcy attorneys offered their 2 cents about filing for bankruptcy. We are almost done, with a hearing coming up and I'm relieved it's almost over. I am all about customer service and Fresh Start Northwest totally gets it! It has also been nice working with a company run by women. Lawyers can be intimidating and I often felt like I was talking to a friend when voicing concerns. I never felt like any question was to small or stupid to ask. Use them! You won't regret it!

Dellino Law group is amazing I hired them for my divorce after I had spent thousands on another lawyer and nothing was accomplished. Dellino Law group, gave me an initial 1 hr free consultation, I met michelle and Hugo after meeting other attorneys and they were the first ones that said what they would do for me. paid my retainer, they handled everything in a quick manor and to the point. Got my divorce settlement and at the end I had a balance remaining, how many times have you heard of that? They both know the law, smart sharp and to the point.

I requested a family law attorney for a quick consultation here on Thumbtack, and Dave replied within less than an hour, on a Friday evening, offering to meet up on the upcoming Sunday. His response was quick, but when I got to his office, our meeting took well over an hour because he wanted to know more information and be very specific with his advice to me. I appreciate it a lot in a professional and experienced attorney, and it was very nice to see how much he cares about his customers and how responsible he is in checking all the information he’s given to be as much accurate with his advice.

Attorney Steven Palmer #48823 His work quality is to go the extra mile to remind me I have no reason to fear. He is by my side watching and making sure all is well. Something I needed. Attorney Steven Palmer is very professional. I was so impressed in the court setting at the train station. He was the best and I was so proud he was my Attorney. He communicated with each person he needed to, which he communicates the entire process. Offers excellent service, you are a team not just watching. Every step I was aware and prepared. I grew in wisdom because of the financial classes which I do my best to practice wisely. It's a life lesson. Responsiveness, punctuality, and value. Attorney Steven Palmer respects you as a person of value. I never felt judged, dismissed, or stupid. He empowered me to be aware, to grow in finanical wisdom, and to realize this is a bankruptcy yes and this happens to great people. It's what you do after that counts.

Mr. Jackman was hired for a complicated assault case and from the first phone call was extremely polite and filled with heartfelt compassion. Should I ever need an attorney again, I would hire him in a heartbeat, everyone should at least talk to him. Thank you so much Mr. Jackman!

Michelle is the best attorney I have ever met! I had another run-in with the law about 10 years ago and didn't have a good experience with the lawyer I hired. Michelle is different. She really cared about me and my case and spent a lot of time talking through everything and letting me know what was going on and what my options were. Based on my old conviction, I was expecting to really have that held against me. But Michelle looked at this case by itself and saw that there were some real problems with the evidence and she ended up getting some evidence “excluded.” After that, she had the case reduced to a misdemeanor and I didn't spend a day in jail!

Andrea was extremely professional and encouraging through my divorce. She always made me feel comfortable and confident about the decisions throughout the entire process. She returned my calls and emails promptly. It was comforting to know she truly cared about my case as she always explained my options throughout the parenting plan and divorce which I truly appreciated. I would recommend Andrea to anyone looking for an attorney who genuinely cares about what your going through and will go the extra mile to make you happy.

I had fired my first attorney, it was a injury "mill" They did nothing for 2 weeks. Ann got right to work and with in days she had settled on the personal property. Great hard working, thoughtful, intelligent work, with still having empathy for the challenges and emotional needs at a crisis time for you in life, when you are not able to make decisions.

When I was injured on the job I thought my company would take care of me. I soon found that was far from the truth. When I received the letter from their insurance company stating that all my time off benefits were stopping. I was at a loss at what to do or where to turn. After my first meeting with Laurel Anderson, I knew she had my best interest at heart. They worked really hard for the last 4 1/2 years. She relieved a lot of my stress and worry. Laurel worked hard to have my lost time and wages reinstated and helped guide me through the L&I Process. No matter how big or small your injury is, your employer or claims manager may tell you that you don't need an attorney. Trust me, you'll need someone to help you. Big corporations have attorneys hiding to protect them. You should have WA Workers' Comp Law fighting for you.

Kristen was the 1st family attorney I interviewed and she was also the last. From the time we met and talked about my situation, I knew that she was the person I wanted to represent me. She is a phenomenal attorney but more importantly she truly cares for her clients. Although, I don't wish divorce on anyone, if I had to do it all over again, I would have Kristen by my side once again.

I have only been a client of theirs for approximately 2 week, they have kept me abreast of every thing that they are doing. I've had other attorneys just sweep me under the rug and not return calls, this is one firm that isn't like that!

It turns out that even though I live in Seattle, because my case is in Spokane, I need to hire a lawyer in that area. Despite this, Christine answered all of my questions even though she knew that I wasn't going to be able to hire her. She also gave me advice on how to find a good attorney in Spokane. At the end of our call I felt much better about my regretful DUI ticket.

I hired Ms Bienstock on behalf of my son and grandson. Help with unfair child support decrees and a parenting plan was needed, perhaps seeking primary custody of the then two year old. In December, 2012 our boy Elias was removed from his mother's half time care due to drug use, neglect and I believe there was physical and emotional abuse. He was in the dependency of the state, placed with me- his paternal grandmother- while things were sorted out. If we had not had help from this attorney, we probably would have lost him to the state. Kristin knows her stuff. It was a complete comfort knowing she knows who to talk to and what is most important at any time. She helped us through the emotional roller coaster. We are not used to being treated as the criminals since we are good citizens and good parents. It appeared to us that many things the state was doing were not in the best interest of Elias. He needed most of all to be in the care of his beloved Dad. Kristen made this happen. She guided us legally and personally. We are almost there! The 5 months it has taken seems like 5 eternities to us. But it almost always takes one to one and a half years. We would not be here without Kristen. Thank you, Kristen. I have no complaints. I highly recommend her for family law. She is kind, patient and very smart. So glad we have had her at our side.

I hired Matthew for a DUI charge I was facing. I was scared and nervous and did not know what to expect. After interviewing at least 10 different DUI lawyers when I decided on Matthew. Throughout the process he was beyond incredible about easing my fears. He was available any time I had questions even on Sunday evenings. In the end Matthew got me w deal that I couldn't have even imagined. He was great to work with and I would highly recommend him. He is the best DUI attorney out there. No questions about it.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
