Serghei did an amazing job installing a drop rod on my fence, into my stone pavers. He even went the extra mile to ensure the fence gate was more secure and level. Quick response and very precise work. The fence is so straight and secure now - the last windstorm really beat it up, so I’m very happy it will be able to stand through the next windstorm. :)

Nate and crew showed up on-time, and completed the project in 3 days. This included tear down and removal of old fence, installation of 80' chain link, and over 90' of cedar, including 4 gates, horse panels and one really really cool gate! Wish we could upload a pic. Tina :)

Jeff was great. He removed a wall and rebuilt the wall with a door. He's the first contractor we've ever hired, and I really appreciated his patience with us and flexibility with timing and our indecision. I also appreciated that he was very open, knowledgeable, and honest about the different building codes and laws that may come into play.

Yuri and his team did a fantastic job. I had shopped around getting quotes from multiple contractors and Kamp Construction provided the most thorough bid and best pricing. They were professional, quick and a pleasure to work with. I am having them come back in the spring to replace my deck. I highly recommend hiring Kamp Construction.

From the moment he reached out through Thumbtack to the completion of our high-difficulty level fencing project, Zach was professional, communicative, and prompt. The quality of his work top-notch, equally matched by the craftsmanship that goes in. Our lot is very challenging (borderline on dangerous) but he was able to tailor the fence structure to meet all requirements, while still looking amazing. He also built a very robust driveway gate that far exceeded my expectations. Zach kept me updated throughout the project and, despite it going a little over the initial expectation, it was still done in a rather timely manner (considering the scope). The finaly cost was on par with set expectations by Zach from the beginning, and I will say very reasonable considering the amount of custom work that went into this specific project! I'll be in touch with Zach for additional projects on our property. This was also my first experience finding an expert through Thumbtack and it has made me a believer.

Adrian and crew did an awesome job installing my fence! I added a vehicle gate (I needed larger poles for the added weight.) and he suggested using larger poles for just that one side with the gate so it doesn't look "odd". Good call on his part. Also, he routed in the gate hinges, you'd never know there's a gate unless you look closely. Adrian and crew completed the job quickly and made sure everything was cleaned up. I rate his work at "6" stars if if could.

Robert was excellent to work with and did an outstanding job. He leveled our yard, installed topsoil and fixed some pipes in the sprinkler system. He found some problems with septic pipes and fixed right away without hesitation. He was honest, efficient and stuck to his bid.

Amazing team: truly professional, knowledgeable, personable, responsive, reliable, and their work ethics is unbeatable ( they came at 9 am and worked until 5 pm with a short lunch break every day). These guys are very young and therefore are full of good positive energy and enthusiasm: always smiling, extremely polite, humble, and ready to provide a good advice on what is the best for you. I am very picky when it comes to home improvement projects; thus I highly recommend this business for the high-quality fence installation

They did a great job and was able to work around everyone schedule including mother nature :) They even agreed to set up front column post while they were doing the other job. Corresponding with Todd leading up to fence gate installation was easy and straight-forward. We made arrangements to have the install done while I was away from the site and it worked well. I'd work with Todd again. Thanks!

Jose responded to my posting quickly, came out to provide an estimate the next day, and did the job as soon as the insurance company provided the estimate. They replaced a couple of posts in my garage that were damaged by a pizza delivery driver. This seemingly minor job involved everything from bracing a major beam that runs across the front of my house to some painting and minor finish work. The work was solid and as promised. They did the job while I was at work, and when I came home, the garage was swept out and they also had swept my driveway. In every stage of the job, they were professional and courteous. I would have them do more work in a heartbeat. Thank you very much!!!

Igor and his team did an excellent job installing a new fence throughout our entire complex. They also built 9 dumpster enclosures and four entry gates. The only thing we are waiting on now is for some dry weather so they can stain. We like their work so much we have several other projects lined up for them in the coming weeks.

I've had an excellent experience with Dan. He's completed several projects including a cedar fence with gates, exterior safety lights, deck repair, built a shed and some interior work. The work inside to walls, bathroom and floors are beautiful. What I like most is that he always returns my calls, is on time and honest about his availability and cost. When he runs into a challenge he keeps me in the loop and provides options for me to make an informed decision. He's my go to guy when anything comes up and I've referred him to family and friends who have had the same experience. Kudos to Heinrich solutions!

The project was to repaint our condo for sale. Ceiling white, walls soft yellow, and white trim. The work was excellent and Ilir oversaw the process with picture updates. Our condo looks new and workmanship was excellent. I would highly recommend working on projects with Ilir. Extremely impressed.

We have worked with Chris off and on for years doing various projects for our rental properties and home I live in now. I have had him remodel kitchens, bathrooms, outside work which has included additions, fences, decks, rebuilding my garage, repaving my driveway, building a retaining wall, installing windows, doors, floors, fans, waterproofing, you name it he's done it for me including foreclosed properties. What I really like about this company is the rates are reasonable, hes a great listener and communicator and his wife helps him run the day to day operations with emails and office work so he's not so overworked. I have hired contractors in the past that have came in demoed the job, demand more money or they disappear. Chris has either asked for a deposit and paid as work has progressed, paid hourly and than paid weekly, or what have you. Even if something did interfere with being on that job daily, he always has told me via email or called and he always keeps me updated on how things are going or if there were extra costs involved, we were notified immediately. I think most contractors try to do the work, the estimates, get materials, do the office work by themselves and i think it gets them into trouble not being able to be at three places at once so they do really well. The only complaint i have is he might show up late once in awhile but I know running a company isn't easy, I am self employed as well. I highly recommend him and his company to do remodeling and repairs. Very professional and they fix any work that has been paid for or charged for free. I have never had an issue getting him back out here to fix something that I wanted done differently or organically didn't stay put. I am avaliable for personal referrals.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
