Introduction

Valerie Green, owner of Pivot Organizing, is a professional organizer offering in-person services in the Seattle area and virtual services globally. I set up organizing systems that make sense to you and help you stay organized long-term. My services include home and office organizing, downsizing and moves, and consulting on time management and leadership. HOME & OFFICE ORGANIZING: I help clients make good decisions about what to keep and then figure out organizing systems, storage solutions, and room layouts that work for their space, stuff, and behaviors. I specialize in storage systems design, small spaces, creative work, neurodivergence, paper management, divergent family members, and re-use. DOWNSIZING & MOVES: I help people come up with goals and a plan, and coach people as issues emerge. We figure out what to keep and define new organizing systems and room layouts to meet the current lifestyle. I specialize in downsizing without a deadline, small moves, and unpacking moves. TIME MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP CONSULTING: I provide consulting on topics including time and task management, prioritization, leadership, team-building, career development, and meeting facilitation. I learn about what clients are doing today, celebrate what’s working already, and identify techniques to address challenges. A BIT ABOUT ME: Originally from New York City, I now live in Seattle, Washington with my husband and rescue dogs and enjoy fitness activities, cooking, and decorating my topiary llama. I believe organizing can be a therapeutic self-care activity that really improves quality of life. I love helping people be thoughtful about what they have and why, and setting up structures and systems that help people stay organized long-term. QUALIFICATIONS: BA in Architecture from Yale; MFA in Product Design from Stanford; Professional & Board Member for the National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals (NAPO); Coursework from the Institute for Challenging Disorganization (ICD) NOTE: I require a video call with all potential clients to understand the project and see if it aligns with how I work and scheduling availability.

I’d spoken to a few organizers and Valerie at Pivot truly understood the root issues with organizing in my home. She wanted to know why I put something there and based on my logic, recommended a better option. We have a smaller house with limited storage and I was feeling frustrated. I had some of my own systems in place in the house but I couldn’t help feeling cluttered in the mind and house. Valerie came over and root caused why I put something where and gave me a better suggestion on where to put it and access. Her STRENGTH is using existing bins and materials for organizing. I love that she isn’t trying to get me to revamp my entire closet space and get new bins etc. like some other organizers like to do - because it IS easy to fall into that as it looks nice although not super sustainable. We started with the pink room I use for art and closet storage and home office but we kind of went all over the house for a holistic solution. Some before and after photos :)

Valeria is amazing. Having been with her for over six months now, we continue to be repeat clients as she helps with challenging tasks of identifying and removing clutter, while also reorganizing our home. The best thing about working with her is that none of this feels like a chore or a burden, but a really refreshing experience that leaves feeling liberated and happy with an improved (de-cluttered) space. In July, during our full basement remodel (i.e. everything from the basement moved up to the main floor) I began working with Valerie. We started with a giant project of organizing or getting rid of all items on the main floor going from front to back. In August, my mom passed away and in September, Valerie helped me go through everything in her 1 bedroom apartment to organize it either for family to have, or to donate to charity; she even met the donation company at the assisted living facility so I didn’t have to do that. We continued working on my home organizing through the fall/winter. In January the basement remodel finished up so we moved everything downstairs with plenty of room to spare as Valerie had designed where the storage items would go while we were planning upstairs. The icing on the cake was at the end when we cleared out the carport and its closets together. And at the end of each session Valerie would take away the unneeded items for donation or disposal, which I much appreciated. Unlike another organizer I worked with she didn’t see a need to purchase certain organizational equipment; she made do with what I already had on site. She was very flexible to work with and understanding about my schedule especially as I had a lot of family and work stressors going on at the time. She was very responsive - much more than I was actually! She has top shelf training and expertise in organization and design which makes her truly stand out as an organizational professional. She’s also someone that’s just a pleasure to spend time with and I really miss our sessions but unfortunately she simply has made everything at my place too tidy now!! I am grateful for my entire experience with Valerie and I sincerely hope I mess things up again soon so I can work with her again.

Valerie helped me organize some problem areas in my home. I liked the organic way she solved problems and how she used items I already had at home. She also found solutions that made sense to the way my family lives, so we can sustain the changes made. She listened to me vent without judgement and took items to donate for me. I would definitely use her services again. Clutter really makes me anxious, so I thought about hiring a professional organizer as an investment in my mental health. For me, this was a better deal than talk therapy ;)

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
If you’re interested in working together I set up a free video call for us to meet, discuss the project, and see if there’s alignment with my offerings. After that call I provide a proposal that includes the project description, scheduling, and fees. I most often work on an hourly basis, but can also provide a quote for a fixed fee.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I go through a 4-stage process as outlined on my website: Define: Discuss the project on a free intro call. Discover: Understand goals and strategize. Design: Come up with ideas and options. Deliver: Set up and finalize organizing systems.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
MFA in Product Design, Stanford University BA in Architecture, Yale University Professional Member coursework and member of National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals (NAPO)
